Fruit fun fact: Fruits have their outer skin (by outer skin I mean anywhere that's not the central core) saturated in a sweet, tangy, and tasty flavor for reproduction purposes. Think about it: animals eat the outer area of the core, spread the seeds, and viola, reproduction.
No, it's a pomegranite. Those things are so good. The seeds are coated with like, jelly, and you just suck on them. They're amazing. They're the only fruit where we eat just the seeds.
:thumb: -Gav
What about peanuts? |
Peanuts are nuts, not fruits or vegetables.
then what happened?
The beautiful daughter of Demeter and Zeus, Persephone is the focus of the story resulting in the division of the seasons, giving us the sweetness of Spring and the bitterness of Winter. Hades did not woo the beautiful Persephone, he abducted her and took her to his underground kingdom. After much protest, Persephone came to love the cold blooded king of the underworld but her mother, Demeter, was consumed with rage and sorrow. She demonstrated her anger by punishing the earth’s inhabitants, gentle and fierce with bitter cold and blustering winds. Unless Persephone was returned of to her mother’s side, the earth would perish. Herakles came to the rescue. He entered the kingdom of Hades and negotiated a compromise between the (usually cold and selfish) Hades and the (usually loving and caring) Demeter. All agreed that Persephone would to spend part of the year with her husband, Hades, and part of the year with her mother, Demeter. When Persephone is with Hades the earth is wracked by the sorrow of her mother. But, when Persephone returns from the underworld to walk the earth again, Demeter pours forth the blessings of Spring to welcome her beloved daughter home. To put it simply, I got this from messagenet.com by the way. The pomegranite sealed the deal. |
Peanuts are nuts, not fruits or vegetables.
I'm probably wrong again, but I've heard they're vegitables. |
Speaking of vegetablefruits, anyone ever had a durian? They smell like death incarnate. I don't know why anybody seeks them out for eating.
Because they taste absolutely gorgeous! Seriously, you may have to peg your nose to do it, but they are lovely. |
1-Watermelon are fruits (learn the definition of a fruit  Heh, just joking).
2-Yes, apples/oranges are just "giant ovaries" as super deluxe so wonderfully put it. 3-Peanuts are not fruit or vegetables. They are legume, or "pods," although they are related to the pea family. :thumb: -Gav |
Because they taste absolutely gorgeous! Seriously, you may have to peg your nose to do it, but they are lovely.
My friend got one and ate it in the dorm last year, and the hall smelled like distilled essence of Satan. It was no good. :( |

I think I had one of those before, but I don't really remember. I do remember seeing something in a very spiney shell and eating it, though. :thumb: -Gav |

Yes, same in Spanish, but slightly different (legumbres). I'm almost 100% positive that peanuts are legumes and not vegetables. A peanut is a seed in a pod, and we eat the seed. However, it is not a vegetable (from my understanding...someone correct me if I'm wrong).

interesting... so what does the pomegranite have to do with the whole Hades/Persephone story?
|
My friend got one and ate it in the dorm last year, and the hall smelled like distilled essence of Satan. It was no good. :(
That may be, but I can think of few finer accompaniments to a relaxing lie on a tropical beach in the Philippines than a chilled glass of fresh Durian juice on ice. Or for that to buy one from a chinese marketplace and eat it on a large rock surrounded by bamboo with a view over the valleys to the sea. |

:thumb: -Gav
I think you're right. Them and beans and tamarinds all hang out in the same family. |
interesting... so what does the pomegranite have to do with the whole Hades/Persephone story?
Hades used them to keep Persephone down in the underworld and they prevented her from leaving on her own. |

:thumb: -Gav
But if it's class translates into vegetable in english, what makes it different? |
I'm off...I'm getting a ride home with Pete. Talk to you after I finish homework at home. Let me know how the peanut debate turns out...
