I'm not :(

pep 03-05-2006 10:38 PM

ive never paid much attention to AFJA so for me MoP > AJFA, RTL>AJFA and RTL>MoP just because i think kirks solos are better than on MoP.

Nepenthe 03-05-2006 10:41 PM
I've said this, but I'll say it again. But AJFA has an awsome guitar tone :)

Its probably AJFA > MOP for me but I wasnt too sure so i put it as AJFA = MoP
AJFA guitar tone=scoop'd to the max

Apocalyptic Raids 03-05-2006 10:43 PM

The production on AJFA just sucks in general really.

Nepenthe 03-05-2006 10:47 PM
The production on AJFA just sucks in general really.
Yes it does, very thin. It lacks that fullness that you hear on all of their other recordings (excluding KEA, but that doesn't really affect the cd at all), or any other band's recordings for that matter.

I'm Charming 03-05-2006 10:59 PM
Wow, arguing over opinions now...
Who'd ever think that would happen? :p

AJFA is the best from metallica. One, To Live Is To Die and Harvester Of Sorrow are the best on it.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-05-2006 11:01 PM

Blackened is easily the best thing Metallica have ever done.

Huber 03-05-2006 11:18 PM

After thinking about all the outstanding tracks on RTL MoP and AJFA, it's so hard to pick just one.

Meh, I'd take battery or TLITD over blackened. You can really hear lack of bass there. And during chorus you can hear some mixed in bass that just booms randomly.

I don't have time to watch it. Can someone tell me what solos they are?

Bazarov 03-06-2006 01:57 AM

It kept freezing on me. Friedman was doing the solo for Lucretia.

Lionheart1827 03-06-2006 02:22 AM

RTL is my favorite album.

There is just something about that album. I dont know if its the progressiveness of some of the songs, especially Trapped Under Ice and RTL, the awesome guitar tone(which Hetfield has said he was never able to get the RTL tone ever again after their gear was stolen), or what.

It's just an amazing album.:thumb:

RTL>MOP>AJFA>KEA>TBA>Garage Inc>S&M>Load>ReLoad>St. Anger

My first ever concert was S&M New York. Some of the BEST hours of my life. I have an audio bootleg. :D

If they remasterd ajfa Id have more favs on that record. But I want to hear the bass first. Yea, battery is better. So is damage. and Dis heroes...

MRDuCran 03-06-2006 06:43 AM

Have you people seen the live video for Dyers Eve Yet?

Hodgy1986 03-06-2006 07:15 AM

I think that was because they stopped using Marshalls after RTL.

hetfieldfan86 03-06-2006 10:40 AM

Woaa, woaa hold on!...Kirk and James never completely stopped using Marshalls. If u read interviews and stuff and watch the docs like me, u'd know that Kirk and James have used Marshall on and off since '81. The thing about amps is that they can be very particualr and tweakable...and it all depends on the exact tubes, cables everything. On St Anger for instance James was using Mesa, Vox and Marshall. Live these days Kirk uses a Mesa Dual Recto, i believe a Marshall JCM900, and possibly old Ampeg.

hetfieldfan86 03-06-2006 10:44 AM

Heres somethin to ponder maybe help me out with. Everyone knows that Zakk is wayy better in everyway than Kirk....plays and writes better stuff...they both use Marshall, EMG-81s and Les Pauls...(from time to time). However, i think Kirk has wayyy more clarity and definition live - always has. Now is this cause of Kirk's style of picking or because of the simple fact that Zakk overdrives the hell out of his tone with his pedal, 325W speakers, modded amps and too many cabs? I think Its prolly the latter of my two theories....ROCK ON!!!!

Jev 03-06-2006 10:55 AM

I don't really pay attention to interviews. I just thought they ditched marshalls.

and I'm not really a fan of Zakk Wylde.

hetfieldfan86 03-06-2006 11:03 AM

Ok..just wondering...but tell me this - what kinda amps do play? I'm an up an comer who needs a good metal amp....I love Marshall AVT series..cause there real classic sounding like Maiden kinda gain..but i have zakks pedal so i can get more out of it...what amps do u like for straight up metal?

2muchket! 03-06-2006 11:33 AM

RTL is my fav 'Tallica album with KEA a close second

I play an old Marshall Valvestate. I got it for free. Sounds pretty awesome.

I'm don't really know about amps much but there's some guys in the guitar forum who know basically everything about amps.

Father_Jack 03-06-2006 11:45 AM

I haven't played that many amps. My friends DSL50 with OD in front has a pretty nice metal tone. For even heavier stuff theres the Peavey Models like the Triple XXX and the 5150II/6505+. Past that you can get like Mesa's, Diezels, Kranks, and Engl amps. They are all pretty swell for the metal tones.

Jev 03-06-2006 03:23 PM

I never really thought Blackened was all that great.

Stormrider 03-06-2006 03:28 PM

I love Balckened. Except its at such a low volume...It gets anoying,

Father_Jack 03-06-2006 03:36 PM

I like blackened except for the breakdown. And the solo sucks as well.

and winter it will send...

Jev 03-06-2006 03:40 PM

The intro's awesome though.

Stormrider 03-06-2006 03:45 PM

Yes definitely. The chours is cool too.

And I like the solo..

Jev 03-06-2006 03:47 PM

I guess it's just the production that bothers me. If it sounded like MOP I would've loved it I guess.

MRDuCran 03-06-2006 03:49 PM

Blackened is one of my favourite Metallica songs, along with Battery and Creeping Death.

Demon_King 03-06-2006 08:35 PM

Personally I feel that Ride the Lightning was an album to get drunk to.

Kirk uses Marshall and James rarely uses Marshall and last he used them was in the past around Master of Puppets. James has used a mix of Marshall and Mesa Mark IIC from RTL to AJFA then went all Mesa and used the modded Marshall he used on KEA on Load and ReLoad. The only time James has used Peavey was on St Anger in the prestudio

RoCKinG STANTON 03-06-2006 08:38 PM

S&M... I have it. It's an interesting twist to some of their great songs. I really like it, although I think they could have used a couple better songs...

Demon_King 03-06-2006 09:58 PM

I thought the DVD of S&M was funny because it showed how little theory James knows about music.

PepsiMetal 03-06-2006 10:32 PM

What do you mean Demon_King? He doesn't know much theory but how did the video show that? I haven't seen S&M that's why I'm asking.
