Moses how much do you know theory wise?

you totally didnt get it then

What was I supposed to get? I thought it was pretty straight foward.

5/4 is easy though once you get it right a few times. Usually the accents are on 3 and 5. Since they are syncopated weird between the bass and guitar it might be different though.
Moses how much do you know theory wise?
Quite a bit. I've been playing classical piano since 11 and started playing Jazz a year and a half ago.

Toaster 04-27-2006 02:52 PM
the only hard thing is getting used to the 5/4. Its really not that HARD so much as throwing off my down beats. Its good practice. I should have been doing this kind of stuff months ago

Yeah, it's a mean joke too.

Esoteric_Creator 04-27-2006 02:55 PM

The only song I always skip is "Die Eier Von Satan"..

1. It's a receipe about cookies, or eggs, or something...I think..
2. I don't know German..
3. Hitler is annoying, and so is the dude reciting the receipe..
4. I like the message of how you can read a phonebook in an authoritive way, and get people to follow you...but I don't want an example..

hmm.. It doesn't quite seem like it but I'm not gonna argue.

Strictly translated Die Eier Von Satan means the egg from satan, so I think its a recepe for deviled eggs

kurrpt 04-27-2006 02:57 PM

yea, i try to stay away from arguements nowadays online. It just winds up as me blocking people in the long run

edit : actually gtrguy. Ive seen the translation. Its for like hash/weed brownies, but with NO EGGS

apparently un kiner eir means "and no eggs"

I'm Charming 04-27-2006 03:46 PM

I'm officially back into Tool.

I listened to Aneima all the way through and remembed why I loved it so much.

I only like a couple songs off ten thousand days.

I'm looking forward to that Undertow on the dailyupload

Lateralus isn't my fav but has some good tunes.

RideTheSpiral 04-27-2006 04:45 PM

Triad is a bad bad boring song.

ShadowMan 04-27-2006 04:59 PM
anyone else learning Vicarious on the guitar?
Yup. Finally getting that triplet down.

randomthought9 04-27-2006 05:09 PM

I can't play Tool songs, they use all these weird time signatures that I don't know how to count, I'll just stick to 4/4.

I'm Charming 04-27-2006 05:21 PM
Yup. Finally getting that triplet down.
Where's the tab for Vicarious?

All they are doing is playing in 10/8 and accenting different notes. Trust me I know my rhythm, they weren't doing anything hard or interesting. Of course I'm probably just spoiled by listening to Chick Corea all the time, now that's some interesting stuff.

Their melodies are pretty much the same as they've always been and that "Meshuggah" part was the simplest part of the song. I don't see what's impressive at all.

I agree. I still listen to it when I'm playing the full album, but it really could have been so much better.

How do you know its in 10/8? It could very easily be in 10/4 with a fast tempo.

Moses 04-27-2006 05:55 PM

Because a conductor wouldn't conduct it that way, that's how you determine it. It's also not in 5/4 because of the accents.

You don't conduct differently because of what type note gets the beat. Do you know the difference between simple and compound time?

Futuro 04-27-2006 06:47 PM

Ill stick to counting it in 4/4.

I don't, please explain.

Deconstruction 04-27-2006 06:51 PM

Bah, Tool loves time sig changes..IT kinda bugs me.
In a good way though.

Futuro 04-27-2006 06:56 PM
You don't conduct differently because of what type note gets the beat.
Correct. As in a compound duple and simple triple are the same.

gmoneyguy 04-27-2006 07:03 PM
Correct. As in a compound duple and simple triple are the same.
not really, in duple compound there are only two beats but they are divided into three parts while simple tripl has three beats divide into two. for example 6/8 is duple compund the dotted quarter gets the beat. When you see three eighth notew in row in the beginning of a measure it you count it one-la-le. In 3/8 the eighth note gets the beat. and is counted one-te two-te three-te when you see a measure. The thing about any time signature in 3 is it can be read in compund or simple but the is up to the composer.

Edit: I'm going out for dinner, so I may not reply for a while.

Futuro 04-27-2006 07:07 PM

Oh....Whatever... heh...

Well I always thought 5/4 and 10/8 were the same.
Same with 12/8 and 6/4.

*sigh* Theory, I can play in any time signature, I just don't care enough to learn about it.

They way you tell the difference between simple and compound is if you can divide the top number by 3 its compund, and the number you get after dividing the top number is how many beats are in the measure. in 12/8 there are 4 beats and 6/4 there are 2 beats.

Time for dinner later guys.

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-27-2006 07:13 PM

Cobham is the most impressive drummer I've ever heard, I just love Tim Alexander's creativity and listenability. So groovy.

Killtacular 04-27-2006 07:15 PM

Haha, wrong thread.

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-27-2006 07:16 PM

Ahahaha. Mind if I keep this here for amusement? Hahahahahahaah!

Killtacular 04-27-2006 07:24 PM

Please do. It'll amuse the gods.
