Sure.

Badmoon 04-02-2004 07:09 PM
Speaking of The Who, I've been listening to "Live At Leeds" a lot recently. Classic.
Yeah, "A Quick one While He's Away" makes that album in my opinion, and "Magic Bus", especially the first time Pete comes in with the backing vocals. :)

B0nz0 04-02-2004 08:12 PM

ok on the rolling stone guitarist thing, i was a little ticked at the omission of satriani and vai. and cobain was way too high. eddy van halen was way too low. robby krieger was too low as well...

Badmoon 04-02-2004 08:15 PM

^ I don't care for Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, ect, because they are basically imating a style of another, with the exception of Malmsteen. There is no doubt that they have talent, but I don't find that they revoloutionized anything.

B0nz0 04-02-2004 08:26 PM

o and on the subject of the who, i greatly enjoy who's next and tommy. both classic albums.

i think my favorite members of the who are def keith moon and john entwine, or in otherwards the dead ones. when they found pete looking at kiddy porn that was a sad day for music. do any of you happen to know who played keyboards and horns on tommy?

deftoned 04-02-2004 08:49 PM

^ No, he was cleared of that. He's not a child pornographer, just wait for the book to come out.

Badmoon 04-02-2004 08:53 PM

Pete did some of the piano work on Tommy, and Entwistle did most of the horn work on Tommy also.

B0nz0 04-02-2004 09:18 PM

i wish moon and entwistle weren't dead . . .

Badmoon 04-02-2004 09:48 PM

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr should team up with Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey, and record some tracks, that'd be sweet

RockAndRoll 04-02-2004 11:23 PM

I'm really curious to know what the next work morrisson would have done and the next work zeppelin would have done would have turned out more than anything. Morrison just because of the whole fuss around him before his death wonder how that would've turned out and Zeppelin because i heard they're next album was to be a rockier sound as they had in there first few albums, apparently they felt their newer stuff was becoming to polished. Now ofcourse there are others i wish had never passed aways and who i'm sure would have come out with more great music but those two i'd be the most interested to hear, whether or not they turned out to be the best.

BludgeonySteve 04-02-2004 11:23 PM

I would like that. But it will never happen.

Edit: to badmoon. Hmmm well this post could work for rockandroll as well.

Badmoon 04-02-2004 11:43 PM

Here's some big news for Classic Rock fans

The remaining members of The MC5 are going on tour, and to replace to two dead members (Smith and Tyner), they got Mark Arm from Mudhoney to play rythm guitar and sing. Now it won't be as great as The MC5 would have been if they had all the members, but I love Mudhoney, and I'll bet the tour will be great.

deftoned 04-03-2004 12:44 AM

Rumours are the MC5, Stooges (w/Iggy) and the Pixies to tour Australia doing the national Livid Tour in October..The Who are touring here in July!

Badmoon 04-03-2004 01:33 AM

^ Yes to promote their new album :)

The MC5, The Stooges, and The Pixies should be great. Even though The MC5 are missing Smith and Tyner. I also don't really see where The Pixies fit into that mix.

Member - John Paul Jones (SOOOOOOOOOO underated)

Song - bron yur a stomp, the song remains the same, in the evening

Album - houses of the holy

Thoughts - complete perfection in my mind.

deftoned 04-03-2004 02:34 AM

Badmoon349: No they're not touring together, but as part of a big annual music festival in Aust every year :thumb:

When I was 13, I got on the band wagon, meaning Nirvana, Marcy Playground, etc. I'm not proud of it, but it happened. When I turned 15, I got AC/DC's Back in Black. It completely changed my life. 4 years later, I've collected every AC/DC album, numerous Who albums, Zeppelin, Rush, Van Halen... the list goes on. I've converted many of my friends, who no realize the error of their rap loving ways.

As the great frontman Brian Johnson once scribed:

~Rock and roll ain't noise pollution, rock and roll will never die~

He sounds like a dying cat but meh. I like him anyway :thumb:

Badmoon 04-03-2004 01:09 PM

^ That's what I say about Robert Plant whenever he screams,

jimmypumpkin 04-03-2004 01:50 PM

Haha, yeah Plant's voice is always either hit or miss for me. Sometimes I can't stand his voice, but sometimes I love it. I love his voice on the first album, but I'm not really a fan of it on the later albums.

BludgeonySteve 04-03-2004 02:34 PM

I like Robert Plant when he stays within his own range! Stairway to heaven is good singing.

B0nz0 04-03-2004 03:07 PM

going to california is quite good as well.

i'd love to see the who, even without entwistle and moon.

Badmoon 04-03-2004 03:12 PM

I saw them without Moon and Entwistle. They use various bassists, but they have Zach Straky as their drummer.

jimmypumpkin 04-03-2004 03:27 PM

^^^^^

Who's Ringo Star's son, right?

Badmoon 04-03-2004 03:44 PM

^ That is correct

-Great bassist
-Keyboards
- Mandolin on Battle of evermore :thumb:x1000
-Nice backup vocals.

I'm sure there is more but the guy was awesome.

Badmoon 04-03-2004 04:02 PM

^ I wouldn't exactly call him a musical genius. He is slightly overrated. Being able to play a few instruments doesn't make you a genius, but none the less he was a great or atleast satisfactory musician.

Stand up bass on "bron yur a stomp".

To me, his Keyboards/Bass lines enhance LZ's music like no other. ive told several of my friends to listen to their favourite LZ album and focus on JPJ and afterwards they all had a new respect for him. his knowledge of the neck and his speedy style of rock/blues bass is one not found in music often today. as for his Keyboards, i think his stlye inspired alot of the keyboard works in the 1980's electronic type rock bands.

Anyone into his solo work, i saw him on his "Zooma tour 00'" and it was fasntastic!!!!!!! I loved it, also his "thundertheif" album is remarkable, he sings on here as opposes to Zooma. I have an expeneive Vynal of his 1985 movie-record "scream for help" with guest features Jimmy Page and Yes' Jon Anderson. John Paul Jones is one of my biggest inspirations. :thumb:

EDIT: JPJ was a very, very important piece in the Led Zeppelin puzzle.
James Gang, haven't heard of them. Better go illegaly download some of their songs.

is he better than his daddy? i love ringo, but he was just a pretty good drummer, i wouldn't let him fill the shoes of keith moon...

Badmoon 04-03-2004 11:29 PM

Zach is pretty good, I wouldn't say he's better than Keith, He has a much different style than Ring, so that is hard to say.

B0nz0 04-03-2004 11:29 PM

john paul jones is great, but so was everyone in that band.

i got tickets to see the doobie brothers in july!!

and are there any creedence fans here? CCR was what first got me into music. i love down on the corner, traveling band, suzie q, fortunate son, up around the bend, midnight special, born on the bayou, heard it thru the grapevine, proud mary, bad moon, and of course green river, just to name a few..

well ringo always kept it simple, which i actually find to be a good thing in many cases, look at phil rudd of ac/dc. his simple playing greatly enhances the music. and if it doesn't add to the music, it takes away...

BludgeonySteve 04-03-2004 11:39 PM

I just listened to some Allman brothers (hittin the note, eat a peach and beginings). They are now in my top 10 favorite bands of all time :D. Wow i'm just blown away... Too good for words (more words that is).

Yeah, CCR are great. They are heavy influenced by Bluegrass, and that would be the best genre to be influenced by in my opinion.
