I just put in Wish You Were Here. It'll be my first listen through of the album.
Er... *surreptitious bump*
I was at work the other day, at a grocery store, and House of the Rising Son came on the radio. This guy at the checkout line started talking about it and was amazed that I actually knew the song and knew who it was by. Needless to say, I got a decent tip for taking his stuff out. So see, listen to classic rock, and yo *** will get paid. Straight up.
Well, if we're talking about the more common version, the arpeggiated one that the Animals did, right? Otherwise, it's been a folk song, as far as I know. I heard some awfully dissonant version of it a little while back. I'm trying to place it right now. |

It was originally a folk song from the '30s about a whore house. Anyone want to tell me what I missed over the weekend or am I going to have to read through these 5 pages? |

To be honest i think The Wall is a better album, but thats just my opinion, WYWH has awesome dual guitar work on it.

Yep I'm skimming through it anyways. |
I think that calssic rock is probably the second greatest greatest Genre of Music after ad tie between punk and metal.
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Van Halen, Queen, Cream. There is a few bands that im not sure whether they are classic rock or metal. WhiteSnake, AeroSmith, and there are some others. |
I think Toys in the Attic Aerosmith material is classic rock, I don't think Whitesnake is classic, maybe its Bad Hair Day i really don't know, and to be honest I really don't know how one would go about puting Queen in a genre, any suggestions?
|
eww, whitesnake in the thread?
:upset: YES, Toys in the Attic is classic rock! |
Toys in the Attic is great. I need more Aerosmith. They're kind of like the Stones but more bluesy hard rock. Also Tyler tries to copy Jagger, but I don't really care as long as the music is good.
|
thank you. does anyone know where I can find the genre for whitesnake?
|
I don't know, I've never heard them. If you like them, you should probably know the genre.
|
Whitesnake are Hair/Glam Metal.
|
Does anyone have any Robin Trower? I'm downloading Bridge of Sighs right now, and I've read reviews saying it's a great blues album.
|
thnx.

I only have Bridge of Sighs, but its a great album. I recommend it to you guys a lot, but I'm not sure if anyone ever checked it out. I'd be happy to YSI it for anybody if they wanted. |

As for House of the Rising Sun, I realized it because my English teacher was giving us some silly slide show on the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression to go along with our reading of Grapes of Wrath (man that book is loooong), and he had some folk music playing. I'm thinking Guthrie, but I'm not sure. I was the only one who recognized it, but only because of they lyrics. It didn't sound remotely like the modern version. Heh. Speaking about folk... er... can anyone recommend me some Dylan songs? Be kind, I'm not really familiar with his stuff. |

The Byrds didn't do it justice "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" and "Like a Rolling Stone" will get you started Go to www.bobdylan.com , you can get anything off of it |
Also, Hurrican, Isis, From a Buick 6, Tombstone Blues, Tangled Up in Blue, Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat, and I Want You are awesome.
|
When I saw him he did "It Ain't Me Babe" and "Like a Rolling Stone" for the encore :D
NP: Neil Young and Pearl Jam- I'm The Ocean |

I think it was Alt and Indie. It'll be a few pages back though. |

Oh yeah, I didn't mean Guthrie wrote it. Just that he was the one I heard playing it. I've been listening to Like a Rolling Stone, Blowing in the Wind, Hurricane, Knocking on Heaven's Door and now Mr. Tambourine Man. Good stuff, and a nice change of pace for me. |
If you are looking for a Dylan album, I'd suggest Blood on the Tracks first. Then maybe Freewheelin' or Blonde on Blonde.
|
For the guy that asked for a good ELP album a few pages back, you should get Karn Evil 9 or Tarkus. Both are good.
|
Blood on the Tracks is my favorite, but I wouldn't start with that. I'd start with Highway 61 or a greatest hits.

Did you just go to Spain a few months ago? I have a rather stupid question: What kind of clothes to Spaniards wear? I hear that they are into business/formal wear just out on the streets and dress very nicely, and that if you wear shorts and a t-shirt out stick out like a sore thumb, is this true? I am going in a few weeks you see... /has nothing to do with CR whatsoever |
Hrm, point me out to a good greatest hits compilation, so I don't miss the good songs.
Otherwise, it's usually better to get albums. Do people say that Dylan's voice is hard to get into? I really like it. |
So a awesome thing happened today. I was biking around my town, and apparently there is going to be a flea market every Monday in this big park, so my and my friends went in hoping to find some good stuff. I split with my friends when they went to look at paintball stuff. Then I saw this guy with a huge mullet and all these rows of CDs in front of him. I talked to him abit about music then looked at the CDs. There was lots of rare CDs and good classic rock albums. But I hardly had any money so I bought Pink Floyd: Muisc from the Film More. Its pretty good stuff. I've never seen it in stores.
|
Send me some, I'll pay you for it later.

Personally, I could not think of a voice style that would fit his music better. I would just get Greatest Hits Vol. 1 to start since it is a very good intro of his early career despite being very short. Because it's so short you can probably find it very cheap. He also has more in-depth greatest hits CD's. And More is supposed to be hard to find, though my Sam Goody has it. I should get that. |
I have a Borders that has More, but it's 18$ and there are many things on my CD list higher than it. Maybe when I get another big Amazon order I'll get it.

Yes More is down on my list too, I'm not in a rush to get it. And Borders is awesome. There's one like 15 minutes away from me, but my mom never takes me there. In a month when I get my license that will become my primary CD buying store. |

You are so lucky you are getting it in a month, I was going to get mine in July, but then they pushed it back to August, and then a few minutes called and said "oops! Sorry! August is filled!" so by the time I get my license I will yet again be under the shackles of my High School  |
I still have to wait a year for my license. I'm getting my permit in the next couple weeks.
|
Borders is a Book Store right?
Barnes and Nobles is one of my favorite places to buy CD's. they have a very nice selection. |
The Byrds didn't do it justice
I'd say it's got a lot more going for it than an Dylan's did.
Borders is a Book Store right?
Yea, in my town, there's a Borders on one side of the street and a B&N on the other side. I prefer Borders, but just for books and such; I have an independent CD shop to buy from. |
I'd say it's got a lot more going for it than an Dylan's did.
I think the Byrds' version is more appealing and catchy, but it doesn't have the depth of the Dylan version, like the verses towards the end that make my head spin. To me, that was the main appeal of the song, but it didn't have the mass appeal of the Byrds' version |
I think the meaning of "Mr. Tambourine" man doesn't even contain much depth, and that The Byrd's more Psychedelic sound seems to even relate with it more. (IMO)
