Oh man, that's rough. Today is my ex's (we broke up like 2 weeks ago and we're still friends but I still like her a lot lot lot) birthday.

:amaze:

Foxfire 11-29-2004 08:32 PM

MLA sucks. It sucks so much that I forgot how to do it.

Muadip, my girlfriend wants to see a movie. It's between Alexander, which is boring, and Finding Neverland. She said about Finding Neverland: "It's okay, if we see Finding Neverland I get to mentally undress Johnny Depp for an hour and a half."

FUNKNBASS 11-29-2004 08:32 PM

Are you OK Maudip.

Yeah ... and I went out and spent almost 100$ on her present ... think that's a bit too much?

FUNKNBASS 11-29-2004 08:34 PM

If you guys are still good friends then its not too bad Luke. IT is kinda much though, make sure you take the price tag off.

SLIPKNOTwolfman 11-29-2004 08:35 PM

what exactly are you talking about, a works cited page

FUNKNBASS 11-29-2004 08:35 PM

Hooray, I get to see my GF on Wednesday.

Rollo47 11-29-2004 08:35 PM

Hello There.

Hmm, I wonder how many times I have posted in this thread, simply saying hello.

BassVirtuoso 11-29-2004 08:35 PM

Luke how's your computer?

SLIPKNOTwolfman 11-29-2004 08:36 PM

you dropped $100 bucks for a chick

FUNKNBASS 11-29-2004 08:37 PM

Hey Rollo. Whats happening?

Wintermute 11-29-2004 08:37 PM

Fox - here you go, Gaslight's lesson.

Simple Harmonics Lesson/Exercise
There aren't a great deal of songs out there with harmonics involved to a large degree, so for people starting to get into harmonics, I have put together this simple exercise/lesson and explained some of the basic theory behind harmonics.

If you'd first like to know what harmonics are, Morpcat gives a very good definition here.

Simple Harmonics Lesson/Exercise © gaslight

THEORY

Quick notes about harmonics.

In the standard tuning (EADG), the notes are related by fifths.
That is,

E F F# G G# A

A A# B C C# D

D D# E F F# G

That is why the 5th fret a string is the same as the open note
of the string higher than it.

The 4th fret harmonics operate on the same principle.

*|---B----F#---C#---G#--|

G|--<4>-----------------|
D|-------<4>------------|
A|------------<4>-------|
E|-----------------<4>--|

G# A A# B C C#

C# D D# E F F#

F# G G# A A# B

Again on the 5th fret the pattern repeats.

These same harmonics can be found on the 12th fret.

*|---G----D----A----E---|---G----D----A----E---|

G|--<5>-----------------|--<12>----------------|
D|-------<5>------------|-------<12>-----------|
A|------------<5>-------|------------<12>------|
E|-----------------<5>--|-----------------<12>-|

E F F# G G# A

A A# B C C# D

D D# E F F# G

And again on the 7th fret.

*|---D----A----E----B---|

G|--<7>-----------------|
D|-------<7>------------|
A|------------<7>-------|
E|-----------------<7>--|

B C C# D D# E

E F F# G G# A

A A# B C C# D

And lastly, you can see that these harmonics are the same note.

*|---D----A----E--------|
*|---D----A----E--------|

G|--<7>-----------------|
D|--<5>--<7>------------|
A|-------<5>--<7>-------|
E|------------<5>-------|

PRACTICAL

Okay, now for the fun part. It's always best to learn stuff by playing it, and it's easier to play it if it's somewhat interesting, so here is an exercise to get familiar with playing harmonics, knowing what note they are, and so on.

A few things to remember;

* Take your finger off the harmonic after you play it, to get the brightest tone and longest sustain.

* Work on your fretting-hand finger technique so that you can play a harmonic on one string, then play a harmonic on another sting without muting the original.

* When playing the chords at the end, pluck each string with one finger and remember to take your finger off the harmonic as soon as the sound is produced to get the best sound.

All of this will be good practice for later. So yeah...

Part One.

*|---B----F#---C#---G#--|---G----D----A----E---|

G|--<4>-----------------|--<5>-----------------|
D|-------<4>------------|-------<5>------------|
A|------------<4>-------|------------<5>-------|
E|-----------------<4>--|-----------------<5>--|

*|---D----A----E----B---

G|--<7>-----------------|r|
D|-------<7>------------|e|
A|------------<7>-------|s|
E|-----------------<7>--|t|

Part Two.

*|---D----G----B--------|---A----D----F#-------|

G|--<7>--<5>--<4>-------|----------------------|
D|----------------------|--<7>--<5>--<4>-------|
A|----------------------|----------------------|
E|----------------------|----------------------|

*|---E----A----C#-------|---B----E----G#-------|

G|----------------------|----------------------|
D|----------------------|----------------------|
A|--<7>--<5>--<4>-------|----------------------|
E|----------------------|--<7>--<5>--<4>-------|

Part Three.

*|---B----D----E----G#--|---F#---A----B----C#--|

G|--<4>-----------------|----------------------|
D|-------<5>------------|--<4>-----------------|
A|------------<7>-------|-------<5>-------<4>--|
E|-----------------<4>--|------------<7>-------|

*|---D----F#---A----F#--|---A----C#---E----C#--|

G|--<7>-----------------|----------------------|
D|-------<4>-------<4>--|--<7>-----------------|
A|------------<5>-------|-------<4>-------<4>--|
E|----------------------|------------<5>-------|

Finish.

*|---B----F#---A----F#--
*|---A----E----B----E---

G|--<4>-----------------|r|
D|--<7>--<4>-------<5>--|i|
A|-------<7>--<5>--<7>--|n|
E|------------<7>-------|g|

Ah, nothing much mate. Enjoying my holidays, really. I'll probably get a mate to come around soon, we might have a couple of beers and watch the cricket.

EDIT: How about you, FUNKN?

Foxfire 11-29-2004 08:38 PM

YES. Thank you!

FUNKNBASS 11-29-2004 08:39 PM

Umm ... not getting any better. I can't print anyhting, so I have to burn everything to a cd and use the printer on my dad's laptop.

I've run virus scan a few times (regular, boot-time, and safe mode), and it hasn't found anything ... so when I have time (probably in a couple days) I'm going to want to system restore ...

Well, like we broke up a couple weeks ago ... because of time issues. I really still like her, but of course I don't know how she feels ... anyways, I got her a 19inch TV because she is moving out of her house into an apartment in a couple weeks, so it's definately an expensive present.

Well the present is definetly well meaning and if I had a spare 100 i'd probly do that for a friend in that situation, moving out and all. I'd say its OK, just see how she responds to it. You didnt break up on bad terms so it should be alright.

Sup MX? I've taken a bit of a internet hiatus, been practicing with a new band and such which is going pretty well. I have the SAT on Saturday, I'm trying to study for that and stay level headed. The usual life, just a bit more social.
