does anyone know why brad wilk changed his drumming style when he went to audioslave? he used to play really good for rage, but he dosent play that good for audioslave.

CaptainWaits 01-07-2005 11:34 PM

I wouldn't really say he changed his style so much, they're very similar

SeAmoNKeY 01-08-2005 12:27 AM

His use of the bass drum has definitely gotten simpler and i think hes become a lot more boring. But, hey hes still pretty good. And he switched from Zildjians to Paiste's!

flea_otherside 01-08-2005 07:59 AM

The whole band has developed their playing in Audioslave. I have a feeling that Tom, Brad and Tim are playing more for the songs, which are now amost all the time built up by chord progressions and not by riffs as almost all the time in RATM. And when I look at the songs they've written, I think they play them quite perfect. Look at Like a Stone. Simple drumming, but it sounds just right. The bass is also really simple. And still I think the bass in the verses is some of the greatest stuff Tim's done. The guitar sounds awesome aswell. Combined with Cornell's great vocals it sounds just perfect in my opinion.

far from perfect but quite good none the less. All in all we can't forget that Audioslave was not intended to pick up where Rage left off. Its something completely new all together. but now NO MORE AUDIOSLAVE TALK!.

The interview was very funny indeed. I actually had no idea that Morello had a sense of humour, but thats great that he does.

I'll ask this question again, since no one responded earlier. Does anyone have the Live and Rare album? If so what do you think about it and where did you get it?

My brother has it and it's really good. He got it probably 3 or 4 years ago though so I don't know where he found it.

Darkness 01-08-2005 12:23 PM
Where did you find that interview? Anyways, good job on it. :thumb:
Heh, thanks. I found it on an old RATM site about a year ago...I just stuck it in my favorites knowing someone else would want to see it someday.

I know for sure that Morello has changed his style to adapt to Cornell. He uses far less effects, and his riffs aren't as fun to listen to/play. I think that maybe Cornell is castrating Morello as a guitar player. Bad Christopher! :smash:

Due to the fact that Chris was in Soundgarden, I think that the former members of RATM changed their style to sound like a mix between RATM and Soundgarden, creating another mediocre post-grunge band. :upset: Again, I must say bad Christopher!

I wouldn't say Audioslave is Neo-Grunge.

I found this F.A.Q. about RATM to be quite interesting. Lots of wierd things I didn't know were in there. It is fairly lengthy, but worth the read.
I wouldn't say Audioslave is Neo-Grunge.
I would.

opeth_oasis 01-08-2005 11:48 PM

RATM are one of my favourite bands, Zak De La Rocka is bloody awesome, one of my favourite singers. I love Tom Morellos extra long strings, very cool. What genre would ou say RATM was? I'd say Fusion/Alternative

lunch998 01-08-2005 11:49 PM

Rap/rock.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-08-2005 11:51 PM
What genre would ou say RATM was?
Music.

Rasta Rocker 01-09-2005 12:07 AM

funk fusion

opeth_oasis 01-09-2005 12:29 AM

it really sucked that they broke up, especially they did so just before the Big Day Out, i bought tickets just to see them!

That sucks! My condolences :upset:

At least you were into them when they were still making music. My friend just got me into them about three months ago.

Rasta Rocker 01-09-2005 12:44 AM

yeah ive just been recently getting into them, especially cause im a bass player, i love playing their music

opeth_oasis 01-09-2005 01:07 AM

its awesome fun to play, i love playing Killing in The Name of's solo, sounds awesome witht he correct amount of Wah. I don't care to much for audioslave, but they are not a bad band, just not my thing.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-09-2005 02:16 AM

i didnt mind audioslave's album, but i thought some of the tracks were pretty poor.

hammet_ownz 01-09-2005 04:58 AM

yeah agreed, theyre probably the funnest band to play if u r a bassist. the way the bass excentuates the guitar and drum line, fantastic. i just love playing the bombrack solo, especially on double bass, sounds fantastic.

flea_otherside 01-09-2005 06:38 AM

It's hard to put RATM under a certain genre. I'd say rap/funk/rock. NOT fusion.

Six Foot Revolver 01-09-2005 06:57 AM

On subject; Someone told me RATM were nu metal once. i got pretty annoyed. But.. are they? i still call it Hard Rock.

Thor 01-09-2005 10:17 AM
to quote flea_otherside, "It's hard to put RATM under a certain genre"
If I was forced to classify them, I would say that they fall under the "awesome" genre.

Arucard 01-09-2005 10:31 AM

Id probably call em Rap Metal tbo...

NuGgEt123 01-09-2005 10:45 AM

yeah they are rap metal, sadly... because that puts them in the same genre as limp bizkit and the likes...wow i can't believe this thread is still going O.o

Darkness 01-09-2005 12:15 PM

There not really metal though...and limp biz would be something like rap nu-metal.

munky_magik 01-09-2005 12:30 PM

I think that most people will see them as different things and define genres differently.
Each to their own :)

Darkness 01-09-2005 01:03 PM

What...that doesn't make any sence...there nothing like nu-metal they were just out at the same time...

munky_magik 01-09-2005 01:11 PM
What...that doesn't make any sence...there nothing like nu-metal they were just out at the same time...

they're also one of the fathers of nu-metal though, even though they're not a nu-metal band
He means that they're not nu-metal but they influenced nu-metal artists.

So, who here has heard roll right off Bulls On Parade? Possibly the simplest but best riff ever invented.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-09-2005 02:38 PM
If I was forced to classify them, I would say that they fall under the "awesome" genre.
Very well put. RATM is a band that you can't really classifie, due to their varying styles. Sort of like Pink Floyd. We can put both of those bands under the "awesome" genre.

Darkness 01-09-2005 02:42 PM
So, who here has heard roll right off Bulls On Parade? Possibly the simplest but best riff ever invented.
You meen Roll Right off of Evil Empire, and I'm sure we've all heard it.
