That's mad Jase, sounds like it's coming along nicely.
Live music sounds alot better down there, the central coast where i am (between sydney and newcastle) is patheeeeetic. In other news we jammed on the weekend and though it wasn't overly productive we just jammed freely, made up a progression and improvised for 10 minutes straight, the other guys wanna put some structure into it and convert it into a song now. :p I'm also getting quite a bit of progress on a few things i've been writing, between year 12 and all the ideas i've been flooded with lately i've been sooo busy, but i'm loving it :D Btw Trea...i saw that thread in guitar "electric is extremely worse than classical"....some of the comments in there were so ridiculous, the whole forum seems so childish sometimes. Beginner questions and The Jam session are just like bomb shelters haha, but nice work trying to put some things into perspective. I'll put my recording up asap :) |
What? There's an e-fight with Trea involved???
*grabs his axe and runs off to join Trea in battle* Improv is so much fun, especcially spontanious improv, or when someone just starts belting out Funky Town or 1000 Miles and it leads to a 20 minute stupid jam. Get that recording up already man! I wanna hear some Haw pedal action! |
lawl
*flexes e-muscle* Thanks bro. Yeah jams are great fun. So's abandoning music completely in those situations other than me creating a theme song on the spot while the other two run around knocking chairs over pretending to be their alias super heros: Super Joy Joy and Anti Joy Joy (result of my sister telling one of them to grow up). Everyone changing instruments works well too. Hawwww!!! Hey, we could get one that goes hawahawahawah. |
I'll upload what i've got done now and edit the link in :p
EDIT: Sorry about the holdup guys, i couldn't get my putfile to work last night, here you go. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=620514 Still needs further mixing...and i think i may rerecord the guitar to make it a little more distinguishable from the haw (:p) track |
Glad I didn't wait up :p.
Dayyymn that band pic is hawt. You should keep the name of the song as is... it'd look interesting on the back of an album. Sounds cool man, nice work :). EDIT: Oh yeah, did my year 12 exam today. I'm swapping between feeling like I stuffed it up (which I don't think is realistic, but I have this habit of feeling that way... even when I got 98% on my last practice exam lawl) and did quite well. I guess I've just gotta wait til Dec to find out. |
Thanks :) Haha i drew that in paint, the result of some boredom filled nights :p i really should fix up the drummers kit/entire body haha.
Good luck with your results aye, what subject was this for.. maths? Or music? I have a feeling one of those, a top of the year student in most classes who got 98% on the last practice sounds pretty convincing to me :p Hahaha, super joy joy...oh and in relation to the stupid jam improv you mentioned jase, we sometimes just bust out into rock lobster or something similar after we've rehearsed a few songs, haha jamming is soo much fun. :chug: |
so what were you guys for Halloween?
|
We don't have it :p Though my brother went to a halloween party. You?
|
Halloween...
I was celebrating after my exam :D. My friend's mum was drunk. Hahaha she (my mate) came home from trick or treating with her little bro and her mum was standing out on the side of the road in some strange clothes, with her hair all crazy, face painted white, this massive drawn on monobrow and bright red lips, waving to all the cars going past (on a busy road btw). She'd also adapted the front yard to be like a graveyard, and put candles on the letterbox. My friend was like "omg, get inside before someone sees you!". She was saying that one of the candles fell over and lit the letterbox on fire, and her mum was just standing there laughing at it, so she had to go and put it out. But yeah, us Aussies don't really do anything halloweenish. I saw two girls dressed up when I was driving home, but that was the extent of it and was pretty unusual. How bout you though? Hehe, :embarrassed:. You might've seen it in the other thread, but it was for IPM which is an IT subject. It's great because I'm taking the other IT subject for VCE next year which practically has the exact same theory as this year's course, just more on the programming side practically. VB ...wow? |
Grr. I've offically spent the whole day unsuccessfully trying to fix my web browser. I can't open more than one window at a time.
