sounds good.
- im not much of an extreme metal guy myself, the heaviest i go is dream theater im afraid :(

Bartender 08-17-2004 05:59 AM

Well I listen to most kinds of music so I'm sure there'll be some things we agree on. I have been known to listen to Dream Theater, for example.

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 06:59 AM

I don't get Black Metal.

Bartender 08-17-2004 07:00 AM

How do you mean?

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 07:07 AM

I just woke up, it was a random comment.

I dunno what it is...I appreciate Black Metal, but I can't get into it.

Bartender 08-17-2004 07:11 AM

Well, what black metal have you heard so far?

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 07:43 AM

Dimmu Borgir, COB, Opeth...

Is there better stuff I'm missing?

Bartender 08-17-2004 07:50 AM

Well, Dimmu are at the mainstream end of symphonic black metal, and CoB play power metal, just with harsh vocals. There is a lot of other stuff out there; I don't know if you'd like it, but it's different, so should be worth checking out.

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 07:52 AM

Can you recommend something?

manuscriptreplica 08-17-2004 07:58 AM

Ooh boy...

Opeth isn't black, it's death. Progressive death at that. Children of Bodom are not a good band to represent the genre of black metal, they are probably more power metal than anything else. If you think Dimmu Borgir are good, I suggest stuff like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Bathory, Gorguts, Immortal etc etc. I'm not a big black metal head, so ask someone else.

Toozey 08-17-2004 07:59 AM

Hello, I'm Toozey I post here sometimes.

I could, but I'm not too hot on black metal. My black metal listening, so far anyway, spread about as far as Burzum or Immortal. For Immortal, check out anything from At The Heart of Winter - it's not ultra-raw, tr00 black metal, but it's a great album and probably a good introduction. If you want the true stuff, check out Mayhem - songs like Freezing Moon, Funeral Fog and Pure Fucking Armageddon.

Good symphonic black metal are bands like Emperor, and older Arcturus, but I haven't taken the time to check them out properly yet. Superpeer or Per Ardua should be along soon enough, they could give you more, and better, recommendations :)

EDIT: Good as Gorguts are, I don't think they're black metal.

Baodegoth 08-17-2004 08:01 AM

what's the biggest diference between black and death metal? i'm confused...i know what's melodic death metal...and i like some bands (at the gates is frekin awesome!) but i can't seem to "separate" black from death. n e 1?

manuscriptreplica 08-17-2004 08:01 AM

Emperor are good too, more along the lines of symphonic black metal.

manuscriptreplica 08-17-2004 08:03 AM

Baodegoth - read the very first thread entitled 'The different genres of black metal' it's right at the top of the page, you can't miss it.

Baodegoth 08-17-2004 08:06 AM

^LOL...thanks...the thing is i've already read that and still....i don't know..it's probably just me...but i'll check it again...thanks for the tip;)

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 08:08 AM

Hrmm..

I like Vader...what genre would they fall under?

Bartender 08-17-2004 08:10 AM
^LOL...thanks...the thing is i've already read that and still....i don't know..it's probably just me...but i'll check it again...thanks for the tip;)
If you've read it, and are still confused, downloading a few songs from each suggested band, and listening to the difference, is the way to go.

Baodegoth 08-17-2004 08:13 AM

thanks bartender i'll do that..

superpeer 08-17-2004 08:17 AM
It's odd how this is called the "off-topic thread" and yet it's followed by "No spam allowed!". A bit hypocritical? Oh well, it's good to see one of these in here.
Aww, get out of here, you.

superpeer 08-17-2004 08:17 AM

Bartender, you've ordered 20 cd's?

And I thought my 18 was much.

irish_guitar_god 08-17-2004 08:46 AM

where the hell do you get the money to buy 20 cds, in ireland thats about 400 euro which is the equivalent of about 400 dollars.are there any cheap sites to buy cds from?

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 08:50 AM

400 Euro is more than a paycheck for me.

CD's are crazy expensive in Europe, I don't know whats up with you people.

You'd be paying around 10 euros (20 Canadian dollars) here.

Heh, try ordering from a Canadian site. Or Ebay, I get CD's really cheap there.

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 09:06 AM

I don't know exactly which sites, sorry.

*shrug* I guess you could google it.

Seriously, try ebay. Alot of times you can' get CD's for less than 10 euro, with shipping. Depending where you are.

superpeer 08-17-2004 09:07 AM

I'm spending like 230 euros on my 18 cd's.

Reasonable, I think.

Paranoidd 08-17-2004 09:12 AM

Depends what CD's.

It could be Shakira. Who knows?

Well my twenty CDs are costing me about £6.66 each, because the store I was ordering from was having a sale. I just explained to my mam that the sale would run out (it ends 31st of August) before I would have any additional money, so she let me borrow money from her in advance.

superpeer 08-17-2004 09:13 AM

Nah, not shakira.

Mostly extreme metal and a No doubt cd. :o

Adam Jones is GOD 08-17-2004 09:13 AM

I spent £16 on Will Haven 'Carpe Diem' (10 tracks) the same day I spent £10 on Reuben 'Racecar is racecar backwards' (16 tracks). Both same lenght. Just show you how bad CD prices in England can be
