Motorhead = speed metal.
Overkill formed before Metallica.
yes and no. motorhead was definetly an influence on thrash, but theyre more of like, Rock n roll. theyre great, but i dont think they are thrash metal. venom is sorta thrashy too, but i think metallica really came in with kill em all (Mainly the first 4 albums) and really brought thrash to a new level
I see what your saying there :thumb:

LordDargon 06-13-2004 07:33 AM

Venom are thrash. Check out the rifing in Black Metal. Pure thrash, fu.cker.
I don't think there's a solo in For Whom The Bell Tolls, and blackened is the hardest

Yeah, there is. It's just kind of, whammy abuse. You know? Like in Raining Blood, by Slayer.

That solo is so....gay.

EDIT: the song is cool though

Did I say it wasn't? I was just pointing that out, you know what I mean?

EDIT: Wait, which song? For Whom The Bell Tolls or Raining Blood?

Raining blood. The song is awesome but the solo destroys everything.
now what do you think of that?

DisposableHeroes 06-13-2004 07:44 AM

well still, regardless of me ****ing up the words its still a brilliant song

DimebagDarrell 06-13-2004 07:45 AM
to kreator:  well spotted
 that's from the toughest metallica solo thread ;)

DisposableHeroes 06-13-2004 08:16 AM

slightly off topic here, but on what slayer album do you think dave lombardo's drumming is at its best? For me its south of heaven

DimebagDarrell 06-13-2004 08:18 AM

i prefer seasons in the abyss to south of heaven but there both amazing and dave is brillaint on all albums

DisposableHeroes 06-13-2004 08:21 AM

Dave is one hell of a drummer

DimebagDarrell 06-13-2004 08:23 AM
Dave is one hell of a drummer
definatly one of the best in metal history to go a step further

DisposableHeroes 06-13-2004 08:30 AM

I think he and charlie benante were the greatest of the big four drum-wise

Kreator 06-13-2004 08:32 AM

who are the other 2 of the big four?

sensitiveorgan00 06-13-2004 08:41 AM

Megadeth and Metallica.

Kreator 06-13-2004 08:46 AM

lars ulrich? no..

Bartender 06-13-2004 09:04 AM

"The Big Four, drum-wise" just means the drumming of the Big Four thrash bands, not the top four drummers in thrash.

Kreator 06-13-2004 09:06 AM

well then...

LordDargon 06-13-2004 02:28 PM

Top 4 drummers in Thrash:

Hoglan
Lombardo
Benante
Bostaph

Toozey 06-13-2004 02:36 PM

I cant argue with that.

Corporal Compendia 06-13-2004 04:52 PM

I can.

For the most part I agree, but not ****in' Benante. I'd replace him with Jon Allen... and you know... probably Bostaph with Igor Cavelera.

So mine would look more like...

Jon Allen
Gene Hoglan
Dave Lombardo
Igor Cavelera

Destruct 06-13-2004 04:58 PM

I'd say the solo to "The Shortest Straw" is the hardest, I still have trouble with it. :upset:

Griffin_Page 06-13-2004 05:32 PM

Kreator are back, Exodus are back, Death Angel are back, Sodom are back, Megadeth are back... now we need some Anthrax, Metallica, and Slayer thrash again.

LordDargon 06-13-2004 06:24 PM

Yeah, well you have to argue with everything so stfu :)

Griffin: It sounds like Exodus are half-back. I can't comment on Death Angel. Sodom are back? I didn't know, I'll have to check it out.

And DFA should be back in a month or so.