It's frustrating the living f*ck out of me, because I can't listen to any indie and unsigned stuff on Soundclick, or update the MSM website (which hasn't been touched for about 4 months). Somthing has embedded itself in IE itself and now whenever there's a word like "student" or "music" or "sex" or "cheap" there's a green hyperlink over it. My nerd skills are too weak to fix it :( I need the help of Obe Won Nerdburger :(. As for Haloween... my little brother went to school dressed and Jean Simmons . |
Yeah i saw :) How do you think you went? I did computer studies in years 9 and 10...looking back i have no idea why i didn't do IT instead...get 2 units of my hsc done, and a hell of a lot more interesting than the boring crap we did in computer studies. We learned the finer points of using microsoft word and excel and stuff.....i spent most of the 2 years playing stupid internet games to pass the time haha.
Haha drunk fun, it's great. That's weird jase i never had that problem, firefox is good with the whole tabbed windows thing though, maybe check out a new browser unless someone can help fix it. |
hows life everyone
|
I've gotten around to deciding I did fairly well. My teacher said if I don't get an A+ he'll go on a rampage to VCAA (your BOS) :p.
Most of it's common sense (check out the Discussion Thread - some of those questions you'd be able to do lol). I wish the exam had actually been a bit harder, because that would really seperate the results of those who had studied from those who had only half-tried. Ninj-edit: yer great thanks, how's bout you? |
not to bad exams comin up cant wait til holidays i ned a break
|
I know the feeling. Going away or anything?
|
It's a shame when they're like that. (Basically the whole school certificate (years 9-10)) We were soooo worked up about that and then it was heaaaaps easy.
Haha that reminds me of when i did an english speech which another teacher marked where i got 6/15, my normal teacher complained to the marking teacher that my speech was far better than she marked it and tried to get my mark changed. Unfortunately this woman is a massive bitch and wouldn't budge. She claimed that my speech was too shallow and a whole other bunch of bullshit and my normal teacher was thrilled with my speech when i gave her a runthrough. Good luck aye, sounds like you did well. |
Thanks bro. Man that sucks with your speech. Gotta hate those teachers.
It's funny with our music assessments. Our classroom teacher will insist something was wrong whilst our MD will say "no, that's definitely right - come on, I'm teaching him this piece for chrissake" and they argue about all kinds of stuff. Argh, last solo performance, she started tapping with her foot really off the beat to one of my pieces so I had to swap into her beat because it was really putting me off in my peripheral. She threw a kid out of the room last year because someone said The Cure was a 70s band... and she dinted the BRICK wall by flinging the door open so hard when she was throwing someone else out of the room. She's so loved... |
Hahaha...fark how rediculous. We had another sub teacher for english one day (my god what is it with these english teachers) who threw my drummer out of the class and subsquently got him actually kicked out of the class and plodded into another...because he was eating one of those cheese spread things. She claimed he was throwing it around the room and sleeping on the floor and all kinds or crap. My music teacher is awesome, she's so laid back about everything and not in any way biased when it comes to musical tastes.
eg. we have a guitarist in our class who plays shred metal-esque and shes totally cool with that, then she'll have discussions about classical/baroque with another student...and then when i did Carnatic Indian music last term she was really interested to learn about the small amount of it that i know (:p). You can't put a foot wrong in terms of song choice with her unless it's outside the topic you've chosen or some constructive suggestions to what you could try to improve on. |
 I think that's worse.
Haha awesome. Ours hates jazz apparently. But she looked impressed when I played some last semester, so I'm pretty happy there. I don't get how people are so set in what they like or dislike sometimes. I can't stand it when people don't give different sorts of music a chance. On a related note, you shoulda seen my grandma's face when she found out I was listening to metal. lol! |
Yeah exactly i try to draw influence from everything i listen to, my media player library has indian/flamenco/rock/metal/psychedelia/progressiv/folk/jazz/blues/some electronic stuff that my friend got me insterested in/hip hop etc etc
I mean obviously as a guitarist i'm more influenced and steered towards guitar related music, but theres a tonne you can learn and draw from other forms of music or other instruments. Example: my drummer was telling me about metric modulation in drumming the other day so now i'm interested in learning about it to try and incorporate it into my playing/composing. Haha your grandma would have had quite a shock i guess, or was it that she was like OMG TREA HOW GOOD IS METAL I NEVER KNEW YOU LIKED IT! QUICK COME LISTEN TO SOME PANTERA (make shift manner :p hahaha) |
Haha all the time.
