what do ya mean save money theres shipping and handling but I don't noe about the store ur getting it from but the store where the drum stuff i want doesn't charge ppl for special ordering stuff...
but your still going to have to put money down on it. everything is cheaper over the internet.

i can almost gaurentee that your shop would be able to match prices like those found on musiciansfriend or massmusic (unless is a huge chain)

as for paying shipping on the net, you'll have to pay taxes at the store. take your pick.

i need a good splash cymbal to compliment my china i want it to sound realy washy, and i also would like if it were easy to hit because some of my other cymbals are like rocks. what type of splash should i look for?

ben_staples 01-23-2005 03:30 PM

Just seen a good deal (50% off) on some Zildjian ZXT 14 inch Solid Hi Hats.
Would this be worth the upgrade from my cheap and nasty CB hats made from bean tins?

try a 12" AA Splash. or for a darker sounding alternative, a 12" Hand Hammered splash.

though they are better than those Cb hats, you should hold off, because in the long run, you'll want to upgrade those....save yourself money and time, just get good hats later.

Suppose I can wait few months and get the Zildjian A Custom 15 inch Mastersound hi hats I was creaming over in the shop :)
Then I'll need a new stand, and some cymbals, and some more stands, and a base pedal...

goes on and on :-/

groomits 01-23-2005 06:58 PM
as far as splashes go , could could try an 8 or 10 " k custom...i have the 8 and it sounds just like that, fast decay and not really bright ...but i doubt think the term cutting describes it...so maybe the 10 would be better....as far as a china, id say go wuhan, 12" its def not too loud but cuts through just fine.
I did what you said and I bought a 12'' wuhan china. New for 10$ on ebay, I coudn't do nothing

and for the splash, I'll go try some next week

Bobby: Unfortunately im selling my 14" groove hats that you liked so much... Also going on ebay is my 16 inch stage crash. Both sound great but are just not my style unfortunately. As my drumming skills have progressed, my ability to know what a good cymbal sounds like has also progressed. Fortunately, I will be sticking with the 18" HHXtreme crash I purchased last year. The HHXtreme sounds killer and I wont need a china cuz it's really trashy!

FIRST AND FOREMOST:My favorite kinds of music are metal and rock and I really like to groove and play funky technical beats on the hi-hat and ride. I really like the way Danny Carey/Mike Portnoys set ups sound, and I want to be able to be as technical with my hats as David Garibaldi can be on his. I just need cymbals that sound good and that if a crowd of random people heard them, they would think they sound great as well.

I am not totally set on the hi hats and crash I am about to list so If you think they sound bad or a different crash/hi-hat pair would sound better for my playing style, just let me know. Cliff Notes: Tell me if these cymbals actually sound good or if it's just me

The hi-hats I really like are Zildjian K 13" Mastersounds. I have only heard them on Ziljians website but they sound great. Any comments on these would be helpful.

The crash I Really like is the Zildjian K 16" Thin Dark Crash (Brilliant).

Any comments on those cymbals would be helpful.

What I need is a Ride, not dark or dry but again, something that is very versatile and that anyone can enjoy the sound of. Preferably something from Zildjian. Also, Help me find a couple more crashes and some Effects cymbals.

Thanks guys for ANY help! Cant wait to get my new cymbals.

llama123 01-25-2005 01:02 PM

^ The cymbals you mentioned above and very, very nice sounding plates. For rock and metal though, particularly the K Thin crash, I don't think they would hold up very well for your application. They cost a lot of money those things do so you wouldn't want to break them I am asure. If your technique is ok, you should be fine with medium thins (still amazing cymbals). Having that said, I think you would be safe with the Mastersounds (14" would be my preference though :)). The sound clips on Zildjian's website, besides not being accurate, severly let them down; whatever you do - try them out at your drum store first before purchasing anything!

Thanks,
Tom

ScMc 01-25-2005 01:04 PM

Yah I will definately try every pair of hi-hats that store has, haha, But I will check out the K's first. Thanks a lot. Any more comments would be appreciated.

Murd_666 01-25-2005 04:17 PM

for a ride maybe an A Ping or an A "Sweet" ride. For something from sabian an AA medium Ride would do the trick....

Flyin' Brian 01-25-2005 04:22 PM

The Sweet Ride rules! I am not a Travis Barker fan, for the record. I went to the Woodwind and Brasswind store in South Bend, IN to replace my crappy ZBTs and I found a nice low pitched Sweet Ride that I just fell in love with. It's more defined than I would have thought, but it also has a nice wash for a good full sound that I believe a ride cymbal *should* have. It's got a nice bright bell, and you could even use it as a monster crash if you wanted to...

DruMMeR_BoY14 01-25-2005 05:50 PM

Haha yeah go Atom Willard from the Offspring style!

Bryan Blakey 01-25-2005 05:52 PM

What would you guys reccommend for jazz cymbals? I haven't ever really looked for cymbals except when I first got my drums and bought my B8's, now that I have a job I can save up to get 1 or 2 nice jazz cymbals, I'm thinking a ride and a crash, and eventually some hats. So what would you guys reccommend?

Oh, and I want the ride to be pretty heavy with a lot of wash, probably 22" if possible. And for the crash, 18"-20" and pretty dark. So whatever you guys can reccommend would be great, thanks.

Plan B. 01-25-2005 06:04 PM

Check out a Constantinople Medium ride.

22" K Custom High Definition Ride
20" or 22" K Custom Dry Light Ride
any K Constantinople rides
Try the new sabian manhatten jazz cymbals for your jazz taste and for the dark crashes try AAX dark crashes, HH Dark crashes or K Custom Dark crashes....

Flyin' Brian 01-25-2005 06:57 PM

^^Travis Barker PLAYS a Sweet Ride. Some reviews I've seen on wwbw.com are to the effect of "Travis plays it, so it must be awesome!" My point was that's not why I chose the Sweet Ride. And to DruMMeR BoY, Atom Willard \m/ \m/

Murd_666 01-25-2005 07:02 PM

oic i just like it i never knew travis played it...but meh i'm not a fan of travis anyways...

MXicanDrummer 01-25-2005 07:20 PM

I'm saving up for a revamp of my cymbal set-up. I play punk and rock so i figured the zildjain A's would fit best. So, seeing as I have yet to be able to test them for myself, what are your opinions on these cymbals?

Zildjian 22" A Custom Ping Ride
Zilldjian 13" Advedis Mastersound Hihat
Zildjian 18" Medium Crash

GooseFilms.net 01-25-2005 09:50 PM

i just won a 20" K Custom Ride off EBay, $178 US, itl get here next week
cant wait :)

sublimeisnice 01-25-2005 11:45 PM

^^^ awesome, i always shop ebay for deals...i won a 19"a custom crash for like 150 a couple days ago.

FockerTheLopper 01-26-2005 08:21 AM

I'm looking for a fast reacting crash thats not too washy and pretty full bodied. Price isn't really important but I want it to be a Zildjian. Something similar to a Z medium 17''

ilikenoise 01-26-2005 09:19 AM

^ 17" A Custom Medium

i'd go with an A Zildjian or AA Medium-thin crash....not as powerful as a Z Custom Medium, but it will have the speed your looking for.

hey, if the sound clip appeals to you, you should go find a pair to hear in person.

maybe try the 13" HHX Groove Hats (i know your selling 14s now)
The crash I Really like is the Zildjian K 16" Thin Dark Crash (Brilliant).
maybe try a Hand Hammered Medium Crash...given the typse of music your playing, this would be a more suited choice.

Maybe the good ol' 22" A. Medium Ride?
