I like slipknot, as they were one of my gateway-metal bands. And although I hardly listen them anymore due to the 500+ new cds from different artists in the past years, I'll still pop in their S/T from time to time because I think it was a solid album. Prosthetics is an amazing song.

Yes, Slipknot is a band that opened the door to other types of metal and music for me. I'm not as big of fan as i used to be, but they will always be a favorite of mine.

What do you mean not original? How many bands can you name have a drumming section, not just a drummer? The fact that Jason Becker can play his instrument better doesn't mean Mick sucks, just because John Myung is a better bassist then Ryan Martinie does that make him suck? NO! I rarely hear anyone say that Joey is amazing at drums, Almost everyone I know who is educated thinks that he is nothing special, and everyone on these boards thinks the same. And about the lyric thing, just because they talk about what they feel doesn't make them bad lyricists, it just makes you think that, but you and everyone are different people.

I don't think there is a number nine in the group, I think the numbers stop at 8, but anyway every single member of Slipknot does his part, Clown the DJ and the other percusionest do their part, they help keep the beat in some songs, deliver backing vocals, and they get the crowd going at gigs. The band needs to feed off something live, and they just help. I highly dought that you can make better music then them, you proably can't scream or sing, and if you can you proably aren't profiecient at gutiar, drums, vocals, bass, lyrics.

Anyway, Slipknot was the band that got me into metal. they were all I listened to for ages, just because I loved them so much. They are still my number 1 band, but I listen to other stuff now as well. Any sub-genre of metal is fine with me.

And I love Coreys voice. Amazing singing and screaming on his part.

It seems to me that all anyone can think of to knock Slipknot is that they wear masks (as if that effects what they sound like), they are talentless (talentless people would't be able to get a record deal) or that they aren't technical (so go listen to your technical music if thats all you want to listen to - Slipknot could be technical if they wanted to, but they don't want to make technical music)

They make music that appeals to some, and not to others.

I think bands like slipknot add a severely needed dose of creativity to the stagnant realm of metal....I try to appreciate bands being different...not this same ol' prepackaged "normal" metal fluff....Slipknot, rock on!

Slipknot... What a horrible horrible band. I mean not just from the standpoint that they suck balls musically but the fact that with each new album they get ****tier. Let me Explain:

Ok first off, there are 9 people in the band. Who the **** ever herd of 9 people in a ****ing band? Two drummers? and one who just bangs his head around for most of the time? Nobody is even a worthy musician I think they go by the "If we play loud and scream alot people wont realize we all suck" stance.

They have made three albums and havent advanced musically in any of them. They have still stayed the same screaming, ****ty band they have always been. The only thing close to musical talent in that band is the lead guitarist but still, any real metal guitarist could easily play any of there songs.

Second they are not respected by any of the metal community. I believe they have been around since the early 90's and there has never been a tribute or any one saying "I was really influenced by Slipknot" just a bunch of F A G G O T Nu Metal kids saying how metal they are. THEY ARE NOT ****ING METAL. They are complete ****. But since I am a nice person I will leave you with some examples of good solid metal:

Burzum- Burzum/Aske (EP)
Mayhem- Deathcrush
DarkThrone- A blaze in the Northern Sky
Bathory- Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Abigor- Supreme Immortal Art
Graveland-Celtic Winter

christ. No one cares about your black metal bands anyway. Stop listening to music because you think it's "cool" or "hardcore", listen to what you like. There is merit to Slipknot, strange but true. They aren't revolutionary or highly respectable; far from it. They just write decent songs here and there and there is no reason to toss that aside because the "metal community" disrespects them.

Anyway, does anyone still want to hear the re-tooling of Vermillion 2 on the underworld OST? I'll upload it again if anyone wants. It's consistently always been on my playlist for the past few weeks, it's just one hell of an improvement over the original. The instrumentals and loud/soft dynamics are, well, epic.

I don't listen to slipknot very often anymore, but, like a lot of posters here, Slipknot got me into 'heavier','extremer' music, and that is IMO the main reason why bands like slipknot should exist; without gateway-bands Metal can be a bit inaccessible, I think.

I'm pretty sure they put the masks on to copy off of Mushroomheads idea. Alot of the masks were even similar to Mushroomheads masks when they first started.

You know, I don't like Sipknot myself, but that was just dumb. Music is subjective, it's opinion. There is no "good" or "bad" music. I don't see why having alot of people in band is a bad thing, in fact, it seems a good way to make new interesting sounds. Also, about not being respected in the metal community, who cares? Nobody should listen to music just because other people do. Please grow up.
