Well, i don't know if this has been posted already or not but there's a new interview with Maynard and I must say it's quite interesting. Just scroll down towards the bottom of the page and you'll see it.

Anything Dani Filth does Mikael Akerfeldt does better.

Agreed. My Arms, Your Hearse is miles above anything Dani's done. I bet Dani would agree. ;)

High pitched screams?
High pitched screams?
Yes.

clearvision 04-23-2006 02:10 PM

Which song?...I have the opeth Discog and have never heard anything that compares to filth's high pitched scream...

Otherside 04-23-2006 02:15 PM

Patterns In The Ivy. The most insane death metal high pictched scream of all time.

See you auntie! 04-23-2006 02:55 PM

The solo in Jambi.

Seriously.

What's up with that?

Why cause it is so awesome?

See you auntie! 04-23-2006 03:12 PM

No, because it sounds so out of place it makes me cry.

Dani Filth has an amazing vocal range.

clearvision 04-23-2006 03:16 PM

That kind of was my point :-/

That doesn't justify anything you've said.

Clearvision: I was being facetious.

I was just pointing it out.

Mikeal is obviously a superior singer than Dani. Skill wise.

Clear, Yes.
Growl, Yes.

Screams go to Dani.

I don't really think so at all. The first time I heard it, it didn't hit me that way, and it still doesn't. It sounds so badass it makes me cry though.

Almost. :p

The new cd is great. At first i thought it was just meh but now its all really good. The only thing that bothers me is that there's a couple of riffs from previous songs being used. Other than that the cd is brilliant.

circlethedrain 04-23-2006 03:55 PM

I didn't like the solo the first time I heard it but then it grew on me, much like how the whole CD did.

He uses inward screaming to hit those pitches.

In responce to earlier moments in the thread; I'm Charming clearly hasn't looked into Maynards lyrics in any detail, and the voicebox solo in Jambi is very unique and interesting sounding. In short, it sounds cool.

ATC 04-23-2006 08:10 PM

Jambi's solo and Vicarious are the only parts of the album I don't like. I like Jones when he's being subtle and personally, he underwhelmed me on certain songs. I'm not denying the uniqueness of it, just the value of it.

Daven 04-23-2006 08:11 PM

I dont really like the solo as well, but the rest of the song is too damn good.

SugarCoatedSour 04-23-2006 08:14 PM

The new album just sounds like a re-hash of everything Tool has already done except with a lot less conviction and thought...especially on Maynard's part. Everything on it sounds forced.

Txus 04-23-2006 08:14 PM

I really like the solo in Jambi, I think I stand alone with that statement though :(

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2006 08:19 PM

As it stands now, here's how I rank the tracks:

Right in Two
Jambi
Vicarious
The Pot
Intention
Wings
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
