It's needless red tape. Burt and Nick would probably be best choosing the best entries for the finals to avoid popularity outshadowing merit. Also, whittling down 8 or 9 entries wouldn't be so bad in a vote, but if 15+ songs are nominated? It would be a disaster.

SubtleDagger 05-03-2006 10:00 PM

For one thing, it would take forever. For another, there should be more output from now on in the nominations threads so we should be getting more overall songs, and that means we'll probably have more final choices then four. I will also probably be talking to some other members like Nick or Jared or whoever and getting their opinions on songs, not just Jason. I really don't want to leave it forum-wide though because voting would take too long and would probably be unfair.

Once nominations come around, you can IM me if you want and we can discuss which songs are better than others; I'll try to take other viewpoints into consideration. I really won't be making the final decisions here.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-03-2006 10:04 PM

I just wanted to make note that board activity is greatly improving, as well as the quality of critques and frequency thereof. Personally, I've been trying to critique the songs which have no replies yet, as to keep the less popular users, or songs, from getting, or being discouraged. This new critiquing policy is sending S&L on the up-turn, and it's looking good.

What I'm trying to say is, we're getting a pretty good community going here.

SubtleDagger 05-03-2006 10:13 PM

I agree, it's looking like things are shaping up since we've changed the routine here. Hopefully it continues.

I'm thinking of bumping required crits up a bit. Are we getting a number of song threads with zero replies or lots of bumps?

Nightvision 05-03-2006 11:23 PM

Yeah, kudos on the change of policy, mods. It's worked a treat. Also, well done to the guys that have dug in and done the crits and who have kept things ticking over round here - as APS said, we have a community here now.

Personally, I think we're okay for the moment with one. There will always be a few songs that have to be bumped for whatever reason, either they're just not picked up on by users, or the piece is so plain it doesn't really leave the critiquer much to be enthusiastic about, and it only seems to be a few songs that are slipping beneath the radar really.

deathscreamingsheep 05-04-2006 09:24 AM

Thing is I try to crit songs with no crits but often I seem to find really boring songs that I can only really give a couple of lines on. But despite this I'll add my congrats to the mods, S&L is much better and despite the usual jackasses that turn up there are enough people around who are posting songs and willing to take criticism and improve.

Tickets to Sonic Youth in July... YAy!!! :D

Nightvision 05-05-2006 05:42 AM

Oooh, nice.

There are hardly any decent gigs around here... we're right off the main UK tour route... the last even semi-decent band we had here was The Julianna Theory, and I was working that night, so couldn't make it.

Taking Back Sunday came through a while back, but I refuse to ever go to a gig where I'm the only one not wearing eyeliner.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-05-2006 07:46 AM

It's called Guyliner now. A few days ago, I went out on a limb and walked into our mall's Hot Topic, where I proceeded to ask if they had Welcome the Plague Year's cd or any Joshua Fit For Battle. The girl with dyed red hair wearing all black looked at me with the most confused look I've ever seen (I walked in wearing my preppiest attire, seeing as how I was interviewing for jobs), and then tried to sell me Taking Back Sunday. I gave her a blank stare followed by "No". Isn't that store supposed to be "all about the music"?

We should try and get the new people to participate in the community thread.

Nightvision 05-05-2006 09:20 AM

Haha, we don't have anywhere like that over here really... bit of a shame really, as the only place to get anything that isn't a tracksuit or preppy as hell is online, which is all well and good, but sometimes it's better to be able to actually see something before you shell out on it.

Yeah, the new guys posted a little bit a few pages back... there was a debate on splitting the forums according to ability or something, and a few of them took part. It's nice to have this forum alive again... the last time I actually genuinely looked forward to posting like I do now was way back when it was you, me, zep, mozz and redwonder. Those were good times.

pixiesfanyo 05-05-2006 09:54 AM

I guess our memories differ on what were good times and what weren't Jason.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-05-2006 11:57 AM

Haha, Jason, as for most of our opinions on mozz, refer back to the first post in this thread.

SubtleDagger 05-05-2006 02:49 PM

Those times totally blew.

You're never too old to run away.

pixiesfanyo 05-06-2006 09:54 PM

Is that the title of the new linkin' park album.

Skczzzzchhhh

jurialmunkey 05-07-2006 07:06 AM

If you change run to fly.. it could be the new Michael Jackson concept album. "Ooooo There's a ghost, me and blanket are scared!! Shimoana... ehHee!"

pixiesfanyo 05-07-2006 10:39 AM

Michael Jackson jokes died when Jesus was nailed to the cross, Aussie.

slack 05-07-2006 08:19 PM

Yeah something like that. :)

I was thinking of quitting my job and taking a few things and leaving for someplace else, but that was a couple days ago and I've since fell into the mediocrity that is an 8 to 5 job and a steady paycheck.

Woe is me, haha.

Nightvision 05-08-2006 01:21 AM
I guess our memories differ on what were good times and what weren't Jason.
Haha, I guess so... mind you, it was about the only other time this forum has seen this many posts, despite 90% of them turning out to be spam.

Ooooo Burn... or something. :upset:

metaliq 05-08-2006 03:51 PM

I have 7-4:30 job durring the summer. I hate it. Absolutely no excitement in my life durring that time period.

On a cool note, Pokemon LeafGreen is freggin awesome. I am soooo reliving 5th grade right now. I love it.

pixiesfanyo 05-08-2006 08:03 PM

Pokemon Leaf Green wasn't out in 5th grade.

Only Blue and Red.

TojesDolan 05-08-2006 08:24 PM

oh well technicalities my friend.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-08-2006 09:24 PM

I was in 6th grade, and I knew the Pokemon rap... but I bet you guys did too.

Working at the Olive Garden rules, the waiters there pull $500-600 (if you work Friday and Saturday nights) in tips a week. Today was orientation, I start training Wednesday.

Nightvision 05-09-2006 01:28 AM

Whoa. APS's round, lads.

jurialmunkey 05-09-2006 02:52 AM

definately. Where's my Beer~~!!!!

drumass04 05-09-2006 10:00 AM

Awesome stuff APS!

I never got into the whole Pokemon craze, seemed kinda strange from my view. All these people getting excited over a piece of card with a picture on it (though I do admit, some of them were pretty cool pictures).

Timmy

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-09-2006 10:02 AM

No no, we were all into the games, which are still fun to play. The show and card game never really were big hits though.

What's with all the unfunny noobs trying to act cool?

Nightvision 05-09-2006 10:09 AM

Yeah, the games ruled. Scyther owned everything in the coolness stakes.
What's with all the unfunny noobs trying to act cool?
That hurts man... that really hurts. :upset:
