Haha i missed that, so how are they not a ska band?
Not very many upbeats on the guitar. The bass lines are very complicated. They play some straight forward distorted guitar stuff. Etc.

Jessizzle 04-20-2005 05:22 PM

So, Its Third wavee.?? ( Claiming to be 4th) Its Still Ska.

skankinBassist 04-20-2005 05:24 PM

Bah! Not in my book. But what the hell! They are still in my top 5 favorite bands!
I hate it when a band puts out an amazing first album and everyone says that everything after that is crap. I see it with catch 22, Dropkick Murphys, buch of other bands too. Its probably not even fair to compare their other albums to Keasbey, that became a classic immeaditley, but Alone In A Crowd is still a very very very good cd. And as far as Dinosaur Sounds goes, everyone is getting on Ryan saying he is a horrible song writer, but he wrote a lot of the songs from AIAC. Personally, i still like Dinosaur Sounds, but everyone is writing them off too quickley i think, bands do put out albums that not everyone thinks is amazing, and they are still an incredible live band.
The difference between catch 22 and those other bands is that Catch lost its voice and creative force. Catch 22 post Thomas is a different band. They didn't just lose thomas either, they also lost the bassist ( i think). The only thing better about the new catch 22 is the horn section's skill. But that doesn't mean they write any better horn lines. Catch 22 didn't really sound like anything else before. And they maintained that in Alone in a Crowd. But Dinosaur Sounds sounds like a sublime cover bands writing their own material.

Let's Chop Cats! 04-20-2005 07:15 PM

They lost their bassist (Josh Ansley) and their trombonist (Jamie Egan) to SLM with Thomas.

Then C22 later went on to lose 2 guitarists, a lead singer, and I think a drummer.

the drummer is still the same as they have always had, but im lost as far as them losing 2 guitartsts. I thought Pat came in right after Thomas left, was there one in betweet that im not aware of?

Let's Chop Cats! 04-20-2005 07:42 PM

Comparing when I saw them they had a different guitarist. One time was maybe a year and few months ago and the time before that was like 2 years ago. It's possible it's the same guy and I'm just an idiot, but I don't remember them looking the same at all.

3qtzDrunk 04-20-2005 07:46 PM

Yea true, i think he used to have long hair and a goatee and was really shady looking, but i think he just got a haircut.

dropkick murphy's had more then one good album.

Blackout-has one or two good songs
Sing Loud, Sing Pround- awesome
Do or Die- good
Singles collections 1 and 2- Amazing

3qtzDrunk 04-21-2005 03:10 PM

I wonder what happened between Thomas and the guys from Catch 22, you can tell from some of the songs that they really dont like eachother.

Brendan 04-21-2005 04:55 PM

point out some examples would you? only thing i could see as being an example of that would be one of lines in a moment of silence goes "if you hate me so much then stop singing my songs"

Henrik 04-23-2005 02:16 PM

That is also a good example.

3qtzDrunk 04-23-2005 03:48 PM
point out some examples would you? only thing i could see as being an example of that would be one of lines in a moment of silence goes "if you hate me so much then stop singing my songs"
well, hard to impress could be one example, or rocky, ''it started with you, it ends with me'' I dunno, maybe im reading way into it, it just seems like there might be some kind of feud going on.

Kithkin 04-24-2005 08:25 AM

"I would like to know. What did I do to earn your disrespect? An overrated importance of superior intellect. The words I say are not as big but does that mean a thing. I guess that I'll just stop. Trying to impress."

Those could be taken as directed at Thomas

"I look at you and wonder what you're thinking. And what you say when I turn my back to you. Your arrogance powers your ego. You say that I don't know you but I've tried and tried and tried and I don't know what you're thinking when you look into my eyes. "

Then that seems more like a girlfriend

"Is it positive or is it negative the trend. And it's funny the way you thought of me when I thought that we were friends. I'm glad it all worked out. The way I knew it would. I'm glad that I can stop. Trying to impress."

And those sound like they are for thomas.

Then from Guilty Pleasures:

"It could've been different if the frgaments of each sentence were reminiscent of a sing-along song I sang so long ago. And still I try to smile, and still I try to laugh, just to find that peace of mind. And you know I'm gonna get what's mine. So count me in. No, count me out, because it happended again. (CHORUS) Forget about apologies, I'm not a sorry kid. So sing along with me. Same song we used to sing. "

not as negative, but probably directed towards him.

stiff_little_fingers 04-24-2005 09:22 AM

By far the best SML song is Failing Flailing

AIRIC 04-24-2005 09:37 AM

I;m so lost on this entire arguement.

A Question about catch 22 (the other catch 22)

Well I'm a pretty big catch 22 fan. you know how on ares and limewire and all that there are songs that claim to be by catch 22, but really arent? "Shadow Boxing", "Room Without a View", "More than just a friend". Do any of you know who these are by and a website i could find more about this band with? they kind of rock.

Sid 04-25-2005 04:41 PM

Room without a view? Haha. Sounds like a rip-off to me. "I know guys, how is this for a chorus?"

Room without a view, can't see out
Room without a view, GET ME OUT GET ME OUT

EDIT: I changed the words, so it's funny HAHAHAHAHA

rockisdead 04-26-2005 01:57 AM

blondie did a tune called room with a view but I dont really know catch 22 so i dunno if its the same song.

AChildAndHerLawnMower 04-26-2005 02:19 AM

I'm not sure if it's the same ones becuase I haven't heard the covers but
Extreme- Shadow Boxing
Blondie & Gravity Kills- Room without a view

It's no secret that songs on p2p networks are often mislabeled.
