I don't think he does, he just hates the newer stuff

Cain 10-18-2005 03:24 PM

6DOIT>All.

Awake comes in second, because compositionally it's probably the most conservative, instrumental-wise, and also tightest. But 6DOIT is just damn impressive in every possible way.

I never listen to Dream Theater anymore, though, because I think LaBrie is a terrible singer.
I don't think he does, he just hates the newer stuff
This is my basic position as well.

Yet you rate 6DOIT as their best album

heavy metal kid 10-18-2005 03:34 PM

what album is WDADU?

Cain 10-18-2005 03:36 PM
Yet you rate 6DOIT as their best album
I rate Train of Thought and Octavarium as among their worst. So that little smiley was a little unneccesary, wouldn't you say?

heavy metal kid: When Dreams and Day Unite = WDADU
Yet you rate 6DOIT as their best album
i think its their best too:

6DOIT
I&W
Awake
SFAM
WDADU
ToT
FII / Octavarium

is my list. i dont consider ACoS as an album

scenesfromatheater 10-18-2005 03:36 PM

When Dream and Day Unite, its back when they had a different vocalist before Labrie...not a very good album but its got its moments

Too bad, the main song kick ass

true, but the rest is just live covers. i dont call that an 'album'

wah? TOT is awsome, not their usual stuff but its a lot better WDADU IMO, ah well, each is own

nowitzki 10-18-2005 03:39 PM
When Dream and Day Unite, its back when they had a different vocalist before Labrie...not a very good album but its got its moments
I think it's a good album, ruined by poor production and a annoying vocalist.
I rate Train of Thought and Octavarium as among their worst. So that little smiley was a little unneccesary, wouldn't you say?
Fine then, maybe a  would have been more appropriate.

yep, its all opinion :thumb:

Cain 10-18-2005 03:41 PM

ToT's only decent songs are Vacant, and This Dying Soul. Honor thy Father is all right also. The record is remarkably soulless, lacking in harmonic sophistication or tone, and certainly cannot be remotely defined as a progressive album, however.

This Dying Soul is, even then, a little iffy, being a sequel to "The Glass Prison," which was already the best heavy song they ever did. Stealing riffs, lyrics, and subject matter from it doesn't make "This Dying Soul" great though.

nowitzki 10-18-2005 03:46 PM

I personally prefer TDS to TGP (but both are awesome, and much better than The Root of All Evil).
I think ToT is excellent, and it's the album that first got me into DT.
In The Name Of God is one of DT's most under rated songs. The live version at the Budokan is superb.

Cain 10-18-2005 03:47 PM

What's so great about "In the Name of God?" I thought it had one of the most terrible vocal melodies in DT history.

I am open to other perspectives, however, that's just my opinion.

scenesfromatheater 10-18-2005 03:49 PM

I agree, its such an awsome album. ITNOG is one of my favourite DT songs and it is one of the best performances by DT on Budokan I've seen. The keyboard and guitar solo in ITNOG are just intense.

Lord Abortion 10-18-2005 03:52 PM

I really like ToT, and don't care if it's not "progressive". The songs are brilliant.

This dying soul, in the name of god, as I am and endless sacrifice are the best on that IMO, it's my second favourite DT album...

scenesfromatheater 10-18-2005 03:54 PM

Agreed.....by me that is...

Kirk's Puppet 10-19-2005 04:26 AM

I'll only list the DT albums I have.

I&W = SFaM > 6DoIT > ToT > Ovtavarium

And I really freaking <3 Octavarium too :thumb:

Don't, it's a trick

Triangle 10-19-2005 10:25 AM

I love 8V and believe that 6D is their best piece of work.

Anyways, who wants Raise The Knife (Live & Studio versions)? It's a track that didn't make it onto Falling Into Infinity. Post your emails and I'll get it right to you. :)

scenesfromatheater 10-19-2005 10:27 AM

Can't be that good if it didnt even make it onto FII, ahhh well....ledzeppelin_blackdog@hotmail.com

olliethegreat_6 @hotmail.co.uk then, please

Triangle 10-19-2005 01:11 PM

Ha, yeah that's what I was thinking but it's not that bad. Have you heard the extended versions of some of the bad tracks from FII? They're actually pretty good.

I'm sorry I don't. I may upload the extended versions of Burning My Soul, which is awesome, You Not Me and Take Away My Pain. All feature awesome instrumental parts and the end of BMS is Hell Kitchen. It's crazy but great.

red barchetta 10-19-2005 02:19 PM

i love Hell's Kitchen... my favourite DT instrumental

scenesfromatheater 10-19-2005 02:22 PM

I only like the bit they play in the instrumedley, which isn't very much.

Jev 10-19-2005 02:22 PM

I take it Triangle = Jack Bellmont? Cheers.

I would like to request those songs which didn't make it onto the albums; theskyisfallin04@gmail.com

Was listening to Take the Time earlier, that first synth solo is completly bad ass.

Take The Time is badass.

I'll upload the extended stuff tomorrow after school.

scenesfromatheater 10-19-2005 02:31 PM

I'm sad to say that the intro reminded me of The Darkness....it's an OK song...nothing special cause Derick's on it

Thanks anyway Triangle

Yeah it isn't the greatest. I'm only sending it out because my mate uploaded it for me and I thought some people may like it.

scenesfromatheater 10-19-2005 02:39 PM

I don't really like it that much at all, I don't like FII so that's probably why.
