from the punks vs reagan thread.
Not just punks hated him. Lot's of people did. And punk back then had liberal politics, in general. Perhaps if for no other reason then if you were anti establishment, you were anti Repubublican. Just like today. The Clash were straight out Communist in there political leanings and made no bones about it. And if you were a punk back then, just as now, why on earth would you support that dickhead Reagan any more then you want to support dickhead Bush? They go hand in hand.
your thoughts?

Joe was a reddie!

I don't see any Communist....stuff in their lyrics. I see some passionate political lyrics, but nothing that could be conscrued (sp?) as Communist.

Forest_Fire 06-15-2005 09:01 PM

I don't think they meant evil Soviet communism, but communism as in the idea that everybody is equal

Coma_Girl 06-15-2005 09:07 PM

dustin is back!:D
socialism, yeah. communism, not really. Except that Joe said he's been influenced a lot by Karl Marx. And I think he said in Westway that at the beginning they had a Stalinist attitude.oh well...

CombatRock 06-15-2005 09:10 PM

yea, i think clash was more socialist than communist, but like dustin said, they clash belived in the theory of communist.

/off topic but i got streetcore :thumb:

Coma_Girl 06-15-2005 09:11 PM

Yea, in an interview I saw Joe said something like "If Karl Marx can't change the world, how can 4 guitarists from London?"

Conan liked the Clash? :thumb:

My favorite song on Streetcore is either... Get Down Moses, or maybe Silver and Gold.

sketchyjoe 06-16-2005 09:25 AM

I like Coma Girl just because of the Dylan reference.

guns_of_brixton 06-16-2005 09:42 AM

I never noticed that, so I'm going to try and find it.

And has anyone listened to Junco Partner yet??

sketchyjoe 06-16-2005 09:50 AM

And then the nineteenth hour was falling upon desolation row

and this is a clash thread?

i listend to 30 seconds of Junco Partner and liked it, i didnt get to listen to the whole thing, it only had clips of it. its the song from the beginning of essential clash dvd right?

white_riot 06-16-2005 01:44 PM

I have only heard a live version of Junco Partner.

CombatRock 06-16-2005 01:47 PM

i dont know if i said it but when i went to this record store, were i got my Meskie cd, they had lots of Clash vinyl, GEER, Sandinista, Story of the Clash ect.. but they were all over $30, i was going to get Sandinista but it was $45, i dont think joe would want his records sold for $45!

white_riot 06-16-2005 01:52 PM

It was $45.00. Thats not very cheap. At this one store Sandinista is $27.00 on C.D. I agree Joe definetly would not stand for that.

CombatRock 06-16-2005 02:12 PM

yea, i see Sandinista being more expensive than others, its 2 cds, and on vinyl its 3. but $45 is rideculous (sp)

sketchyjoe 06-16-2005 06:08 PM

The Clash agreed not to take any royalties for the album so it could be sold at the normal price.

I don't like Arms Aloft that much. My favorite is Get Down Moses and Ramshacle Day Parade and I think Burning Streets.
Page 4
$45 for one album? I love The Clash more than oxygen, but that's ridiculous.

Forest_Fire 06-16-2005 07:43 PM

It's 36 songs.

But still.... dayum

CombatRock 06-16-2005 07:44 PM

oxygen>clash>water.

i think im going to ask for Sandinista on vinyl for christmas. that way i dont have to buy it.

Coma_Girl 06-16-2005 07:44 PM

Yeah, 45$ is way too expensive. They wouldn't agree with this price at all. I saw Sandinista! for 22$ CAN here.

guns_of_brixton 06-16-2005 08:24 PM
listend to 30 seconds of Junco Partner and liked it, i didnt get to listen to the whole thing, it only had clips of it. its the song from the beginning of essential clash dvd right?
They play a few different songs at the beginning of the dvd, and Junco is one of them.

And I think at some point (maybe after Joe died) that they started selling the records at normal price. I would pay $24 for Sandinista (thats how much it is at Best Buy). Think about it: it might sound like alot, but 36 songs for $24 is better than 10 songs for $12 (GEER).

But I think I the clash had thir way they would give their music away for free. They just wanted people to hear it.

Coma_Girl 06-16-2005 08:27 PM

that's something I always liked about them...They werent doing it for the money, they really had something to say. They deserve respect from everybody for what they did for LC and Sandinista
They did, they just wanted to get their music out there.

It's a plug-in for your media player (Winamp, iTunes etc) that logs everything you listen to.

guns_of_brixton 06-16-2005 09:00 PM

Oh, ok. I'll be on there by Tuesday.

According to that, the Meskies did Pressure Drop. Sweet.

EDIT: the album-that-must-not-be-named was released in the same year as my postcount; 1985
