2012 looks like a shit film tho.

Meatplow 01-08-2009 12:10 AM

according to chu - for the past 26,000 years the Earth has had a drag on it's rotation, meaning it has kind of spun in a random way, this randomness will be fixed as well. on dec 31st 2012 our solar system will actually be suspended for 1 second, i.e. we won't be moving, that 1 second will send a tidal wave across our solar system. As we go from 220km/s to 0 in no time, and then back to 220km/s in the same non-existant time. Thinking about the effect of gravity.... it's going to spring and break everything.

big80smullet 01-08-2009 12:26 AM

Sounds heavy.

gaslight 01-08-2009 12:27 AM

Sounds like a Matt Riley novel.

Put me on the not worried list.

Chu 01-08-2009 12:28 AM

You missed the most important part.

The sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way during this period.

big80smullet 01-08-2009 12:30 AM

Seeing as the milky way is a circle isnt the sun always aligned with it?

gaslight 01-08-2009 12:39 AM

Why is that significant Chu, hasn't it probably done that before? There are probably lots of stars aligned with the centre of the Milky Way at one time or another.

badtaste 01-08-2009 12:45 AM

I bet all this information coincides with Chu's new cult.

Most probably, there are BILLIONS of stars in our galaxy, I just thought it was kinda cool (also, the fix in the 26,000 year Earth's wobble is kind of interesting).

Edit: Evan, the milky way is a spiral galaxy, it's essentially planar (i.e. flat), so no, we don't always line up with the center.

big80smullet 01-08-2009 01:08 AM

well in order for there to be alignment there needs to be a third party or a constrainment. ie aligned with X or aligned on X plane

Meatplow 01-08-2009 01:12 AM

theres gotta be some kind of tipping point of knowledge where all predictions regarding this sort of thing become chaotic

gaslight 01-08-2009 01:41 AM

You'll have to go into more detail about the wobble Chu, I don't see how it could result in the solar system becoming suspended.

Chu 01-08-2009 01:55 AM

No, Metaplow didn't explain the later part of that chat (I guess he posted this before we finished), that part (about the solar system collapsing) is my dream.

But yeah, December 31st 2012, our Sun will align with the center of the Milky Way, and the Earth's wobble will be fixed (I wonder for how long though, it seems to reoccur every 26,000 years).

gaslight 01-08-2009 02:10 AM

The wobble is fixed by aligment with the centre of the Milky Way, or that's a coincidence?

Aaron 01-08-2009 02:26 AM

I'd lol so hard if the sun went supernova at that exact moment. Well, if I were alive I'd lol.

great show, i love bottom as well

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-08-2009 02:42 AM

i don't need to hear you scientific mumbo jumbo, it doesn't make sense to me because i'm amish.

Aaron 01-08-2009 03:28 AM

lol

blueyxd 01-08-2009 03:35 AM

So physics just stops to adjust itself... right

Just like a having a drink break during a seige

oh, and the real truth
The wobble is fixed by aligment with the centre of the Milky Way, or that's a coincidence?
I assume it's just a coincidence really...

Our solar system is traveling at about 220km/s (the further out from the centre, the slower the orbital spin), which equates to roughly 240 million years if I recall, which means our solar system has done 22 orbital spins?

I don't know..

big80smullet 01-08-2009 05:34 AM
The wobble is fixed by aligment with the centre of the Milky Way, or that's a coincidence?
i think its a gravity thing.

Aaron 01-08-2009 05:38 AM

I like gravity. Keeps my steak on my plate.

big80smullet 01-08-2009 05:44 AM

keeps mah nutz low

Meatplow 01-08-2009 06:46 AM

snaky

gaslight 01-08-2009 06:49 AM

I'm still not sold on why this wobble fix should worry me. If you ask me, the real trouble is brewing back east.

Aaron 01-08-2009 06:55 AM

Yeah. If the world is wobbling then I don't have to exercise, it does it for me.

Meatplow 01-08-2009 07:02 AM

china?
