bob the ripper apple. 01-20-2005 02:38 PM

can some one recommend me some bands that are similiar to opeth, preferably without keyboards. by the way i've already looked into borknagar. dont really like them that much.

Bartender 01-20-2005 02:48 PM

Farmakon, maybe. A bit faster than Opeth in general, but I remember a song of theirs (that I recommended) being reviewed as "TOTAL OPETH WORSHIP 10/10" in Forced Listening. Try the song Loosely of Amoebas.

Maybe also Agalloch. A little more folky, and also a little more inaccessible than Opeth, I think. Harsher, or bleaker, maybe. Excellent though. Try The Mantle (the album).

MAthiAS 01-20-2005 02:51 PM

Can someone recommend me some grind/grindcore? I've heard some Napalm Death and think they're great. Bands/albums/songs?

Firecracker 01-20-2005 02:53 PM

Could anybody tell me a good metalcore band, not unlike Avenged Sevenfold or Unearth.

CaptainWaits 01-20-2005 03:08 PM

Carcass is really the only other grind band I know. So...

-symphonies of the sickness
-reek of putrefaction

Those are their 2 grind albums

ToRidTheDisease 01-20-2005 03:14 PM
ok let me rephrases that bands similar to iron maiden
Mister_Che 01-20-2005 03:18 PM

Brutal Truth - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses is abosolutely awesome, so just get it. Songs, if you really have to check them out first; Birth of Ignorance, Denial of Existence, Anti-Homophobe.

Also, go with the Carcass suggestions Animosity made earlier.

Chris88 01-20-2005 03:32 PM

who originally wrote spirit in the sky? there are a lot of names out there. Also what would be some good songs/ bands along this genre?

jpj 01-20-2005 03:33 PM

Norman Greenbaum wrote it I believe.

Nate22 01-20-2005 04:55 PM

I'm looking for some old thrash or heavy metal. Stuff like Anthrax, Testament, Metallica, Megadeth etc. Preferrably more obscure though, otherwise I have probably already heard it.

Also lookin for some classic rock reccomendations. At the moment I like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Deep Purple.
How obscure are you wanting? Like, would Kreator, Dark Angel, Death Angel, etc, satisfy? Or something more obscure than that?

Nate22 01-20-2005 05:05 PM

Uh, just stuff that isn't very mainstream.

Bartender 01-20-2005 05:07 PM

Well..have you heard of Dark Angel, Death Angel or Kreator?

Nate22 01-20-2005 05:48 PM

Umm, heard of them, but never actually heard them. I'll check them out though.

Bartender 01-20-2005 05:50 PM

They can do then :)

To help, recommended albums;
Kreator - Coma of Souls (and apparently Pleasure to Kill, though I've not heard it)
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence (hearsay only)
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends

Other than that, check out this thread

CaptainWaits 01-20-2005 07:14 PM

You obviously didn't read the point of this thread. It's for people to post what they want people to recommend, NOT what YOU think people will like. Read the 1st post next time instead of just posting whatever.
Read the god da.mn fu.ckin' thread rules you god da.mn morons! Fu.ckin' hell, are you all blind?

Hopefully this will catch peoples attentions about this :

you obviously don't read the thread. This is about awnsering requests, not just randomly throwing out albums/songs for no reason. And if you are going to suggest something, just don't make a list. Give justified reasons behind it to give people insentive to check it out or spark some intrest.
I think this needs to re-posted

Schizophernia, Beneath the Remains and Arise are probably Sepultura's best, just becuase they're the thrashiest of Sepultura's albums, as well as Chaos A.D, which isn't as thrashy, but it has a lot of great elements to it.

Fallen Zero 01-21-2005 03:23 PM

I recently started getting into rush. what is the best album? im gonna go with buying one first.

jpj 01-21-2005 03:26 PM

2112, Fly by Night, and Anthem of the Kings are their best.

LeperAffinity 01-24-2005 12:21 PM

I'm finally going to give Dream Theater a second chance. I want to know the best album to purchase, I don't need any single tracks. I've been hearing it's Awake, but I want to be sure.

Six Degree's Of Inner Turbulence will give you a nice variety of the different tempo's and beats they use. I'd recommend that one :)
