I honestly have to say I'm not sure if I have ever heard ELO, I probably have because I listen to quite a lot of radio...but I don't recall any songs.
You know that song "Don't Bring Me Down"? That's them.

robo2448 06-30-2005 07:26 PM

I haven't heard any ELO, just Jeff Lynne's stuff with Traveling Wilburies. I need to get some of their stuff though.

thickasabrick 06-30-2005 07:27 PM

Well **** if one of the members was in the Travelling Wilburies (I always wondered what the hell Jeff Lynne did so great to be included in the Travelling Wilburies) I'd better listen to them.

Johnny B. Good 06-30-2005 07:30 PM

ELO is fairly decent, and jeff lynne was mostly known for his recording techiniques

Glitterati 06-30-2005 07:32 PM
Sure looks that way, doesn't it? That crazy kid's always throwing curveballs...

On another note I got Sly & The Family Stone-There's a Riot Goin' On, Woodstock DVD, and the Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD.
The Woodstock DVD owns, if it's the same that I have. Gotta love Hendrix's part

I'm pretty sure he was in ELO. I can't say that I've ever heard ELO though, so might want to check that with someone who has actually heard them.

Oh, Schyma, you were asking about why everyone is making a fuss about Mr. Blue Sky.

One word: Melody.

The melody on that song is genius.

jpj 06-30-2005 08:04 PM

 Livewired, you're #1 on my compatability list on RYM!

I don't care how good a melody is if it doesn't add up to be good music it isn't a good song. It sounds like the Beatles trenched in cheesy orchestrated sounds and voices. I just don't like it.
That reminds me that I need to update my RYM account.
What are the benefits of RYM? Do you just post your albums and people tell you whether they are good or not?

White_heat 06-30-2005 10:55 PM

You just post your albums and rate them i think.

magicbus 06-30-2005 11:01 PM

Livewired is #2 on my RYM compatibility

Modestbob is #22. Didn't check any others.

Leper 06-30-2005 11:15 PM

how's everybody doing tonight?

Mxers on mine are Livewired-1, keep on phishin'-2, Badmoon-6, Modestbob-13, Medopalis-21, Woodstock-22, DavidCrosby-35(I think this is BillCosby or whatever his name is), and DistantEchoes-37.

So, Santana's performance on Woodstock is pretty cool. The percussion is awesome.

White_heat 07-01-2005 12:30 AM

Thats the best thing about Santana, in the old days that percussion is what really made him what he was. It really adds to the jam and the groove.

Well who doesn't love that Latin jazz beat? It gets stuck in your head pretty quick.

JonG 07-01-2005 12:40 AM

I just learned Black Magic Woman today. Great song, just don't have his tone :(

play4rock 07-01-2005 12:48 AM

you know what song is great, led zeppelin-ramble on. its just got a sweet beat that rocks and then gets more rockish in the chorus but not to rockish and thats the great thing about led zeppelin that they can do great things like that.

JonG 07-01-2005 12:52 AM

JPJ's intro with the bass is great. My favorite little riff there.

4 digit posts now :O

Thought it should be in this thread <3

Glitterati 07-01-2005 12:55 AM

Black Magic Woman is a great song.

Thanks to ArrestThisMan, I'm getting more into Black Sabbath.

play4rock 07-01-2005 12:58 AM

one reason i love led zeppelin is because for me they like never get old like i could spend all day just listening to led zeppelin and it wouldn't get old because all thier songs are different and they dont all have the same rythum and beat.

play4rock 07-01-2005 12:59 AM

yeah sabbath ROCKS!!!

JonG 07-01-2005 01:00 AM

I got sick of Zeppelin after awhile, don't really listen to them anymore.

There is an official Led Zeppelin thread where you can preach to the society of MX about the glorious musical creations (and "covers") of this small group of people that go by the name Led Zeppelin

Any one like UFO?

This is my last day on MX for about a month I think, it was nice being present in this o-so interesting never ending discussion about the glory of classic rock, and drugs...

MalcolmYoungRock 07-01-2005 01:10 AM

Check out my SRV thread, damn you.

clown_phobia 07-01-2005 02:16 AM

Glitterati 07-01-2005 02:21 AM

Bah, I voted Paul.

Forgot to upload some Sabbath for you.

Did you ever get the songs I suggested?

ATM 07-01-2005 09:30 AM

I heard it wasn't that great.

I was thinking about seeing that new zombie movie, is it any good?

magicbus 07-01-2005 09:55 AM

I thought War of the Worlds was pretty good. I liked it better than Land of the Dead.

robo2448 07-01-2005 09:56 AM

I heard War of the Worlds wasn't very good, but haven't seen it. I like The Live At Leeds Tommy slightly better, but they are both amazing. Santana's rythm section is awesome from what I've heard. Up On Cripple Creek is an awesome song. All caught up.

I was listening to the Band this morning and who do you guys think is a better organist, the guy from the band, I think his name is Garth Hudson, or Ray Manzarek from the Doors?

I think the guy from the band is better. I forget his name though, it's either Richard Manuel or Garth Hudson. One of them is organ, one piano but I always get them confused.

magicbus 07-01-2005 09:58 AM

I like Richard Manuel better than Ray Manzarek, but I like Manzarek better than Garth Hudson. I don't think he really did much for the sound, but when he did have large parts in the songs it was cool. Manuel's pianowork was very neccessary for each song, and I love his voice.

robo2448 07-01-2005 10:06 AM

I think I made my post pretty confusing, I'm just comparing the 2 organists, Hudson and Manzarek. I just wasn't sure whether Manuel or Hudson played organ. The Genetic Method on Rock of Ages is awesome.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-01-2005 10:17 AM

The War of the Worlds sucks ***.
