Dave writes practically everything for Megadeth minus a few songs. He writes more interesting rhythm than Kirk could ever think of. I feel he's a better guitarist and doesn't need wah to hide his mistakes.
Meh, to each his own, I dunno, maybe I just think this cos I've heard alot more Metallica with Hamett than with Mustaine

Quickdrop 09-09-2005 12:43 PM

Lightning is probebly my favorite album overall, especially with those songs performed live. (Ktulu S&M, my favorite met song of all time, or close to it).

Britton 09-09-2005 12:44 PM

Hammet is definately better then mustaine

KEA phantom lord
RTL fade to black
MOP mop
AJFA one

Wherever i may roam, thing that should not be, fuel, and enter sandman are the only ones i can think of off the top of my head. Im sure im missing some, but keep in mind all of the solos he DOESNT use wah in.

Hammet > Mustaine

Ok here's my actual opinion

Solo: Hammett > Mustaine
Overall Guitarist: Mustaine > Hammett

Yes, I just said Mustaine overall is a better guitarist. If you can write rhythm you are better than someone who just solos. Hammett doesn't write much rhythm. There are many many MANY more solos Kirk uses the wah for, but when you listen to the recordings he knows when to use it (except on a few various Black Album songs). Kirk is a better soloer, but Mustaine is better overall.

Edit: One last point, Hammett makes Metallica play better. Hammett with Metallica > Mustaine with Metallica
I'm still doing that, the acoustic intro, I can't get the bit that joins the fingerpicking with the strumming care to help?
I'm not sure what part you're talking about. The verse or the intro? The intro there isn't any actual finger picking in the song. You just pick the notes with your pick

It was closed a few days ago

Britton 09-09-2005 01:24 PM

why?

Britton 09-09-2005 01:24 PM

I was just in there yesterday

Father_Jack 09-09-2005 01:26 PM
why?
Because alot of forums are being shutdown for hosting links to songs, copywrited material etc. And Mr. Mx requested we close the YSI threads, altho the odd uploads are OK.

And the AIM album trading threads are still open, so its not all bad news. The Admin just doesnt want MX to be a host for filesharing.

All of a sudden they are worried about it being illegal. Watch the double posts too

Whoa dude, I know for a fact that Kirk uses wah for both wherever I may roam and Enter sandman. Listen to those solos again and you'll see what I mean.

Edit: BTW, I'm pretty sure he uses wah for every solo that he does. For the most part he, like Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhodes, and others, use it as both a booster and as a filter so he can get a great tone. On stuff like fire with fire and the like, you can hear him slightly rocking his wah for a more abrupt sound.

Quickdrop 09-09-2005 02:37 PM

If you read through my post it says those were the ones i could think of off the top of my head.

I'm fairly sure he meant that WIMR and ES have the wah pedal... Yes, Kirk uses the wah pedal for a lot of solos, not necessarily on it though. I use it some times just for a filter and like you said a booster for more tone.

lightningmetal666 09-09-2005 02:42 PM

I do know for a fact that he does sweep his wah on at least Enter Sandman and Wherever I may roam. Every tab on the net and in guitar books notates it.

Quickdrop 09-09-2005 03:26 PM

Dude, exactly. exactly. exactly. he does. he does us it. myself and lightning have said multiple times now. I dont mean to be erritating but wow, come on. lol

lightningmetal666 09-09-2005 03:37 PM

Moving on.

My fav. songs (since everyone else is posting this)

REM-Whiplash (the lyrics and the solo rock)
RTL-Call of the Ktulu (borderlining as my fav. 'tallica song)
MOP-Leper Messiah
AJFA-Harvester of Sorrow/Frayed Ends of Sanity
Black album-Through the Never/Of Wolf and Man (couldn't decide)
Load-Devils Dance
Reload-Fuel
S&M-Call of the Ktulu (the symphony truly brings this song to life. Cliff woulda loved it)
St. Anger-St. Anger/Dirty Window

clairvoyant 09-09-2005 03:42 PM

Um, Kirk Hammett sucks. He even uses wah on Fade To Black when they play it live, he uses wah ALL THE TIME LIVE! And when he doesnt you hear his mistakes very clearly.

Dave Mustaine is far superior to Kirk Hammett as a player and songwriter.

But I do think Kirk was the better choice for Metallica.
