I bought the new Butterfly Effect yesterday.Im enjoying it alot.
I think it sounds pretty average. It sounds watered down if you ask me. Reach is probably the best song on there. I met TBE at an instore the other day and Clint Boge said the change in sound was mostly to prevent things getting stale for them. I agree that some bands need to do that, but I don't think TBE have moved in the right direction. |
This is actually my first TBE album,so i cant really compare it to their othert stuff, but i like the album.Aisles Of White and This Year are great IMO.
|
The new Butterfly Effect album is pretty good although as with all their stuff they can sound pretty generic at times. In A Memory is fantastic, as is Aisles of White and A Slow Descent (although there are a few riffs that sound like they were ripped off from Adam Jones).
The new Eskimo Joe album has been the big surprise for me this year, I never liked their sound much before as the stuff I had heard always seemed too mainstream. But their new sound is very cool, the single especially, I may even buy the album, depending on how much cash I have :upset: |
In A Memory is fantastic, as is Aisles of White and A Slow Descent
I don't like those two songs, unfortunately. From what I've seen on forums, the new TBE material seems to have a love/hate relationship with people. It's really a case of not being able to please anybody, and the older fans who dislike the new stuff, will be replaced by newer fans who love it. Anyway, I'm kind of leaning more towards the dislike side of things, which is unfortunate, but I'll always have respect for TBE. Also, has anyone else had problems with the tagging of Track 1 - Imago on Imago. Mine has some automatic thing saying it was written by Peter Fairclough, and it annoys the hell out of me. I can't change it using windows media player tag editor either, so if anyone knows how to get it tagged properly, let me know. |
My girlfriend heard a Butterfly Effect song on the radio. She said they were like a whiny Tool. I laughed, and conceded that she had a point. Of course, I've only heard half an album by them.

It sounds like it's got one of those annoying extended tags.. I'm not sure of the abilities of WMP, but try deleting the id3 tag and then put it back in again manually, that might fix it if not, Winamp or Foobar2000 can do it... |
Is there any Karnivool love in here?
I had a blast with them last week, awesome band. |
Sam, thanks. I'll give that a look at some point.
Jason, she does have a point. Mike (I think that's your name anyway, let me know if it's not), Karnivool get a lot of love from me. Awesome Nu-Metal/Hard Rock band. Probably one of the best live acts in Australia last year as well, along with Cog. They've got some incredibly catchy material, and I find that if I listen to Themata once, within the next couple of days I will have to listen to it again. |
Yeah, I've seen them just once, and they pulled out of a 2nd gig where I would have otherwise seen them.
Despite their light nu-metal sound, they are really quite technical, which doesn't really become apparent until seeing them live. Especially the bassist. I should statr using that quote button more often. |

Yeah, Jon's pretty sweet. I particularly like his use of harmonics and delay on Themata. I met him briefly outside The Zoo when I saw them tour with Cog, but I was drunk and kind of an idiot at the time. I was all like "omg 6 string bassist your awesome lololol" before proceeding to go get more money during a crappy bands set. EDIT: I just realised the Persona EP has no review on sputnik, so I'll probably do it on my upcoming 26 hour bus ride. w00t! for me having something to do. |
Im really loving the new Butterfly Effect album right now.The vocals are awesome IMO.In A Memory and Before They Knew are my favs right now
Are they good live, does anyone know?Im seeing them in a couple of weeks. |

Yeah the tickets are only $22 which is pretty cool.Ive seen Cog live, and they were amazing IMO.I doubt whether TBE will be as good.
|
So i saw TBE live last night. It was a pretty awesome show. The place i saw it had no barracade and i was right up the front in the middle.Clint had lots of interaction with the crowd, especially during A Slow Descent which was awesome, and they also came out for an encore which im 99% sure wasnt planned. The band looked like they were enjoying themselves probably more than other band ive seen.I also snagged a set list.Overall,it was a good night, well worth my $22.

The Butterfly Effect usually do encores. Glad you enjoyed the show though, peephole.
|
The Red Paintings and Butterfly Effect are coming here very soon, as in a week or two, I might have to go see them (although I haven't heard either of them).
|
psycroptic psycroptic psycroptic!!!!!! (psycroptic) lol
australian technical death metal! sorry if they have been mentioned already. they have about 20 different riffs in each song played at all speeds, and they are a treat to play on the guitar  :thumb: www.psycroptic.com check out this page for vids: http://www.youtube.com/results?search=psycroptic&search_type=search_videos |

Butterfly Effect are coming up here soon. The Red Paintings are STILL postponing their FNQ tour. |
I think the Butterfly Effect are playing here this weekend.

