I'm 16 too, but perfectly in with the London glam scene... I think you have to draw a line between hanging out with people your age and hanging out with people who are actually similar to you.

Anyway, old bands or new bands?

Old you have to check out Cinderella, Skid Row and Hanoi Rocks, newer maybe Backyard Babies, Babylon A.D., Loud N' Nasty, Crazy Lixx etc etc (to be honest I prefer the older stuff).

On the topic, there are plenty of bands who really don't like to go out and party for fear of damaging the next night's performance (I remember ZP bitching about Stratovarius wanting to be tucked up in bed by 11.30 if they had a gig the next night), but where's the fun in that?
That's cool, yeah I heard a little Hanoi Rocks and yeah Skid Row are playing my local venue soon, but yeah it's all great for you living in London :p Some of us have to make do with the Midlands :upset:, anyways cheers for the bands :thumb:

Jon 08-22-2005 09:07 AM

Meh, Birmingham seemed to have enough of a scene...

RedMorningLight 08-22-2005 09:10 AM

yeah east mids, leicester and nottingham, anyways that's for me to find out, sure it's somewhere...I guess
Get out of my thread
Get out of *my* thread

I liked the songs you uploaded, I based my statement on A Design For Life. Which is the worst song since Travis' Rain Song.

Jon 08-22-2005 02:10 PM

Which is why I may or may not have my eMule trained on their first two albums at the moment.

Generation Swine isn't so bad actually, for a pop-Nirvana-with-guitar-solos album.

I have just come into the possession of the Bowie Singles Collection and I'm in love. I completely forgot he wrote a lot of these songs and I really, really like the whole double album.

RedMorningLight 08-22-2005 02:26 PM

Kinda changing subject but whats everyones view on the The GA*GA*S and Glitterati?? I saw the Glitterati and they were pretty cool. What kind of success do you think they will have 'cause I think we need a few more proper bands like this for them to make an impact.

RedMorningLight 08-22-2005 02:34 PM

Yeah it's pretty accessible stuff too, especially the glitterati, so it is a shame. I guess the general public REALLY aren't digging stuff like that the moment.

Jon 08-22-2005 02:35 PM

They're both pretty solid bands, but they're more pop orientated. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard my glam friends mention them, they're more of pop-rock bands to be honest.

What we need is more bands like Crazy Lixx, Loud N Nasty and a more ballsier version of the Renegade Playboys.

BTW because this is my thread and I'm god and blah blah blah, everyone go out now and buy* this

Jon 08-24-2005 02:26 PM

Oh my god.

What albums.

Generation Terrorists and Gold Against The Soul, that is.

Wow.

:)

Jon 08-24-2005 02:36 PM

Not really, because I have at least 87% of the posts in it...

Its not realllly glam though.

I mean it is.

But its like britpop with eyeliner.

Jon 08-24-2005 03:03 PM

That's lies, the only thing glammer than me is a copy of the Cherry Pie LP sleeve drenched in JD with lines of ooch on it being thrown out of a penthouse window in the Hyatt House in LA, with Youth Gone Wild being played in the background whilst several scantily clad groupies mudwrestle in a giant KISS Koffin.

And I go by the name of Jon, bub.

Jon 08-24-2005 03:06 PM

Is that the one with Design For Life on it?

Because that's a really, really **** song.

Jon 08-24-2005 03:23 PM

OK.

So when did they become a ... bad band?

Maybe it was just how I remember Design For Life as the bas+ard offspring of Coldplay and Travis...

Jon 08-24-2005 03:38 PM

Upoo more like :(

Jon 08-24-2005 03:48 PM

So, glam eh?

Don't Never Leave Me vs Don't You Ever Leave Me
(the version on Bangkok Shocks... vs the version on Two Steps...)

Jon 08-24-2005 03:55 PM

Amateur.

Jon 08-24-2005 04:00 PM

Its funny you should say that, because I was explaining to some Irish fag earlier that its my thread...

Jon 08-24-2005 04:04 PM

I hope that was a finger.

God.

Hanoi Rocks are such an eargasm.

I love them so much.

Jon 08-24-2005 04:05 PM

tough cookies Mikey, I'm off to bed :P

morrissey 08-25-2005 12:05 PM

I didn't read the thread but 70s glam is classy.

New York Dolls, T. Rex, Roxy Music (of course), and who could forget David Bowie.

Pure class and sass, laddies.

Glitterati 08-25-2005 12:07 PM

I never got into Roxy Music, really. Maybe I just need to hear more of their stuff.

Bowie, on the other hand, is one of my all-time favorites.

morrissey 08-25-2005 12:16 PM

Really? I prefer Roxy to Eno solo. (Even though they aren't similiar at all)

Have you ever heard any of Bryan Ferry's solo work?

Glitterati 08-25-2005 12:23 PM
Really? I prefer Roxy to Eno solo. (Even though they aren't similiar at all)

Unfortunately, no :(

Jon 08-25-2005 02:38 PM

I have to listen to Roxy, they sound right up my street.

At the Hard Rock in London you can touch the guitars...and if you go downstairs in the giftshop there's a whole vault..I played Hendrix, Cobain, SRV etc's guitars

NP: Hanoi - Malibu Beach Nightmare

Jon 08-25-2005 03:20 PM

I was 13 at the time, it was great.

The ending of Civil War is pure genius. The way the piano comes in..heh.

NP: Kix - Cold Blood

poliëster 08-25-2005 05:42 PM
the best glam rock band was motley crue. and they weren't very good.
Jon 08-25-2005 06:36 PM

lol.

NP: nothing, actually.

I just burnt Electric Warrior so ima take that and listen to it through my hifi with my nice headphones.

I might put a DVD on in the background or something too.

Jon 08-29-2005 06:17 AM

Christ, someone post something.

So ahem, basically last night was a bit of a disaster (I need a new ID, in short).

Things to point out:
> Dave Playboy (from the Renegade Playboys) came up to me and said hi, I didn't recognise him, because a little JD had passed through my throat by that point. That was quite cool, being recognised by someone who's pseudo-famous.
> I saw Herman from Dragonforce, he remembered me, so my pass for the tour coming up should be in order
> The Devonshire Arms in Camden has this poster on the ceiling. I happened to look up on the ceiling and there I was, out of the whole pub, sitting under Michael Monfuckingroe's mug. I need that poster. I neeeeed it.

NP: Hanoi Rocks - Dead By X'Mas

I've set myself a mission of downloading every single Hanoi Rocks photo on the internet.

The ones I've picked up today:
http://www.glampunk.org/hanoi/images/
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y46/hanoi60/hanoi4.jpg
http://www.angelsinexile.i12.com/hanoi/miki/mikihrf5.jpg
ok i have tons I'm not linking them all but I'll make an album on my photobucket or something.
