OK go.

RiceMonster 01-22-2008 10:06 PM

It's a band formed by a few members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Not as good IMO, but still enjoyable.

Txus 01-22-2008 10:09 PM

I don't like Efrim's voice that much, I prefer them instrumental :(

RiceMonster 01-23-2008 12:09 AM

Yeah, I find I don't like his vocals that much either. That's the big hold back I have with them. Sometimes his vocals sound alright, but other times I can't listen.

Hit me up with that too, if you could.

anemiate AT yahoo.com

Also, recommend me post rock gice. I know most of the major ones.

The Door Mouse 01-23-2008 04:03 PM

Caspian.

Kage 01-23-2008 04:03 PM

Do yourself a favor and just stop listening to post rock right now.

Shattered_Future 01-23-2008 04:05 PM

Rofl, Caspian isn't terrible. They're not special, but they're not terrible.

No, I want mega obscure **** that only Kage would know about.

Kage 01-23-2008 04:06 PM

This new Zion is killer.

Apocalypticon 01-23-2008 04:11 PM

Agreed. Listening to it right now. I really like where Zion have been going since "This Is Our Punk Rock". Blindblindblind is probably the best track.

Kage 01-23-2008 04:13 PM

I'm only on 1,000,000 Died, but I'm loving it. This is crazy good.

Thank god they're making interesting music. I could forgo any more Godspeed albums if this is what Efrim is doing.

Apocalypticon 01-23-2008 04:20 PM

Its nice to see that Efrim has recovered from his fear of guitars and drums.

The 12 5 second tracks are kinda silly though.

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 04:24 PM

new ASMZ is definitely their worst by a very large margin.

Kage 01-23-2008 04:25 PM

No, it's their best by far.

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 04:26 PM

if you're into bombastic shit that goes nowhere. sure.

Apocalypticon 01-23-2008 04:29 PM

all ASMZ is different, its hard to compare this new one to something like He Has Left Us Alone

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 04:30 PM

not really, i mean He Has Left Us Alone is a good record. the new one isn't.

Apocalypticon 01-23-2008 04:34 PM

nah they are both good, just in very different ways.

The Door Mouse 01-23-2008 04:35 PM

Lol I've been giving this album out like free candy and I haven't even listened to it yet.

Dies Irae 01-23-2008 04:36 PM

lol

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 04:37 PM

'He Has Left Us Alone' was a great record because it basically took the GYBE sound and broke it down to its minimal requirements. I'm not so much a fan of GYBE after F#A# Infinity (the ep is pretty good) but ASMZ has always been kind of a light parallel to the 'epicness' of GYBE. 'Horses in the Sky' kind of changed that, but at least they were doing it acoustically and making it seem very sincere. '13 Blues' ****s that all up, because it has the same type of lyrics (people died to make this, punks have good dreams or whatever) but it is just bombastic as **** and lame for that reason. also, the crescendos aren't even interesting because there is little to no dynamic interplay on the record. i wish they would've just not gone that route, but i guess it was pretty obvious they were.

Apocalypticon 01-23-2008 04:51 PM

Yeah but if they would have done this album acoustic instead of bombastic it just would have been another Horses In The Sky. In my opinion its bombastic and noisy without sounding like garbage and it seems like a natural progression to go from something like Horse In The Sky to something like 13 Blues For Thirteen Moons.

I don't really think people should compare GY!BE and ASMZ because they're to completely different entities. GY!BE style of slow steady epicness that built up to one final climax is completely different from ASMZ style of piano/string interplay epicness. And with this album they move away from piano and go more with guitars and drums and it works because they're using guitar and drums in a more traditional "rock" way which is a 180 from what GY!BE did with guitar and drums.

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 05:00 PM

there wasn't any piano on 'Horses in the Sky' was there?

LifeInABox 01-23-2008 06:42 PM

The new This Will Destroy You sounds kinda good.
