A friend of mine at a barn I worked at had two horses nicknamed FUBAR and FIGJAM...

Quite a pair, really.
FIGJAM?

My friends horse is called Lily.

Much less interesting.

Nicolas - Pretty good considering English isn't your native language. Generally, people say "****ed Up Beyond ALL Recognition", but what you said works too.

ShelBel - Oh boy, here it goes:

Over a month ago, I was downloading the new Service Pack 2 for WIndows XP (a mistake I wish I wouldn't have made).
Every program on my computer started lagging horribly, then locked up. So, I restarted my computer.

When it started up, I got the normal Dell boot screen, then it was just black with a white cursor, only I couldn't type anything. It was like DOS, only it wanted to be left alone!

So, I emailed Dell, and they had me try to boot in Safe Mode (Duh, it's not detecting Windows to boot into Safe Mode, ***), run diagnostics, etc.
I couldn't boot from the HD or from the CD drive when I had the Windows disc in. So, Dell ended up sending me a new HD and a new CD drive (nice of them). So, I got Windows on it.

Now here is the fun part. I thought all my problems were over. Apparently when my computer locked up, a lot more than the HD and CD drive f-ed up.

For some reason, I can't resize my screen or connect to the Internet when I tell my computer to auto-detect LAN settings. I go into the device manager, and my Video Card driver isn't installed.

I ran the Driver install disc twice. No luck. I uninstalled the driver, then reinstalled it, and still my computer isn't recognizing it.

It is like my computer just doesn't recognize ANY hardware! My touchpad works for some reason, but I am sure I will run into other problems as well.

Any bright ideas? :)

I had a Windows Reinstallation/Repair disc that came with my computer.

I should hope so.

I did.

The HD was clean when I got it. I had to partition it and install Windows from scratch, if that is what you mean by fresh.

Foxfire 11-30-2004 02:39 PM

I have 800 USD on me.

However, at this point, I wish it were £800.

Was there a supplemental drivers disk, I have ran across dells with an extra drivers disk. That might need installed also. Could be your main board was the problem all along. When there is a lot of intermediate hardware issues it is usually your main board.

Yes, I said that in my original post. I installed the drivers disc once. It said that it still wasn't installed, so I did it again. Still nothing.

Dell recommended that I go into Safe Mode, uninstall the driver, then reinstall. Still, no worky. :-(

It sucks at $3.75 a Drink. We both drink captain & coke. Plus $6 cover two nights, because of the bands. But you only live once. Plus taking a drunk wife home can have advantages. :naughty:
