Cryptopsy's none Worm stuff

Gallery of Suicide

but whatever, it's personal taste right

oh yeah, and what nate said

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 03:42 PM

Of course, like I said, that list was composed off the top, so I definitely missed some I meant to put down.

Cannibal Corpse are boring, Severed Savior are pretty bad, there's only one good Cryptopsy album and Psycroptic are pretty mediocre. And I wouldn't consider Napalm Death DM.

The rest is okay.

Deth 03-10-2010 03:46 PM

fuuuuuuuuuck so good must listen right now

oh yeah, and what nate said
Legion and Once was a toss up, but I still love the s/t and Legion. Are you a Cryptopsy fan that favors the older work JUST because of Lord Worm's presence? I tend to love everything Cryptopsy did from '94 to 2000, but that's based solely on the fact that the best extreme metal guitarist ever was in the band during those years (Jon Levasseur). As for Gallery, yeah, I know this album never scores very high with CC fans, but I love it. I think it's chalk-full of fantastic songs, as it showed the band pursuing the slightly more progressive style that was hinted at with Vile.

The rest is okay.
If you take out the plethora of blasts, SS's new release would sound pretty damn similar to a lot of older-school dm releases, at least imo. I think they write some great stuff, albeit a little monotonous. Let me guess, the one good Cryptopsy will either be BMF or NSV, right? A lot of Cryptopsy fans hated where they went with Whisper Supremacy, and understandably so, but it's nothing like the leap from terrible OWN to the god-awful TUK. I'm only a fan of Psycroptic's very first release and SotA, only because their guitarist was treading some unfamiliar territory with his riffage, and I found it inspiring. Napalm Death was a stretch, but I enjoy that album quite a bit, and it does have blasting. Let's not start a battle of semantics though, because those are just plain annoying.

I honestly love Gallery, and can't for the life of me understand where all the hate for it comes from. Any fellow guitarists that hate it?

Anthracks 03-10-2010 03:58 PM

didnt say i hate it, it's just me least fav

Deth 03-10-2010 03:59 PM

guitar has no relevance in death metal

it's about siqq thuggin beats and pig squeals

Pete 03-10-2010 04:01 PM

yeah you don't even need to buy a guitar when there's this;

tuned down to G

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 04:03 PM

Hahahaha. Did I mention I can play every Slayer solo ever written? You just start at the 15th fret and play every note as fast as possible.

I heard the first SS release and it really didn't do anything for me. And the only Cryptopsy album I really like is NSV, BMF is okay though. And I agree on your last statement, I'm just saying...idk about ND on that list.

Pete 03-10-2010 04:07 PM

Mike Gilbert's inclusion on guitar broadened (if only slightly) their sound, and added scathing precision to the riffs. Troy Fullerton's drumming get's monotonous after a while, but hey, the guy's amazing, and sometimes the tunes just call for it. Cryptopsy's releases after NSV were a huge departure, but it was one that I was fully on board with, since I'm a huge tech-death nut (spawn of possession, etc). Agreed on Napalm, I just love that album, I tend to throw it on all my lists, regardless of classification.
slayer solo? written?
Haha, touche. I forgot they're masters of improv. The only inspiration Hanneman and King need are of the 40 oz. variety.
joe haley is the only good part of psycroptic
Dude, Dave is an awesome drummer! His cymbal work on Isle of Disenchantment and Scepter alone demands attention and respect. I pretty much lost interest in them after 2003 though, since they kind of failed to go anywhere with their sound.

at least we agree chalky sucks

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 04:35 PM

Haha, I can appreciate the man's range (high demon burp to low demon growl/burp), but it doesn't fit the music. And I'm not sure how to feel about his inclusion in the new Spawn of Possession line-up. We'll just have to wait and hear some recordings.

Anthracks 03-10-2010 04:38 PM

im not even excited for new spawn because of him

adb 03-10-2010 04:46 PM

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 04:54 PM

Haha, wow. Just wow. Please tell me you're kidding.

Anthracks 03-10-2010 04:57 PM

why would i be kidding

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 05:02 PM

I just never knew anyone that would sacrifice hearing something so amazing over some lousy vox. For me its never been a case of "vox make or break", but that's me.

Anthracks 03-10-2010 05:30 PM

karlsson gone, he has a faggot replacement and chalky is in the band...there's no way i could be excited for that

looking forward to it slightly mayube

AHandfulOfSweatpants 03-10-2010 05:33 PM

Ok, I COMPLETELY agree with you about Karlsson's departure, since he was a musical genius, but don't discount the band's abilities now. Bryzz was and still is the main composer, and he hasn't lost his abilities. And even though Muenzner can't seem to play a single solo without throwing in some formulaic sweep every two seconds, he assured everyone on the SoP forum that his goal was to try and capture the same mood and direction the band has always gone for. And besides, all he's doing is playing leads that Bryzz might be composing.