Haha, damn it you ruined my fun.I thought they came back out especially for us. I also forgot to mention that i while i was waiting around the club they played at i got to meet Clint (i missed the signing) and got a picture with him.He seemed very friendly and laid back. Also,im not extremely firmiliar with the band,so i didnt really know what they looked like (except Clint of course) and while i was waiting around this guy walked past and said how are you mate.I thought it was just some random, but when the band came up on stage i realised it was TBE's Guitarist which i thought was pretty funny. One more thing, has anyone thats been to shows on the Imago tour noticed various people with video cameras shooting the show in the crowd and up on stage?Maybe they plan to release a DVD or something. |
psycroptic psycroptic psycroptic!!!!!! (psycroptic) lol
\m/ I did a write up on them as well, it's just not in this thread. peephole, nice to hear you met Clint as well. I met him recently at an instore, and ended up talking with him briefly about my hometown of Mt Isa. He's a nice guy. And TBE were whispering things about a DVD on their old forums (now deleted) while they were in LA recording. They were recording the recording process, and were intending on releasing it as a bonus with Imago. Obviously, that didn't happen, so lets hope their plans for a DVD have gotten a whole lot bigger over the last couple of months. Finally, The Red Paintings scored the main article in a local free mag around here last week. There was an interesting article/interview where Jamie Barrett told how the name "The Red Paintings" came about. It's because he suffers from a condition called synesthesia, which allows him to hear colours. When he hears a piece of music he likes, he sees the colour red, and that's where the name comes from. You can read the article here if you're interested. |

How are you liking the new album now?Have your opinions on it changed? |
Nah, my opinions on it are still roughly the same. The first half of the album is much better than the second though I think, with Reach & Gone being the highlights for me. I actually started reviewing it, but I'm yet to finish it because I didn't like the direction my review was going (I was being to negative about it, for no real reason other than my own disappointment). I'll post it on sputnik when I'm happy with what I've written.

The middle is the best for me.Reach,Before They Knew and In A Memory are all great i think.Reach is actually my least favourite off the album.I actually wrote out a review but then it just dissapeared.I dont know what happened there.Pretty annoying actually. |
Hmmm, was your review a track by track review, that was missing review for the last two songs? If so, I don't mean to be offensive at all, but it would have been removed because it was pretty poorly done.
Hopefully you saved the review to your computer or something, so you can then edit and repost it easily. Anyway, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism. a) Finish your review in it's entirity before posting it. Save it to your computer and finish it at another time if you can't do it in one hit. b) Try to keep your reviews free of fanboysim. It really brings the validity of the review down if everything is 'awesome' without giving any reasoning as to why. I noticed a lot of the were said to be great and that was about it, before moving on to the next song. c) Make sure all of your spelling and grammer is correct. There was a couple of things that were a bit dodgy, and I know you had one song listed twice (Possibly Signs). Finally, read a couple of review on the site that have excellent user ratings, and use the format they followed to influence your review. It really helped to do that when I was starting out. |

Frenzal Rhomb r a great Aussie Punk band, i got their two latest albums and a couple of songs from their earleir albums. Me faverite songs by them at the moment is You need a friend, greyhound, You can't move into my house and world's ****dest cunt

ok it might be mentioned in this thread but patriarchal death machine are an adelaide based band, and theyre kind of like a hardcore/old school punk band.
they absolutely own i bought their album , familiarity breeds contempt. i advise you to to google them or wiki. |
Yeah, Frenzal Rhomb are a pretty fun band.
|
I saw them at my scout jamboree in 2001 in Sydney. Thats right. I was a scout! And Frenzal Rhomb played for us!
There was a mosh pit and everything. :p |
I was a scout too. In fact, I was going to go to the 2001 Jamboree, but I ended up having other commitments. Hehe.
|
It was pretty good actually. Killing Heidi and Lano and Woodely performed too. :)
Killing Heidi were pretty cool back in the day  |

Frenzal Rhomb are great to have a beer two. Easy listening, catchy and fun. I've never seem them live. I used to think the chorus to You Can't Move Into My House was the greatest thing ever as well.
Killing Heidi and Lano and Woodely performed too.
I remember we got Killing Heidi in Mt Isa roughly the same time as that. No Frenzal or L&W though. :( |
