all of you suck by thinking that only GOOD songs have verses, choruses, bridges, and a WILD and CRAZY solo in it. by creative for once!
Please listen to one of Alex Lifeson's solos and say that again please.
Kurt never thought he was good. He prolly knew he wasnt all that good. He didnt care what everyone else thought. If he liked it, it was good enough. And it was a good thing that he never tried to do some hendrix solo...they would never fit the songs. and for the people that said he couldnt play guitar to save himself...look at where he was...and look at where you are....he must of been decent. huh?
i would say lucky more than decent

INRI 11-29-2004 10:52 PM

although nirvana is pretty good, you have to admit the talent in that band was in dave grohl.

kurt was extremely original in all of his songs, and not many of them song alike, but a decent player could learn any one of his songs in a matter of minutes. not that im any better or worse than he is or that any of the **** i write sounds better than his (they dont, trust me) but you have to admit his songs arent terribly hard or complicated to play (including his solos)

INRI 11-29-2004 10:54 PM

he may have been an extremely talented player, but none of it showed through in his songs

Guitardude11208 11-30-2004 03:25 PM

Resurrection by Risen. It's only 3 or 4 notes for around 30 seconds and its my band.

bassman9985 11-30-2004 03:44 PM

Dream Theater has some greats, like "Under A Glass Moon", but also some of the most atrocious solos this side of Slayer.

I promise you that "Stream of Conciousness" will have the worst electric guitar solo you've ever heard.. until you hear "In the Name of God".

What in the name of God what was he thinking..? "Oh, this will be a clever and tasteful melody that's appropriate for the song." Obviously not. Perhaps it was more like, "Gotta show them how skilled I am.. gotta show them how skilled I am.."

Either way, it turned out to be the least musical thing any of us will ever hear.

RaTm_FaN 11-30-2004 04:07 PM

ok i havent seen this fred durst solo....so where did he do this was it like at a music award show or something....i need to dl this so i can see it!!!! someone please tell me where he did this.

bassman9985 12-01-2004 06:17 PM
someone please tell me where he did this.
I'd like to know, too. Was it a large venue?

I guess it was spelling for you huh?

KARMAPOL1CE 12-01-2004 07:06 PM

I'd have to say the solo on Deep Purple's Highway Star. Ritchie basically just abuses the whammy bar for 30 seconds.
rush's solos are played on one string to
Having been to 2 Rush concerts, both in front row in front of Alex, and an avid Rush cover guitarist, I can safely say that is not the case.
yea it was like the 100 worst guitar riffs and they filled up the top ten i think
wouldnt suprise me. skinny bop, definately worst solo

linkotim 12-01-2004 08:47 PM

the solo for smells like teen spirit sucks
its just the tune that he sings, arranged for guitar... that takes no skill watsoever

real4253 12-01-2004 08:50 PM

"youth of the nation" POD tries to do a solo

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is like one of the best deep purple solos. And then its good!

ArcLite 12-02-2004 05:55 AM

Yeah I love that solo...and it's fast as hell tapping he uses, not his ****ing wammy bar.

plasticspoon 12-02-2004 06:00 AM

Probably one of blink 182's two note repeating solos. sorry people!

albert_bass 12-02-2004 08:51 AM

Dead kennedy's - Riot

I just can't stand that solo, but the song kicks *** (strange things)

Anarchy for the UK 12-02-2004 09:30 AM

even if rush's solos are played on 1 string (which i seriously doubt) does it really matter if it sounds good?

Bass_ment 12-02-2004 09:56 AM

Anyone else think that having long threads on subjective things like guitar solos is just a waste of time?

unclebobscircus 12-02-2004 10:19 AM
I'd have to say the solo on Deep Purple's Highway Star. Ritchie basically just abuses the whammy bar for 30 seconds.
I hope this is sarcasm. That was the fastest solo ever until Eddie Van Halen became famous in the late 70's. He barely uses the whammy bar at all.
Anyone else think that having long threads on subjective things like guitar solos is just a waste of time?
Not me. Guitar solos are an integral part of many bands and songs, and discussing them is one of the things this forum is around for. You're just jealous because bassists don't get enough credit :p

The_Axeman 12-02-2004 10:41 AM

i'd say it's the solo Jack Black plays in "school of rock", when he and the kids are playing "smoke on the water".

it sounds terrible, but he's got ****ing attitude so that doesn't matter at all.

So we agree to disagree.

At least admit that Jon Lord's keyboard solo was insanely good.

The only people who play piano anymore are Jamie Cullum and They Might Be Giants :p

EDIT: Just a wee bit of exaggeration

And we both know how popular They Might Be Giants are.

Worst Solo

The solo on Slipknot-Pulse of the Maggots. It's just a jumble of ****, it actually makes me laugh every time I hear it. I don't think they should try solos anymore...
