Then how the hell do you not like one of the greatest musicans to ever walk the face of the planet?!!?! Sorry, it's just freakishly strange to me that a person that likes Jazz doesn't like Miles Davis.
Well, if 'one of the greatest musicians to ever walk the planent' releases what is boring to me, I like other, will not like nor enjoy his music.

Many people do not like Miles Davis and like Jazz; plenty of people in the Jazz & Funk forum do not, and agree that even Kind of Blue could put them to sleep.

That's like saying I can't like Rock music without being into The Beatles.
So......the Last Waltz is pretty good.
123.

np: Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love

magicbus 06-26-2005 01:16 PM

I love The Last Waltz.

I don't think I'm going to go to Tom Petty anymore :upset:

I might go to CCR instead.

Still definently seeing Buddy Guy though.

Daniel! 06-26-2005 01:36 PM

I think one of the coolest things I've ever seen is Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Robbie Robertson all together on stage at the end of the Last Waltz. It was awsome.

Three of my all-time favorite musicians.

Fair enough, I mean I guess that was a little narrow minded to say but I haven't talked to a Jazz fan yet that doesn't like Miles Davis. Oh well at least you didn't say that about John Coltrane. ;)

Speaking of John Coltrane; A Love Supreme is quite possibly the greatest music ever recorded.
I don't think I'm going to go to Tom Petty anymore :upset:
He's coming back here on July 29th but tickets are already sold out :(

It's fine that Badmoon doesn't like Miles Davis. "Boring" is completely subjective; after all, my eyes glaze over whenever I try to listen to the Grateful Dead, but he thinks they're the greatest band ever. Different strokes for different folks.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-26-2005 01:53 PM

You speak the truth.^

What Jazz do you enjoy Moon?

Badmoon 06-26-2005 01:56 PM

I like Charles Mingus among others.

And yes, I like some John Coltrane. Blue Train particularly.

Wes Montgomery's cool too.

White_heat 06-26-2005 01:56 PM
Bitches Brew is awesome, as is Live in Olympia, and Kind of Blue. I want Sketches of Spain.
I could upload that for you

That's the same reason I'm not going anymore.

I am, however, going to Chicago for a few days with my dad. Any places I should check out?

Illmatic 06-26-2005 02:02 PM

I was never a big fan of Kind Of Blue, actually. Miles Smiles and Bitches Brew both blow it out of the water. I'm also a fan of Grant Green, though I may be alone.

That's strange..... :amaze: You mentioned Blue Train and Mingus just when I got finished listining to Mingus Ah Um and was just about to put in Blue Train. :amaze: weird............

Anyone into latin Jazz?

BassMasterMike88 06-26-2005 02:32 PM

^
Would Santana fall under that genre, because he is latin rock obviously.

Illmatic 06-26-2005 02:36 PM

I haven't heard a lot of Latin jazz. Sounds interesting enough, though.

NP: Miles Davis - Petits Machins (Small Stuff)

BludgeonySteve 06-26-2005 03:13 PM

I really hope Santana would be considered latin jazz, because otherwise: no.

BassMasterMike88 06-26-2005 03:31 PM

I dont see why Santana wouldn't be considered latin jazz.

BludgeonySteve 06-26-2005 03:32 PM

woot!

Badmoon 06-26-2005 03:35 PM

Check Up: Is anyone yet into the following?

Calexico - Convict Pool
Jimmy Cliff - Harder They Come

EDIT: Okay, no :(

Glitterati 06-26-2005 04:16 PM

Speaking of Miles Davis, I got Sketches Of Spain today out of my library.

He never seemed like any form of jazz to me.

Jimmy Cliff-After downloading Man in the Hills by Burning Spear I figured I should give him another listen, but I deleted it :-/

Calexico-yes
I dont see why Santana wouldn't be considered latin jazz.
'cause he is more experimental, he like to mix latin roots with blues and old fashioned rock.

Glitterati 06-26-2005 05:28 PM

That's true. Santana is cool. He's a cool old Mexican man.

Woodstock 06-26-2005 05:47 PM

Montgomery is unbelievably good. I only have a greatest hits, but it's one of my favorite jam albums.

Walrus Gumboot 06-26-2005 05:52 PM

Somehow today's Jazz fails to get me going, in my opinion, it lacks the energy that it's predecessors in the 20's had, and has, in many cases, been reduced to elevator music.

Yea, big band and swing music is great.

That it does. Maybe it is because the crazy underground Bohemian make-it-up-as-you-go-along sorts don't make Jazz as much as scholars do now adays. The same could be said of some rock (IMO)

Yea, improvisation really only appeals to me if the artist knows what he or she is doing (i.e. keeping the listener interested).

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-26-2005 06:17 PM

What exactly is Calexico?

No QMS! or Big Brother!

White_heat 06-26-2005 06:41 PM

Santana isn't really latin jazz, but he has some aspects of it. Latin Jazz has little guitar, it has a high emphasis on percusion and bass. Some latin Jazz doesn't have latin percusion, it just has bass, piano, saxophone, ect., but it has the latin upbeat feel and groove. If you want some good Latin jazz download some Michel Camilo.

I can only remeber hearing some Santana Brothers CD that sounded very jazzy, latin (and elevator-y)

White_heat 06-26-2005 06:46 PM

Ive never heard that, but what ive heard from santana is more like blues with latin percusion

Walrus Gumboot 06-26-2005 06:50 PM

Yeah, I know what you are talking about, but this Santana Bros. stuff was different and quite unpleasent (IMO) compared with plain old Santana. I don't know what it was exactly, maybe I should ask my dad, it was his CD, after all

White_heat 06-26-2005 07:38 PM

So I bought

Chicago- ChicagoII

I'm really liking it
