Personally, I like :

Wings for Marie/10,000 Days
The Pot
Right In Two
Vicarius
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Jambi
Intention

I enjoy all of the songs though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2006 08:24 PM

I'm hoping that the album will go through or has gone through a lot of finishing between the time of the leak and the release because aside from Vicarious, they sound very raw, and I like my Tool polished.

EDIT: Not sure why I'm editing this post, but I forgot The Pot on my list. /fag

Txus 04-23-2006 08:25 PM

Ok, her is my top 6 then :p
Vicarious
The Pot
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Jambi
Right In Two
Intension

really now. doesn't everybody?
i like the voice box solo because he doesn't try to say any actual words. just explores the tonal possibilities. you don't have shred and play a billion notes to sound good.
I really like the solo in Jambi, I think I stand alone with that statement though :(
I love the solo in Jambi, its one of the stronger points of the album in my opinion. :thumb:

No, you don't. I have no idea why so many people dislike it.

PS thanks for the link Otherside. :) I remember when I saw Tool a few years ago, that part TOTALLY threw me off....it was nice.

Huber 04-23-2006 09:11 PM

I'm hoping maybe the CD comes with like a CD/DVD with that god damn "last 6 shows" DVD.

They haven't said a word about it in ages. I want it bad!

PIGS(1 different one) 04-23-2006 10:35 PM

So far the album has really grown on me since the initial listening of it.

I rank the songs in this order so far:

Right in Two
Jambi (the solo gets to me a little bit, but the rest is awsome)
Rossetta Stoned
10,000 days part 1 and 2
Vicarious
Intensions
The Pot

White Riot! 04-23-2006 10:45 PM

Vicarious sucked

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2006 10:48 PM
Vicarious sucked
Dare I ask why?

I didn't think it was anything special at first, but then I got to know the song, now I'm quite fond of it. Just as good as any other Tool track, I think.

PIGS: Glad to see you're digging it more.

Huber - Yeah, I seriously wonder...Blair was talking about a DVD before the CD, so hmph..Maybe things change, maybe this really is a B side release.

Actually. It was the best song(only good one) on the album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2006 10:54 PM

What do you think of other Tool releases, Charm? All I've seen you do is bash 10,000 Days, so I'm guessing you like some of their stuff. :p

White Riot! 04-23-2006 10:55 PM

The album is pretty mediocre coming from Tool.

Pretty much Danny Carey stole the show , and doesnt seem like a band effort to me.

A great band in its zone is more powerful than the sum of its parts , and for this one Tool werent even close to their zone.

Futuro 04-23-2006 11:02 PM

I still enjoy it.

Yeah

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2006 11:03 PM

I think Justin's playing has changed the most between albums. Not only in his actual playing as in songs like The Pot, but also in him exploring different tones like in Jambi, and also in The Pot. Good stuff.

Eulogy, H. Anemia, Prison Sex, Opiate are the few songs I like. Scism is okay but I've heard it too many times. The Grudge is alright.

In fact. I used to play H.

Ok, so, my 2 cents on the matter. First off, I'll be the FIRST in line to buy the new CD, so I don't wanna hear any crap about listening to it before. No way that Im not gonna listen to it when someone sends it to me.

I for one HOPE that this isn't the actual release. I have read so much in the past few years about how much work they have put into this, and how it is their greatest work ever. This album seems like a B-sides from all of their past albums. You can hear influences from all of their prior works.

If this is the "REAL" CD then, in my opinion, it is definiatly NOT in line with where they should be as musicians. This CD would rank right after Undertow. The CD itself seems to have no flow, no real messages, and is poorly put together.

As far as musicianship, the stand out here is Justin. His basslines and playing are top notch. Carey pulls some impressive fills but alot of his playing is repetitive and definiatly not what I expected from him. Adam's guitar riffs seem to be rehashed parts from prior songs. Maynard, man, he doesn't live up to his reputation at all. If this is his best work, all I can say is that APC and MONEY have taken their toll.

I really hope this is a B-sides release, kinda a joke that they have pulled off. If any band could do this TooL could. Never before has any of their CD's leaked, they control everything about this CD. It almost seems like it was intentionally leaked. I am REALLY hoping that on the 2nd, when I buy the CD, it is going to blow my mind.

If nothing else, the CD will have some killer Alex Grey work in it, I heard today that the band spent a week with Grey putting together idea's.

For the record, Im as hard core of a Tool fan as anyone is......

listens to Vinnie C with REAL drums , with REAL dynamics , and Real ghost notes , flams , drags , ruffs et etc. Vinnie's Volume/Dynamic totally control shreds Danny Carey

That's a very interesting angle to look at. I agree it might be a B-Sides album. never know. Like you said, Tool would be the band to pull that off.

I honestly think and maybe I'll be proven wrong. It's the album. Albums leak more and more these days.

Undertow was much better than his. IMO

Get off it. Those pads DC is using are sick. No real drums can pull it off, so why not pull it off the only way possible?

I'm sick of that. Picking bassists, triggers on bass drums, I don't care. If that's what it takes to make it sound good, more power to you. Unless you don't admit. Then you're a douche.

SonorKen 04-23-2006 11:39 PM

I use electronics in my kit as well, they are dynamic and require the same skill level as a regular drum. As far as who is better than who, who cares, they are both phenominal drummers, both inspirational.

I completely disagree.

Danny stole the show more in Lateralus, IMO, not that I feel any member really steals the show on any album, I think they work together very well.

This album might be more interesting than Lateralus as an album, though I feel Lateralus best tracks beat the best tracks on here at the moment.

I don't feel this album is rushed or poorly put together, or lacking in flow, I really think it's a good album and that people are being judgemental very early. I don't think most albums will beat Ænima/Lateralus in a few days or weeks given the amount of time most Tool fans have listened to them and got to know them. To be honest, the musicianship on this new CD, guitarwise is probably the most complex stuff they've done overall.

If this CD was a bunch of b-sides, which I think is highly, highly unlikely, then we'll all have double the Tool which is fantastic, but like I say, I don't think that's going to happen at all. Let's see where we stand in a year on the album, and I imagine a lot of people who bash it now will have it right up there with Ænima/Lateralus.

maynard sings more melody in song like jamb and the pot.. which is more Apc/pusicifer. i think its cool but untool..

VISIONS: Is the variable singing your greatest personal achievement?
Keenan: I try to experiment as much as possible without harming the music. The many places on this record deserve different perspectives. Some of the vocal renovation I already tested on emotive, and even at the beginning of “The Grudge” on the last Tool record.

kurrpt 04-24-2006 07:21 AM

theres definitely some angle these scalpers have...

How so?

Listen to songs like Stinkfist and Parabola and he uses melody. I agree that Tool isn't a completely melodic band, but neither is 10,000 Days.
