heh, if not chessy. Don't be put off by it, its great. :) |
Also, what, to everyone was the first Dt album you bought? Mine was Scenes from a Memory about a month after it came out, then I bought Live Scenes From New York the Day it came out in the UK, which was the 14th Sept 01, I spent ages looking for a copy of Live Scenes with the "Flaming Apple" cover. But couldn't find it. I remember Scenes astonished me so much. It still is my favourite Dt album, alongside I&W and Octavarium.
Mine was also Scenes from Memory. I was obsessed with it for soooo long. It's still my favorite album of theirs. |

my first was Images and Words
and the song that got me into DT in the first place was Take The Time. my all-time favourite DT song, along with Blind Faith |
My first was Awake and I think it may be my favorite still. Or maybe I&W is, not sure.

i hate the way James screws up the song on once in a livetime :upset: he sounds terrible
The backdrop is the back cover of Images and Words, with the Pillars. Way cheesy. I think that's easily their worst live album. The Keyboards are way too loud on The Crimson Sunrise and James's singing is way off the mark. My favourite song on there is Scarred, I thought they did that well, but I've never heard any other live version. |
My first was 'The glass prison'. IMO that song would rock so much harder without vocals, but it's still awsome.

Are you joking? James's vocals are incredible on that song! One of my favourites, and the first Dt song I learned all the way through on bass. :) |

My first DT album was Images And Words and Awake. At first I prefered I&W but after more and more listens the darker and heavier sound of Awake won me over.
|
My first DT album was awake but I'm not sure what my favorite is. My favorite changes alot.
Side Note: I'm attempting to get my Gigantour ticket signed by Rudess... has anyone here gotten stuff signed by DT |

out of interest, does John Myung play any songs on 4-String bass on Images and words, or Train of thought? i'm not buying a 6-stringer just for DT stuff. although soon i'm gonna have to buy my own bass anyway, because my mate wants his bass back :upset:
|
First one I got was Images and Words, still my favorite. I find myself having trouble getting into 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence. I don't know what it is about it. I like The Glass Prison, but I feel it goes on too long. Everyone seems to love the Great Debate, but to me, it comes off as such a blatant Tool rip-off that I have a hard time enjoying it. The entire second disc just hasn't caught on to me and I've had the album for awhile. I don't know, I need to give it some more listens.
|
On the topic of first DT or whatever, my first album was Scenes From a Memory, and I still love it. :)

Here's a link to a video with Labrie. Here he is talking about Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and what it's about.

That link is a bit too small, don't ya think? :p
|
First album you BOUGHT by DT?
Can't say I have... :p The first DT album I got was 6DOIT...I have no idea what my favorite is. They're all different, and good, in their own special way. |
But few are good in every way like Images and Awake.
|
My first Dream Theater cd was Train Of Thought, followed by 6 Degrees, followed by Awake. So far Train Of Thought is still my favorite for some reason.
|
First one i bought was I&W.
|
i bought I&W and ToT at the same time, but i'd just borrowed I&W off a mate and thought it was great.
|

Just abit :) |
It didn't even work for me.
|
First full length album was Octavarium actually. Before that I had just bought singles or downloaded them.
|

He plays a 4 string for all the tracks on that album. He didn't play a 6string with Dt until the tour for that album. |
ah...
/me goes to get bass tabs. |
The solo for Metropolis is great fun. I have a JM1 Torquoise Blue signiture 6 string. Which is stunning. My second most precious thing in the world. But the only Dt songs I can't play are Dance of Eternity and Octavarium, but Octavarium because I juist haven't got round to figuring it out yet. :p And Dance of Eternity because it's stupidly timed and the bass solo is stupidly fast.
