The Feeding 09-22-2009 10:50 PM

I'm stoked on it so far

illmitch 09-22-2009 10:52 PM

all john darnielle all the time

Txus 09-22-2009 10:54 PM

album is dope

Skyler 09-22-2009 10:54 PM

Slang Blade is still one of the coolest song titles I've seen. The ego stroking on that album gets kind of old after a while though.

Nepenthe 09-22-2009 10:59 PM

nother great hip hop album. get that pete rock and cl smooth too sean.

slang blade is possibly the greatest verse of all time. i wish senim silla's solo album came close to being as awe inspiring as his work in binary star. i always liked him better than one be lo.

Jaundice 09-22-2009 11:38 PM

somebody give me a big .rar file with all this hipster rap in it like at least twenty essential albums so I can know what the hell everybody's always talking about?

chuffed 09-22-2009 11:45 PM

basinski melancholia

Skyler 09-22-2009 11:54 PM

hipster rap? er, what?

Tyler 09-22-2009 11:55 PM

don't mind jaundice, he's just an idiot is all

Jaundice 09-22-2009 11:57 PM

I wish everyone would stop testing my hip-hop credentials, I'm pretty outrageously good at this and I honestly don't mean any disrespect.

Skyler 09-23-2009 12:01 AM

no offense taken, i just don't know what the **** you're talking about

Tyler 09-23-2009 12:02 AM
I wish everyone would stop testing my hip-hop credentials, I'm pretty outrageously good at this and I honestly don't mean any disrespect.
pretty outrageously good at it =/= never having heard pete rock & cl smooth/calling it hipster alternative hip hop

Jaundice 09-23-2009 12:03 AM

i was asking if some one would megaupload numerous rap albums so i can enjoy them

i only call it hipster rap because Rap That White Girls and People Who Post on MX are Very Fond Of is a bit long to type out

Tyler 09-23-2009 12:04 AM

i really wish i could put you back on my ignore list

Skyler 09-23-2009 12:06 AM

i'm not even going to bother responding to that

Jaundice 09-23-2009 12:08 AM

nvm

will look through essentials lists in hip hop forum and download the albums myself and listen to them while i'm not busy enjoying Lil Wayne mixtapes

Tyler 09-23-2009 12:09 AM

i just don't know where you get off saying an album is 'hipster' or 'alternative' when you haven't heard it and don't know anything about it. it's like you pride yourself on being an idiot.

Nepenthe 09-23-2009 12:10 AM

dey reminisce dey reminisce

Jaundice 09-23-2009 12:12 AM

I'm not an idiot because I've never heard of whoever that was we were talking about

I mean, if a seasoned and respected MC with a lifetime of experience in writing and listening to hip hop hasn't heard of it, it seems logical to assume it's underground. will be more careful next time.

Tyler 09-23-2009 12:13 AM

yeah only pete rock is one of the most important and influential producers of all time

Nepenthe 09-23-2009 12:13 AM

pete rock is like, a big deal

haha beaten

paramore

illmitch 09-23-2009 12:51 AM

jaundice has a point, the hip hop tastes of MX are, for the most part, incredibly skewed towards east coast revivalism and unadulterated worship of the albums inspiring it

Nepenthe 09-23-2009 12:57 AM

the hip hop i listen to the most is pre-1998 cash money albums

pretty sure my taste isnt skewed towards east coast revivalism

illmitch 09-23-2009 12:59 AM

nah, i remember talking to you about hip hop before. im not calling people out in particular, im just noting the general trends.

Tyler 09-23-2009 12:59 AM
jaundice has a point, the hip hop tastes of MX are, for the most part, incredibly skewed towards east coast revivalism and unadulterated worship of the albums inspiring it
whether or not that's true is irrelevant. dude said pete rock was obscure and that pete rock & cl smooth were 'alternative' or 'underground'.

which is ridiculous.

illmitch 09-23-2009 01:01 AM

pete rock is awesome, but i think that album definitely falls under the "conscious hip hop" movement, which im pretty sure is what he meant

Tyler 09-23-2009 01:01 AM

pretty sure that album had a lot to do with ushering in the sampling of soul and jazz into the mainstream and pretty sure that without it people like kanye would be out of a job.

Jaundice 09-23-2009 01:03 AM

Mitch understands.

illmitch 09-23-2009 01:06 AM

pretty sure i never insulted the album, pretty sure i stated i'm a fan of it

Nepenthe 09-23-2009 01:06 AM

ive yet to hear a producer utilize a sample better than pete did on TROY

illmitch 09-23-2009 01:11 AM

anyway

Went to see these guys about 2 months ago at SDSU but the show sold out right as my friends and I got up to the ticket window after standing in line for like half an hour. Was super bummed.

Anyways, Empty Bottles of Water is one of my favorite songs ever:
