I was just trying to point something out... I mean, c'mon, don't act like that wouldn't hurt your feelings if one of us said that we didn't care.

metaliq 04-30-2006 12:34 AM

Oh, and yes, I agree that people who post have finished stuff, or use it as an excuse, shouldn't do that. It irritates me as well.

jurialmunkey 04-30-2006 03:42 AM

Nothing makes sense anymore...

bmajdan1 04-30-2006 06:30 AM
Kind of on a related note, could we make it a rule where people ca not put up partially completed pieces? I'm sick of giving someone a critique and then they just blow it off by saying "oh yeah well I wasnt done with it anyway".

I mean people should be only posting up their finished polished pieces, not partially constructed skeletons of lyrics. You wouldn't ask me to taste test your food when you're not done cooking it, why would you ask me to critique your writing when it's not complete?

Then again, I've posted some half-done stuff and gotten a decent critique.
:chug: Why do u even give them critics if they blow u off every time.We all have a different taste.Maybe u should post new thread to make an anonymus lyrics collection.Who knows maybe one day it`ll worth million.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-30-2006 07:05 AM

Music makes me go "la la la", but screaming music makes me go "BWAH BWAH BWAH".

Discuss.
on an unrelated note, am I the only one that's noticing a recent increase in the number of emotional pop-punk style 'almost witty and clever but not quite' lyrics a lá P!ATD and Fall Out Boy?
Yeah but that's pretty much because of PATD and FOB. Although I must admit to liking Fall Out Boy, a lot of these other pop-punk follower group lot irk me in their lyrics.

Thing is, they try to be witty and clever just as FOB do but in some way think that witty and clever is lyrics that make no sense at all with badly thought out metaphors and terrible structure. So they're not only bad lyrics, but they're not even catchy a la Sum 41 or something.

Meh... rant over. And on the subject of emotional Pop-punk sort of thing I've been listening to Thursday loads recently. I really should have got into them before.

bmajdan1 04-30-2006 07:09 AM

What`s there to discuss. You don`t discuss others thaste you like it or not

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-30-2006 07:32 AM

Is Thursday's new CD out? I think they did a track or two with Converge on it.

 Is Winchester in Australia or England.I`m form Croatia, but that place sounds familliar to me.I`ve never heard about THURSDAY the band

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-01-2006 10:33 AM

I'm in Winchester, Virginia. United States. There are quite a few though.

Nightvision 05-01-2006 10:35 AM

'sup APS.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-01-2006 11:22 AM

The band is pretty much falling through, Trophy Scars got booked, and nobody will hire me. Isn't it at least curteous to call back someone who has gone in for two interviews at your restraunt?

Otherwise, pretty good.

Nightvision 05-01-2006 11:31 AM

Boy, that sucks hard. :(

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-01-2006 11:57 AM

It's impossible to find people who will be devoted to a band around here. Everyone is like "hawthorennehtiethgtsxcore".

Nightvision 05-01-2006 12:02 PM

yup... same round here. I swear, being a drummer and living within a 30 mile radius of me seems to cause an imbalance in the brain causing people to be complete dribbling morons.

So I gave up - I'm going to buy a drum machine soon and just record solo.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-01-2006 02:37 PM

Maybe I should look into that, can they do double bass and odd time signatures?

metaliq 05-01-2006 03:54 PM

You can stream Thursday's new CD from MYSAPCE!l
Maybe I should look into that, can they do double bass and odd time signatures?
I suspect most can do Double Bass (I assume you mean Double-Kick) its just a matter of programming it right. You may have to do some with double tempo and half bars though. Odd times are different, it really depends, alot are constricted to 4/4 and swung, though most of them you can truncate the pattern length from 16 drumhits (4/4 in semiquavers) to whatever you like. Some have 32 per 4/4 pattern. Computer ones are unlimited depending on the program.

you should try to come here.If you wanna play any rock, metal or alternative first you must find someone who likes it & then round up a band.To find bass player or a drummer is almost impossible. The music they listen here is called folk.

TojesDolan 05-02-2006 11:20 AM

I don't have good luck with fellow musicians, most of them are very, very crappy ones and think that modern rock and pop-rock is amazing, and the few great musicians are all occupied and into projects I don't fit in.

I guess I'll record my post-rock-metal-jazzblues-sex album will have to be on the works all alone.

In the songwriting department it's kinda flowing, some new stuff on the works too.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 05-02-2006 05:22 PM

Trophy Scars is rebooked on their way back through, hopefully this band of mine will be ready to play. If anyone can make it to Northern Virginia (like right off I-81) on the 30th of July, it will be a good show.

Nightvision 05-02-2006 05:43 PM

if I'm in the area, I'll drop by. :p

In other news, older girls are hard work at first, but totally worth it.

jurialmunkey 05-02-2006 07:48 PM

How long has Song of the Month (SOTM) been happening?? I thought it only started but I noticed that according to the SOTM thread that you (Jason101) has commented that APS has been in 3... Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention.

Nightvision 05-02-2006 08:04 PM

Yeah, I did a couple of one-offs last year when we had a couple of particularly good months, and APS was nominated in both of them... although this is the first time it's been done in its current format (ie multiple rounds).

FA 05-02-2006 09:18 PM

Attn: ATC, what's your avatar from? I was glancing around some friend's myspace's and one of them had a band "Private Drive" and their picture was that kittie shooting a machine gun around. Just curious if that held any significance or not.

Ahhh... ok. So I'm not just imagining things again.

RunAmokRampant 05-03-2006 01:10 AM

:( Mine didn't make the grade for the polls I assume. Can I ask why? It's not that I'm angry or anything but I'd like some reasons for justifcation

jurialmunkey 05-03-2006 01:17 AM

Because Aussies write terrible lyrics...

...Except for Rolf Harris - He is my Hero. I wish I could play the wobble board like him... And those lyrics, like OMG! Genius!!!

Because I thought the others were better and I had to narrow down four out of like eight or something.

But they were all good; you all at least know what you're doing and how to do it.
Because Aussies write terrible lyrics...
Yeh I mean look at the last Australian idol winners. Thier lyrics are terrible not to mention the music, and are supposedly written by 'professionals'. And there is a new one coming this year. We'll just have to brace ourselves I suppose.

And Subtledagger: if there were like 8 nominations, why not have 2 polls instead and then have a final poll for the winners of the other polls? Shouldn't it be up to the S&L members to decide whose entry is the best. I'm not questioning your choices for the poll, I just thought that this whole thing was meant to be for everyone to choose which one they think is the best and not choose the ones that you thought were the best. I think it kind of detracts what the whole point of what the 'Song Of the Month' is.

Just a suggestion for next time maybe.
