Spider riffing is like what's used on the start of 'In My Darkest Hour' isn't it? it's very very hard to do at quick speeds.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-19-2005 03:01 AM

Spider riffing where you have two power chords that you want to play that are near each other, but on two adjacent pairs of strings. Rather than fingering one with the first and third fingers, then moving the same fingers to the other position, you leave your hand where it is and finger the other chord with the second and forth fingers instead, or vice versa. It provides an economy of motion that's beneficial when playing a fast riff as the transition from one chord to the other will be MUCH smoother.

Hey guys i was talking to my freind at school and is it true that megadeth named TSHF meaning metallica has failed due to there recent album St.Anger is this true?

Joe 04-19-2005 01:38 PM

hey everyone, i've never posted here.

i'm a huge metallica fan, and i really like some of the stuff that dave did with the band. i haven't really heard much megadeth and so i was thinking about buying one of their albums. which one should i buy?

MAthiAS 04-19-2005 01:39 PM

Vio-lence is right about spider riffing.

And Vic that could be one reason, but quite obviously its mainly titled in reference to the American justice system, hence the song Kick The Chair and banners saying "With Unequal Injustice For All"

Trade in all your Metallica albums for Megadeth albums.

that's not really what i was asking for. i was asking for which one of there albums should i buy first to get into megadeth

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 01:47 PM

gocaps99 in my personal opinoin this is what i did start from thier newest and keep on going back in time but skip risk or do the opposite i did it and it worked out great for me.

I think this would be best. :p

It depends on what you want. IF you want fast and thrashy, go for Rust in Peace. If you want less thrashy, and more layed back, get Countdown to Excitinction. Both are excellent, and I would suggest either.

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 02:00 PM

another thing it might depend on is what is your favorite metallica cd?

Joe 04-19-2005 02:04 PM
another thing it might depend on is what is your favorite metallica cd?
ride the lightning is my favorite

i'll try countdown to extinction first, then rust in peace, thanks.

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 02:10 PM

ride the lightning hmmm? :thumb: well if i were you i would try peace sells but youre choice.

MAthiAS 04-19-2005 02:22 PM

I bet you'd like Killing is my Business, Peace Sells, and Rust in Peace more than CTE if RTL is your favorite Tallica album.

Joe 04-19-2005 02:24 PM

ok well i think i'm going to try Peace Sells and Rust in Peace because those are the two i've heard most about. thanks guys

Get Rust in peace. It's as good as any metallica album

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 03:19 PM

rust in peace is better than any metallica album.

Huber 04-19-2005 03:26 PM

I wouldn't say better. But it's definetly in ranks with them. Same with KIMB

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 03:28 PM

i agree but lately i have been mad at metallica for St.anger so i beleive that the first five albums are good but past that i dont like.

IAJP 04-19-2005 03:32 PM

I'll add my small input to this discussion.
The order I got my Megadeth albums were:
Rust In Peace,
So Far So Good So What!
Countdown To Extinction,
Peace Sells.

(These are the best albums, It, as previously said, completely depends on your personal tastes, RIP is thrashy, SFSGSW! is kind of experimental, CTE is hard rock, and Peace Sells is heavy (post Black Album Metallica) metal)

:)

Huber 04-19-2005 03:34 PM

I think KIMB is the thrashiest, more so the RIP.

Joe 04-19-2005 03:38 PM

???

IAJP 04-19-2005 03:40 PM

It's all opinion really, but I have a few things to say about it:

As we all know, Dave was with Metallica during the songwriting and (some of the) recording sessions of K'EA, obviously, when he was fired, he still owned a series of leases for songs, The Four Horsemen, is a prime example, now take Mechanix, very (VERY) similar to The Four Horsemen, after he was fired, he created KIMB...A great album, but still a slight copy of K'EA.

What I like a lot about R.I.P is the fact that it's Mustaine on his own, no outside sources, no problems happening and evolving around him, it's a completly original album, and allthough not TECHNICALLY as heavy as KIMB, it is a better Thrash album in that sense.

(Did that make sense?)

IAJP 04-19-2005 03:41 PM
???
Megadeth's debut album, Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 03:45 PM

i would agree with you except the fact of KIMB is not on therebut we all have different tastes.

Joe 04-19-2005 03:46 PM

yes it made sense. i knew all that stuff about Dave with Metallica it's just I didn't know anything about KIMB, thanks.

VicRattlehead99 04-19-2005 03:50 PM

my bad jimmy page i understand where you are coming from now my bad.

IAJP 04-19-2005 03:53 PM

It's alright dude, that's just my opinion :).

MAthiAS 04-19-2005 06:33 PM
Peace Sells is heavy (post Black Album Metallica) metal
Uhh... what? I've always felt Peace Sells is a bit overrated, but its definitely a thrash classic.

Meh, KIMB is awesome, Dave just took the stuff that he wrote and used it, its not like he stole any of Metallica's work.

Sandtrap 04-19-2005 06:36 PM

Agreed!

He wrote it! He has a right to it!

Apocalyptic Raids 04-19-2005 09:22 PM

Get Rust In Peace and Peace Sells... they are essential.
