I'm going to have to agree with Paranoidd. The fanboyism around here is nauseating.

My choices-

Rob Halford: Only mentioned by three people in here. What's wrong with some of you people? Rob was and is the voice of Judas Priest with exceptional range, control, and sustain and a healthy dose of metal charisma. Remember, it was Rob who invented the look of Judas Priest and in turn gave us the standard dress code of metal. I know some of you are going to bitch that that's insignificant, but being a trendsetter in any way, shape, or form is a major accomplishment in itself.

Bruce Dickinson: I think Bruce's greatness has been accurately summed up already.

Freddie Mercury: Same as above.

Ronnie James Dio: Say what you want about the subject matter of his songs, that man has got balls. Not to mention he has noe of the best preserved voices in metal. He may be egotistical, but he has the talent and charisma to back it up.

Axl Rose of GNR
Justin Hawkins of The Darkness
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin
David Lee Roth of Van Halen
and,
Kurt Cobain, the man who shot himself who is also the man who made the most influence on the musical industry.

severed_heaven 12-03-2004 08:30 AM

Billy Corgan for me.

dUSK 12-03-2004 08:31 AM

Maynard James Keenan [tool]
Zack De La Rocha [Rage Against the Machine]
Kurt Cobain [Nirvana]
Robert Plant [Led Zeppelin]
James Hetfield [Metallica]

They're all great

mrmint17 12-03-2004 11:46 AM

Here's my list (in no particular order):

-Johnny Rotten
-Steven Tyler
-Scott Weiland (maybe not greatest ever, but still good)
-Zach de la Rocha
-James Hetfield
-Billie Joe Armstrong

Veggie530 12-03-2004 11:57 AM

Ozzy, Hetfield, Steven Tyler...and....hmm....I'm lost after that.

jackirons 12-04-2004 04:55 AM

axl from guns, eddie veder from pearl jam, zack from ratm, layne from alice in chains, bono from U2, but the best has to be mike patton from bands such as faith no more, tomahawk and mr. bungle.

I_Love_JimmyPage 12-04-2004 05:10 AM

Rorbert Plant from the mighty Led Zeppelin...he was not only a great frontman with a great presence, but also had the greatest vocals...and such sex appeal, for us women, and some men probably hehe...
Also, Maynard James Keenan from Tool and A Perfect Circle, hes so verstile and his act on stage live is incredibly remarkable.

There are a few good ones out there, but honestly Billie Joe is probably the best, if not of all time, at least from my generation. He is the best stage performer of all time and refuses to do crap unless he wants to, but he's not a jerk about it like some other ones, like Mick Jagger or Kurt Cobain although they too were amazing frontmen. Axl Rose and ALL of Van Halen were the biggest jerks about stuff though, I just can't believe they stuck around as long as they did treating their fans and everybody else the way they did. Joey Ramone is also pretty good. If you guys haven't heard of him, Billy Bones is a bad *** front man, he's in a Los Angeles based hard punk band called The Skulls, they've been around since the '70 although he's not even an original member, his friend formed it and had him come in and everybody loved him, he's actually the oldest member of the band because his friend passed away years ago. Anyway, you should all check them out, they're on Dr. Strange Records, you can find their stuff at the store or online at DrStrange.com which also has many other great bands and merchandise like some bad *** clothes.

-Tom

PS I almost forgot how bad *** Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo is. It's funy because he's a total nerd but he just leads a crowd like it's nobody's business, and he does everything in that band except for drums and bass, he'll occassionally play guitar and he plays the keyboard a lot, go check out some of there stuff, you can also buy it at Dr Strange Records.

My favourite frontmen are;

Matt Bellamy - Muse; He's so energetic and plays guitar and sings flawlessly well together. He's just so eccentric and awesome with his dancing and jumping around. His live voice is phenomenal too.

Maynard James Keenan - Tool/APC; Great live voice, the stuff he wears and dresses up in, and his tribal dancing and such to the music, very interesting to watch, lol.

Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth; He's really dry and funny, which I appreciate. Also plays a mean guitar, and his dual vocal styles, very cool frontman.
