Distant Echoes 03-12-2005 06:47 PM

Presence have only a couple good songs i think, In through the out door is garbage, since i just dont go for that music - especially when i know zeppelins making it, and i dont even bother with coda. Achilles Last Stand probably raises Presence's rating from 2 - 6 in my book, but Nobodies fault but mine has to be one of the worst songs i ever heard...i just cant stand it

Walrus Gumboot 03-12-2005 06:47 PM

It seems like Plant's vocals were pretty much shot after Presence

Distant Echoes 03-12-2005 06:49 PM

yeah, his cig smoking really caught up to him...the band reported that it was getting worse and worse, and Page's heroin addiction was showing effect on his performances live too.

Im surprised they got presence in as soon as they did...after plant was in that huge car accident and all. The whole album was recorded with him in a wheelchair.

Funny thing too...i read he 're-injured' his leg after falling out of his wheelchair during recording of Achilles Last Stand since he was so into the song

Achilles Last Stand is magic, love that song. I would have to say my least favourite song from Led Zep is "Crunge" off Houses of the Holy, I really like the album but that song drops the rating a tad because I'm always skipping it.

magicbus 03-12-2005 06:53 PM
Anybody familiar with The Eleventh House or Return to Forever? My dad pulled out a few cds for me to check out and I'm ripping them now.
I haven't listened to the latter yet, but so far The Eleventh House rules. Anybody?

You slut! How could you hate Nobody's Fault?

I love The Crunge, well its Plants weakest track (probally why they only played the instrumentals to it on How The West Was Won, but the rest of the band is awsome.

MalcolmYoungRock 03-12-2005 06:55 PM
It was mine too. It also converted me to classic rock. That trippy part in Whole Lotta Love blew my mind. Then there were those quick licks that Jimmy plays after. I thought how on earth is he doing that?

Heh heh now I know those licks.
So do I!!

It was so funny, people get so impressed by those licks, my friend and I just walked up during the 4th of July party here, he got on the drums and just played those staccato snares, and I played those licks...

I got some that night. :thumb: *

*Did not actually get some :upset:

I forget which album it's on, but LZ did a song called "All of My Love" or something that was pretty awful

Good things after HotH:
1) Fool In the Rain
2) Achilles Last Stand

feel free to add

funkybeeatch14 03-12-2005 06:59 PM

Nobody's Fault But Mine, and In the Evening is bearable. Worst Zeppelin song, best song on In Through the Out Door.

I really dislike the lyrics though which weakens the song considerably. Just listening to it now, because the vocals are poor it sort of destroys the track. The other elements of the song, such as the instrumentals which are quite good.

ARE YOU KIDDING???

ALL MY LOVE IS BRILLIANT.

It was on In Through the Out Door, but Plant's voice is AMAZING in that song.

Did JPJ synthesize violins in it?

funkybeeatch14 03-12-2005 07:05 PM

All My Love is less than average...a trumpet synth solo in the song that outshines a Jimmy Page solo? Not cool. I agree that Plants vocals are good, but it sounds like hes smoked a couple packs before recording it.

"Those licks" are my favorite part of any Zeppelin song in their entire discography. I absolutely love that part.

Yea but if you have ever listened to Van Halen then you start to develop a way of tuning out the lead singer if you need to so I don't mind the song :thumb:

Don't remeber.. I only have it on vinyl and my dad stole the amp back :upset:

funkybeeatch14 03-12-2005 07:09 PM

It's a trumpet synthesizer solo.

pigonthewing82 03-12-2005 07:11 PM
"Those licks" are my favorite part of any Zeppelin song in their entire discography. I absolutely love that part.
That was the first solo that I ever learned, and I still play it everyday. I even run a Zippo lighter over my strings when it comes time to do the violin bow part, whitch produces about the same effect. I play that song when I want to jam because it leaves open so much room for it.

MalcolmYoungRock 03-12-2005 07:21 PM

Shut up you fucking fanboy.

Just because a song doesn't have a Page solo doesn't mean it's not good.

Besides, if you listen carefully, Page does some nice improv.

Edit: I'm listening to it again, and I'm even more convinced that you're an idiot. There are some Page solos, you just aren't listening hard enough, they're very soft. Besides, there's some good musical arrangement here.

2nd Edit: Also, what the hell are you talking about "he smoked a couple of packs"? His voice sounds better than anything on that album.

Besides, he sung it with his dead son Karac in mind. You should respect that.

Those licks are why I'm here right now.

thickasabrick 03-12-2005 07:37 PM

I would like to go on record saying I have never heard a Zeppelin song I didn't enjoy. I think the lowest point in Zeppelins career were Plants vocals on the Crunge, despite Page, JPJ and Bonham playing amazing music.

All of My Love is an amazing song.

Oh yea I wasn't defending the Crunge as a whole song. Actually if I want to listen to it I just pop in Dazed and Confused off How The West Was Won :p

And I also love All of my Love, I like to think of that as their closing song because thats my favorite song so late in their career.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-12-2005 08:00 PM

Has anyone heard The Notorious Byrd Brothers?

Its really good and it proves pschedelic folk can be a great thing. It almost ranks up with 5th D.

lunch998 03-12-2005 09:27 PM

I see we have some Achilles fans in here.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-12-2005 09:50 PM

Nashville Skyline is a good album to bad it's so short.

pigonthewing82 03-12-2005 10:10 PM

I'm wondering do you guys think classic rock is definded as the time period a good band came out in, a bands sound, or just how good they are?

I say its how good they are, what do you think?
