We talk about the Eagles every now and again, not everyones a big fan though. I really like them. I own a bunch of their albums.

Walrus Gumboot 06-29-2005 03:18 PM

I never really got into them, I hate it when Hotel California comes on the radio and my sister has to sing along. It gets overplayed almost as much as Stairway. Good song, though

Yea, that's very true.

slowhand 06-29-2005 03:24 PM

I'm not into the Eagles, but I do like Hotel California. I don't care if it's overplayed or not, its a great song.

Stairway to Heaven it's a great song too!

Great... it's a masterpiece. Just one that has been overplayed to the point of annoyance. I hate it when that happens. Especially if it is because of a commercial (ie. Layla)

RockAndRoll 06-29-2005 03:41 PM

annoying people sing along with songs really really gets on my nerves.

slowhand 06-29-2005 03:42 PM

HEY! I love Layla.

=D

I love all those songs that are thought of as overrated and overplayed.

RockAndRoll 06-29-2005 03:43 PM

Ya I do to. I don't care if their "overrated" they still sound good.

Woodstock 06-29-2005 03:45 PM

I've downloaded 2 albums today:

Ten Years After-A Space In Time (thanks to Lunch)
John Coltrane-Giant Steps

magicbus 06-29-2005 03:47 PM

I've downloaded about 15 albums in the last 3 days. I'm addicted to YSI threads.

I tend to as well. People think it's a bad thing that songs are overplayed, but they are usually overplayed because they are good. Some songs, Layla included, seem magical to me and never get old. Actually a lot of songs are like that to me. Basically I don't care if a song is overplayed or not, and I'm not going to let that change my opinion of the song.

TheDMV 06-29-2005 03:48 PM

Layla by D. & the Dominoes >>>>>>>>>> Layla by Clapton.

The acoustic doesn't have the same feel. Electricly, there's just so much more energy.

Yea, I just made a request in the Jazz thread.... :upset:

It will be impossible to go Cold Turkey from this.

I just logged on now for the first time today. Work has begun :upset:

I need to leave this thread and download those. And I agree with DMV about Layla, the electric version is just on fire. But the acoustic is great and in some situations I enjoy listening to it more.

magicbus 06-29-2005 03:50 PM

I played the acoustic Layla in my talent show. I would've liked to play the electric, but it was too short notice and we didn't have time to get amps and pianos and stuff.

I love the piano at the end. I don't know, it makes the song so epic. The first 3 minutes are on fire blues-rock and then everything just calms down and comes to a close with the piano.

robo2448 06-29-2005 03:56 PM

Everyone go look at the last reply in the "Are Older Bands Overrated thread"

I held myself back from replying. Try to see the humor in his idiocy.

Woodstock 06-29-2005 03:57 PM
I've actually stopped downloading music (for the time being, anyway) as I realised that I had so much stuff that I'd never really checked out properly, to see if I liked it, as I kept on buying/downloading new albums rather than actually listening to what I already had. Having said that, Giant Steps is an excellent album, Woodstock...it's no A Love Supreme, but still a really good jazz album.
Actually, Iai thinks Giant Steps is much better than A Love Supreme. And Iai has pretty similar likings to me(excluding all his Alt/Indie material)

The thing is, where I live, Comcast launched an add campaign which basically consisted of playing the main riff to Layla over and over again in the same commercial, and then playing different commercials just like it. Constantly. This resulted in my hearing that riff at least 4 times every 30 min. for about a month's worht of TV watching. Comcast killed Layla.

Thankfully, I'm one of those people who can actually stand something even after continious play.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-29-2005 04:13 PM

I agree, it's the most perfect album there is. Not a wasted note on the entire album just pure perfection. It even ranks ahead of PATGOD as my favorite album.

robo2448 06-29-2005 04:14 PM
Thankfully, I'm one of those people who can actually stand something even after continious play.
Same with me for the most part. I could probably listen to Layla everyday and never get sick of it.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-29-2005 04:17 PM

I never liked "Layla" or "Stairway" but "Hotel California" is amazing.

I have Volume 1, one of my favorite CDs ever. I have been searching for Vol. 3 for months. I requested it in YSI a few days ago but nobody had it. You can't be god since that's Clapton, but you are my hero :thumb:

Sorry if I'm pissing you off, I'm not sure if you were talking to me or Slowhand. I'm not really religious either, but I'm a member of my church and stuff. I was just joking around, I'll stop. I guess it is kind of immature.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-29-2005 05:16 PM

No, I'm not mad at you but all this bull**** about "Clapton is God" has to be stopped. People who say that just make me think less of Clapton. There's no worse way to overrate a guitarist than to give him the title "god". I'm really sick of it.

Good God. Chill out man. I'm just joking around.

Think about it for a minute. You're getting all pissy over something someone said over the internet, which is a joke, just to have some fun on the forum.

And don't apologize, robo, you did nothing wrong. Who you are is who you are, and is nothing to be ashame of. If that's immature, then so be it, I'm immature, but I'm having a blast while I am. I don't want to grow up so fast. It get boring.

It's just a little joking, but it probably has gotten a little old. Anyway, someone want to recommend me a live Clapton CD? I don't have any of his live stuff.

Try "One More Car, One More Rider". I have the dvd, and its very cool. An album of it came out too.

The only thing I have that has Clapton playing live on it's the Cream Farewell Concert DVD's and the Concert for George.

But I have seen the Crossroads Festival and it's amazing.

Well you are a fan boy of him and you sure do say "Clapton is God" alot so what am I supposed to think? It seems as though you're actully starting to beleive it too. Weither that true or not I don't care but you're making Clapton look bad.

robo2448 06-29-2005 05:28 PM

Unplugged and One More Car, One More Rider are always at Sam Goodey, if they're both good I guess I'll buy them both. I sometimes see Concert for George there too.

So what if I am a Clapton 'fanboy,' I enjoy being me. And if I make Clapton look bad for you, then that's bad for you. I'll still be here enjoying listening to Clapton. And I don't think Eric Clapton would mind losing someone who would buy his stuff, since there are million of other people that will, even though I'm a 'fanboy' and making him look bad.

And if you read your post, you're making yourself look bad by getting all your panties in a bunch over a stupid comment that was something to bring a little fraternisation on this thread.

Think about it. Who looks worst? Clapton because he has a 'fanboy' or someone who gets pissed off at something on an internet forum?
