I'd say a denim or army jacket are easy to customise, leather would look better. Although I'm doing an army-style jacket, and it looks pretty good so far.

what sort of paint or ink should you use if you're silk screening a leather jacket so it doesn't wash off?

accrilyics(sp*), then iron set the paint, if you pick at it it might come off it dont put a thin layer, i havent done this but you could try puting a peice of transparent paper over it and melt it on
