I wasn't asked, but here is my quarell with Thrice, the only kid I know who likes them is a diehard fan, and also the biggest douche in the universe, he seriously is the most egomaniacal piece of **** ever.
C'mon, I'm not that bad :p

Seriously though, don't hate a band because of the fans, that's no good.

Med57, congrats on the Mod. What forum is it for?

BoboTheRagingHobo 04-19-2005 08:35 PM

Whoa, Med got modded?

When did this happen?

Permanent Solution 04-19-2005 08:36 PM

It's only for Sputnik, and he got modded earlier today.

i am the robots 04-19-2005 08:37 PM

Med deserves it, he's basically been a mod by word for the longest time.
It's interesting you describe it as slick, when Melting point of wax is one of their smoother/poppier songs... Eh, I was just wondering, because I love them :)
Yeah, I know Melting Point isn't one of their edgier songs..I know what I mean though, even if you don't :)

I like Melting Point mostly for the lyrics, I think, and the bit around 1:00, when the vocalist goes "parody of an angel, miles above the sea, I hear the voice of reason, SCREAMING UP TO ME". His voice just jumps up, in volume, intensity, everything. It's awesome.

How is that Thrice's fault? :-/
That's one of the great unanswered questions of indie music. I've never liked that album at all, and I have no idea why it gets hyped as much as it undoubtedly is. Ian Brown never could sing, and I can live with that, but there's just so much better music of that sort out there. I agree that the album has its moments, but it's not even close to being indispensable.
I think my problem with it (at the moment, anyway) is that it seems to be trying too much to make them 'proper' songs. The two tracks I like the most (I Am the Resurrection and Fool's Gold - I like a couple of others but those two just stand head and shoulders over the rest) seem to be the two most jam-like songs on the record. I get the feeling that if they'd released an album of just them playing what they felt like, with only a very loose structure tying it all together, I would have loved it.

Kurtz 04-19-2005 08:38 PM
I listened one time, but I just couldn't listen, I kept thinking of that douche bag and how much I want him dead.
I wouldn't try to associate fans with the music, no matter how annoying they are. If the fans are dicks or not, how does it effect the music?

Permanent Solution 04-19-2005 08:43 PM

Fair enough.

I actually love Thrice for their lyrics in general, though I prefer most of the stuff off Identity Crisis for the most part lyrically above the other albums, as far as meaningful to me. I think one of the strengths in general with the band is their dynamics control, so I know what you mean :)

Bartender 04-19-2005 08:47 PM

I've only heard one album of theirs (The Artist in the Ambulance). There were a few songs other than Melting Point that I liked (Cold Cash.., Hoods on Peregrine, some others I can't remember the names of), but I don't think I would have bought the album. Maybe I'll try and give one or both of their other albums a listen.

Thrice discussion?

Uh-oh, my black ass is in the dark in that field.

Permanent Solution 04-19-2005 08:50 PM

Ah, well it's hard to judge them on one CD actually, because each of theirs has a distinct sound to it, and it's pretty easy to tell which CD a song is from because of that distinctness. Actually if you've only heard TAITA, you haven't heard the hardcore Thrice really because there was hardly even any hardcore influence on it, unlike their other two. :)

EDIT: ATM: It can be.

I only have Antics, and it's good (really good, but not up to the point where I'd use something other than "good" describe it). I've been told the first one is better by most people, but not all. I could upload a few tracks from it for you, if you want.

Yeah, it sucks at my school though, cause only like 2 of the black kids at my school are cool, one of them is actually Malato, and leans toward his white herritage, and is one of my best friends, the other is just hilarious, and a few others are ok, but cheesey.

The rest are stereotypical MTV generation thugs. They think that they are cool/tough just because of their race, and they call people "white boys" and put up black power posters, plus they're all abysmally retareded, I'm not sure if they actually are dumb, or just don't try, but they seem to think that they are the majority and have the right to congregate in the middle of the hall between periods, and one actually back out her car... INTO MY FRIENDS, WITH WITNESSES YELLING AT HER, but she denies it ever happened.... ****ing assholes, MTV ruined this country.

and no offense Illmatic, but I seriously hate those kids, but because of their actions.

Beck said it best:

[i]Mtv makes me wanna smoke crack
Fall out of the window and I’m never comin back
Mtv makes me wanna get high
Can’t get a ride no matter how I try
And everything’s perfect
And everything’s bright
And everyone’s perky
And everyone’s uptight
I watch those videos
I watch ’em all day........
And I plug ’em in my eyeballs--
Hey hey

And the colors are nice
And the pictures are nice
And the girls are nice
Everything’s so nice
I said mtv makes me wanna smoke crack
Fall out of the window and I’m never comin back

Can’t get a ride, can’t get a ride

Also, my girlfriend gave me the sigh today. That was pretty weird.
