MX's temper tantrums have forced me to leave the house this summer.

I saw this documentary/tribute concert to Leonard Cohen called Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man. It was really good. Rufus Wainwright did Hallelujah and Everybody Knows, Nick Cave did Suzanne, and Antony from Antony & The Johnson did a version of If It Be Your Will that had me fighting back tears. It was just so rawly emotional. There were some other great performances too.

I recommend it to any fans of these artists.

Woo, I graduated last week. I'm pretty glad to be done with uni but now i'm back at home and i'm already bored out of my skull. It doesn't help that there isn't really anyone under the age of like, 70 living in my village. 2 people died this week too which is a bit of a downer :-/

It was also the worst car journey home ever. 2 days in the car, crammed in with all my stuff. Ugh.

Now I just have to earn enough money to be able to move back down south again but seeing as there isn't that much work available I could be here a while. Ah well, c'est la vie.

Little Man being Erased 07-12-2006 01:25 PM

That's cool, TSH. It's a pretty great feeling to be done with that stuff.
My only timetable clashes were Sonic Youth/DJ Shadow (I still get to see half of DJ Shadow)
Gah! That's exactly what I was afraid of. I haven't seen the timetable yet, I'll check it now.

Interstate 07-12-2006 01:41 PM

I missed MX.

Hopefully it's fixed for good now. Stupid hackers and things.

Little Man being Erased 07-12-2006 01:59 PM

Oh, and by the way, God damn Italy again. :(

PinkFreud 07-12-2006 02:05 PM
Okay, guys. Which of these shows should I try to make it to:

THUR JULY 20- DON CABALLERO, HARAM $10 backstage 9:00
WED AUG 2- THEE SILVER MT. ZION MEMORIAL ORCHESTRA AND TRA-LA-LA BAND, BLACK OX ORKESTAR $12 mainstage 8:30
SAT SEPT 23- ELECTRIC SIX, EVERY MOVE A PICTURE, THE BLUE VAN $13 mainstage 9:30
THUR SEPT 28- THE MOUNTAIN GOATS $13 mainstage 8:30
SAT OCT 7- HANK WILLIAMS III $15 mainstage 9:30
Make sure you see Electric Six. They put on one of the best shows I've ever seen if you can sit through the often terrible opening bands. In fact, Priestess opened when I saw them a week or so ago. Absolutely awful. I'll be catching E6 when they close their tour by playing in their hometown again.

br3ad_man 07-12-2006 03:01 PM

Yeah **** Italy.

Little Man, you can still see a pretty decent amount of Sonic Youth or DJ Shadow even if you decide to watch the full set of one of them. It's not like the Stooges/Mars Volta clash at BDO, that sucked.

Little Man being Erased 07-12-2006 03:08 PM

Yeah, I'll wait and see what happens. If Sonic Youth are really good I'll watch all of their set, then head to Shadow, but I might try and catch all of DJ Shadow's set if I'm not really digging the Youth.

I'll probably be seeing most of the same bands as you, except I'll probably see The Presets instead of Jose. And I might try to catch a little bit of the Scissor Sisters before Brian Wilson.
finally seeing a scanner darkley on friday
I only want to see it because it's set in Anaheim mo' fucka

The Jungler 07-13-2006 02:35 PM

I was gonna see it on friday too, but my dad's gonna be in New York so I have no ride. Looks good though, I wish they got someone more talented rather than Reeves. Ed Norton maybe?

Little Man being Erased 07-13-2006 02:39 PM

what the hell is a scanner darkley or whatever?

Interstate 07-13-2006 02:44 PM
what the hell is a scanner darkley or whatever?
I was thinking the same thing.

superpeer 07-13-2006 02:52 PM

Maybe it's a scanner for scanning dark things. Like black paper.

NP: Cypress Hill - We ain't goin' out like that

The Jungler 07-13-2006 02:53 PM

It's a sci-fi movie based on a book by Phillip K. Dick, it's in select theatres or whatever. Most cities have a "select" theatre, check the hipster hideouts and then the ghetto.

It features new tunes from Radiohead :salivate:

superpeer 07-13-2006 02:54 PM

Or that...

Little Man being Erased 07-13-2006 03:28 PM

Both options sound interesting.

Daniel! 07-13-2006 03:32 PM

So I just watched Dead Alive, and it's most likely the hardest that I have ever laughed. Who knew Peter Jackson was so cool?

Robert Crumb 07-13-2006 03:46 PM

They played Jackson's Meet the Feebles at the Crest Theater downtown a week or two ago, part of the Trash Films thing they do. Or whatever it's called. I wanted to go see it because, you know, shit talkin' muppets. But I forgot. What's Dead Alive about?

Edit: Oops, I guess it's this Saturday. Read about it a couple weeks ago.
