Welcome to the forums, and thanks :-).
Lol thanks for the welcome! When are you uploading your new recording?

DaveTheAmazing 09-04-2005 12:32 PM

I just finished it now, just about to upload. It's a lot neater than the first. I've shortened it also. Still can't do either of the solos just right, but tell me what you think. :)

DaveTheAmazing 09-04-2005 12:43 PM

What I'm doing is playing each part separetly and piecing them together with WMM. I have trouble getting things right just at the end of the ballad before the chor, you'll notice that. Also, I just played each of the end riffs twice and made them loop, you'll notice how I cut off the end just a little bit. Anyway, last time I was originally just messin around, but got some good advice. Is this a good improvement??

edit: lol dear god, the opening to the chorus sounds like shit! :upset:
since last christmas.
me to :) fade to blacks probably my all time favourite metallica song
the end solo is pretty easy when you learn all the notes, its not that fast

DaveTheAmazing 09-04-2005 01:01 PM

It's only like three minutes of the song. Also, the timing seems a little off in the beginning, but I couldn't hear any of the rhythm until the very end of that solo. Is that normal speed too? The solo speed was good, just the rhythm seemed a little fast. You've got the solo, but there's room for improvement. The verse didn't last long enough. Also in that second solo I think he overdubs, so just record one line and then record the lower part.

DO IT! Honestly, as weird as it is, I stared at a screen looking at MOP tabs and the day I got the official book I learned the entire song.

Agreed. The ending solo is fairly easy once you actually get it down. I'm still getting the timing down towards the end though

Yeah I said earlier that I'd cut it down, this mainly because it would drag on if i had the verse in its entirety without the singing. I guess you are right about the timing, I'll have to work on that. And yeah, I didn't notice till i played it over just now how quiet it can be.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. The recording would have been a lot better had I at least £10 worth of equipment to work with

Lol, it's not bad if your budget is that low. I'd save up some money and get some mics or something. A good recording program isn't quite necessary because you can download good free ones. I didn't read about cutting it down, so that's fine. The cutting down is ok, but you have to give the outro solo a shot...

I am always convinced that intro is wrong. It might just be me being picky, but everytime i see him play it live he plays the....

------7------6-----
-0-0----0-0----0-0- etc

...bit all on the low E string (power chords as well.)

So it would be like:

--------------------12-11-10-9------------------------------
-0-0-12-0-0-11-0-0-10-9--8--7-------------------------

fatbandit 09-04-2005 02:22 PM

I hadn't payed much attention to it :/

However, if you want to be picky, replace the 7 on the A for a 12 on the E etc. Same notes, so it doesn't really matter...?

And if you think its powerchords, play powerchords. But I'm sure the only power chords are the D, C#, C ones.