I really don't look like someone who would listen to metal, so yeah. It led to me finding out that my cousin actually listened to it in her teens too, which is kinda scary. I was born the day after her 21st birthday, and seriously at practically every stage of my life there's been a photo of her that looks like me (not that I'm complaining). Srs, my sister was shown a photo of my cous when I was younger and when they asked who it was, she said it was me. She played guitar excessively in her teens, was up there academically, we both had childhood dreams of being an architect (except she actually is one now), both have a thing for languages (she knows like 5)... freakish-like. That's great. Metric modulation is fun. Seriously pull that stuff into your playing, trust me, people love it. Analyse some of those latin beats, rhythms from them tabla, etc. There was an article I had from somewhere which I think was relevant. EDIT: One of these might be it... Hey thanks :) , i'll have a good read of that it seems like really interesting stuff. This is what i love about music/music theory....there's always more to learn...and just when you're confused about where to go next you just get led onto something...i love it. By the way, my drummer is planning on buying a violin and just teaching himself that on the side, which i think is pretty cool. I'm sure there's something he can pull from a better understanding of violin...to benefit his drumming. Even if it is just learning to read say the rhythm of sheet music better (he reads drums as notation).
Gotta say though, drums...violin. Two of the most annoying instruments for people to put up with when someone is learning them, his mum is pretty damn tolerant :p |
Ughhhh so tired
Dude, stop stealing my opinions! :) Interesting choice for a drummer, almost makes him sound like he's becoming a musician :p. Nah I love em, they're awesome. |
lol this is the first ime I've been awake since halloween. I had a good halloween. Let just leave it at that and move on...
SO do you guys have AP exams in Australia? |
They're like AP (or how I understand AP, which isn't much) but we call them HSC (for NSW - where sydney is lol), or VCE for Victoria. Other states have different names for them too, but hey, they're all essentially the same sort of thing with different names and variations on coursework.
C'ept, our uni entry score is based on our yr 12 results (mainly our yr 12 exams), whereas yours is some kind of point system you build up across several years' results, amirite? Or am I mixing that up with somewhere else? |
no in america its yrs 9 - 12, but pretty much the only things that count are yr 10 and 11, your AP results, SAT score, ACT number(some other test) and your entry paper.
I know a guy who wanted to go to college as a French Horn major. He broke his face right after he got in via audtion and will never be able to play again. He failed a lot of his classes all 4 yrs and he didn't do too well on any other tests. But damn he used to be able to play Horn. Moral of the story: He still goes to that same college, paying the same amount he would have if he still played Horn. America is messed up. And yes his face story is funny, sad and true. We party hard in California. |
Haha, we had a guy called Phil in my music classes. He fell asleep in front of the drumkit in music class one day, so the teacher started doing a drum solo.
The dude woke up and threatened to break the teacher's nose. Another time I missed music class (ONCE, that was the only time I ever wagged music). He got a bit sh!tty at that, so as punishment, he tangled all the cables in the music room, and made me untangle them. Bastard. Anyways, Trea dude, my band's playing with a whole bunch of other bands in Melbourne on Cup Day. It's just a backyard gig, nothing too crash hot, but if you wanna come along, it's at 37 Miranda ave, Resivour. Starts at 12. |
Haha that's hillarious, and mean (not Kev's story, that's sad as :().
Sweet. I'm going to another party in the arvo so I might not be able to make it, but maybe :). AMEB exam today. |
Tell us how you go dude.
Josh: I'm still trying to fix my browser. *walks off swearing a lot* |
