When I was in France I picked up some power metal cd's because I found a shop that sold them quite cheap.

I got:

Iced Earth - Dark Saga
Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm
Bal-Sagoth - Atlantis Ascendant(I think thats the name of it)
Nightwish - Once
Dream Evil - The Book of Heavy Metal

I'm quite pleased with all of them seeing as I'd only heard around 4songs by each band and I was going off recomendations(sp?) from this thread so I want to say thanks for recomending me these great bands :thumb:
how is the Dream Evil band, i have never heard of them... and i hope you enjoy Dragonforce, thats a good CD. Fury of the storm is one of the craziest solo's i have heard...

Brew 07-18-2004 03:03 PM

All of Dragonforces solos are some of the craziest I've heard, they are really good.

Dream Evil are alright, I've only heard 'The Book of Heavy Metal' once through some crappy mini speakers so when I can be arsed, I'll listen to it again.

They sound pretty good though.

JMetallica 07-18-2004 05:41 PM

Bal-Sagoth!! \m/

Awesome band indeed! Fantasic story and excellent music. Lots of fun to be had by all. :D

RideTheSpiral 07-19-2004 01:28 AM

Book of Heavy Metal = best film clip ever.

true, their solos are insane!! and that **** guy has longer hair than me :( lol oh well hes earned it! lol. their songs however arnt the best written, i get tired of them easily, same goes with Dream Evil...not my favourite but worth checking out.

JMetallica 07-19-2004 04:00 AM

^^

Yes, upon the first listen of dragonforce, i almost had an orgasm (the title track on Valley of the ****ed was pretty **** insane), but on the second listen... well, they don't do anything for me now.Their songs aren't catchy at all, they all follow the same format, a lot of riffs are very samey. Just a very bland band when you get down to it.

And to Frail about avantasia. Yes, i meant that avantasia would be harder work than edguy. :D... I've been having a power metal evening, listening to Helloween, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Avantasia, Iron Savior and Vigin Steele. And I think the reason I like Avantasia is because of all the guest musicians, especially David Defeis (how ever you spell it) The Final Sacrifice on II is pretty much a virgin steel song, and i love it. I think it was that song that turned my opinion around, and it then made me realise that most (yes, not all :p) of that album is free of fluff. :D

RideTheSpiral 07-19-2004 04:07 AM

I think The Seven Angels is the best thing Tobias has done.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-19-2004 04:28 AM

well said JMetallica, Avantasia is like the supergroup of power metal haha. and i do agree that The Seven Angels is not only Tobias' masterpeice but one of power metals most unique anthems to date. :)

_GanondorF_ 07-19-2004 07:07 AM

hmm could someone recommend me some PM?, i dont think ive ever listened to any bar maiden which is hardly power.
Iced Earth are more thrash metal than anything, but have a few hints of power metal...yet they lack the lyrical content, classical leads, use of keyboards, and uplifting chorus.

Blind Guardian....here are a few good songs to try out:

Into the Strom
Curse of Feanor
Time Stands Still at the Iron Hills
Nightfall
Time What is Time
The Bards Songs (in the forest)
Somewhere Far Beyond
I'm alive
Welcome to Dying
Bright Eyes
Mordreds Song
Born in a Mourning Hall
Precrious Jerusalem
Wait for an Answer
Battlefield
Lord of the Rings
Traveler in Time
another good Blind Guardian song is Excalibur

rik 07-19-2004 11:04 AM

Lmao, That is a GRAVE DIGGER song. :D Lots of people make that mistake.

If you have downloaded that song, it is misnamed. It is not blindguardian/iced earth it is grave digger. :) Get their album Grave Digger - Excalibur

JMetallica 07-19-2004 05:27 PM

Lmao, it is so easy to tell it isnt a **** BG song. List to the vocals, listen to the riffing. List to the POWER!

Lefty 07-19-2004 06:11 PM

The Grave Digger vocalist fucking sucks. Can't stand his vocals.

JMetallica 07-19-2004 06:14 PM

Hehe, fair enough, but like I said earlier, you either love 'em or hate 'em. I like them very much.

Lefty 07-19-2004 06:33 PM
Hehe, fair enough, but like I said earlier, you either love 'em or hate 'em. I like them very much.
Yeah, I guess. Some of their compositions rips, and I tried to adapt to the vocals, but alas, I couldn't :)

New Jag Panzer songs from their up coming album. Pretty good tracks in the typical Panzer vein. :D

RideTheSpiral 07-20-2004 01:37 AM

I haven't seen you for a while Lefty.

I downloaded those JP songs a while ago. Not sure what to think of them...

I don't even own a Jag Panzer album. What's a good starting point?

Hitroshimite 07-20-2004 09:28 AM

Those Jag Panzer songs were pretty cool. I too would like to know of a good starting point.

The new Jag Panzer tunes rips! Heavy Metal! Aye, Ample Destruction is the best place to start.

Neurotoxin 07-20-2004 08:37 PM

Under the Ice is a cool song.

Iced Earth + Blind Guardian are my favourite power metal bands.

Skeksis 07-20-2004 08:49 PM

Dragonforce solos are just insane; Herman Li is indeed crazy.

the new album sounds preety cool, alot of their songs are skippers in the albums IMO but i will still pick it up :) vocals could be a little more polished.

Heh, whoops, sorry bout that.. And Ample Destruction is indeed the place to start.

Polished in what way? Production-wise? I think the Tyrant is doing a great job.

I agree that some of their tunes are skippable though, and some of their compositions are a little boring. Still, there's plenty of their material that is pure quality, so I'm most likely picking up the new album too.

Does Magic Kingdom have a homepage?

Hitroshimite 07-21-2004 05:17 PM
Does Magic Kingdom have a homepage?
I don't think so. I haven't been able to find much information, save for a couple of CD reviews in Russian and some stuff on the guitarist's side project.

http://www.limb-music.de/cgi-bin/limb.cgi

Thats the link to the webpage of there label, so there some info about them on there (and one track up for download).

ktululu 07-22-2004 03:57 AM
Page 20 this thread was on. 20!!! That’s disgusting.

Anyways, has anyone hear heard of a band called Magic Kingdom? I picked up their latest CD ‘Metallic Tragedy’ and it’s awesome. Symphonic Power/Speed Metal at it’s best. The title track is amazing. It’s a 13 minute mini-opera (literally; it has a plot, characters, dialogue, etc) with each character represented by a different kind of metal singer. There’s the Nightwish-esq female soprano, the death metal growler, the black metal shrieker, the bands normal vocalist and I think there’s another guy in there too. The voices all work together to form an incredible atmosphere. The whole kicks more *** than words can describe.
Absolutely awesome man. I bought *cough*downloaded*cough* that album a couple of days ago and i haven't stop listening to it since. I swear i could listen to Metallic Tragedy (the song) forever. If you guys haven't got this yet go out and buy it NOW.
