I'm not trying to be an *** but it's spelled rhythm
I personally don't really like Mustaine's vocals and Friedman is better at lead for Megadeth then Mustaine but he is pretty decent at it. |

 have you even seen anything from Friedman's solo career? He is clearly better then Mustaine |
Friedman maybe a better guitar player. But that doesn't mean he doesn't write better music. For example, Petrucci is obviously talented, but I'd rather listen to Kerry King solo than Petrucci.
With that being said, I like Mustaine's shred solos, and Friedman pretty yet shredtastic solos as well. And I like them equally the same. I really am anxious to hear Kirk's solo stuff. |
To: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Metallica Inc., and Q. Prime Inc.
Attention: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Metallica Inc., and Q. Prime Inc. We, the longtime loyal fans and friends of Metallica and their music would like to see a major change with the upcoming album. I know it will be a hard thing to do, but we feel it is time to sever your working relationship with Bob Rock. Don’t get us wrong, some of us like a few (very few) contributions Bob Rock has made to Metallica. Unfortunately one thing we can all agree on is nothing has been the same since he joined the ranks as longtime Metallica producer. We are not criticizing Bob Rock on his technical skills as he has mastered his sound. We just feel that his contributions to help craft a Metallica song are quite wrong and have been getting worse as time goes on. From Kill’em All through …And Justice For All, the albums are timeless and we can listen to them over and over. Although Bob Rock’s first producing effort with Metallica, “The Black Album”, may have sold the most copies worldwide, it doesn’t mean the album is the most musically pleasing. As much as we support Metallica, most of us listen to the first few albums much more. The songs were simple and overproduced. Load and Reload were examples of not having any control. The music was all over the place and Bob Rock went with the same sound plan as he has done for all of Metallica’s albums. We heard this sound yet again on the first disc of Garage Inc. We have watched the videos of Bob Rock telling Metallica horrible suggestions in the studios while we cringe knowing it is the wrong decision. Keep in mind, Bob Rock was in a band or two himself when he was younger. The reason no one knows this is because his bands failed because he cannot craft a good song let alone a help craft a good Metallica song. Then we are left with St. Anger. It is completely unlistenable and this is the album that Bob Rock had most of his influence. Not only in production but the songs are all a mess as well. Every song could be cut down by about 3-5 minutes simply by cutting out most of the repetition. Bob Rock didn’t realize that repetition of one riff over and over for 10 minutes doesn’t make a song a pleasingly structured song. The sound, as everyone can agree, did not break any musical barriers, it just made the album worse. Even Bob Rock can do better than this. We understand and appreciate the time and effort Bob Rock has put into Metallica. By your own admission, you state Metallica is a hard band to work with. We appreciate him being there to keep the band together at a personal low point of their career to help them carry on as a four piece. But we feel the day has come. We are excited to hear the next studio album with the addition of masterful bassist Robert Trujillo. We hope it breathes new songwriting life into the band. All we ask is you take our suggestion seriously for the sake of the band and your fans. Please end your working relationship with Bob Rock as producer and let’s enter into a new phase for Metallica. Thank you, Your Loyal and Loving Fans Sincerely, The Undersigned |
Yeah, IMHO Petrucci is boring. I think Kirk's solo album will kick *** and maybe he'll put all those haters to rest with the "Hammett is nothing but pentatonics and wah* which anyone who knows their stuff also knows that that isn't true.
|
I don't know man. Bob is already out but some of the songs from Bob's time I like. St. Anger is my number 5 Metallica record on a tie with ReLoad.
|
6stringslinger might have the right idea. I remember signing that online petition that had like 100,000s of signatures for firing bob rock. Maybe they just surfed the web and actually found it. :)

Metallica drops Bob Rock for Rick Ruben
i dont know if its "old/pld" but
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/metallica_to_work_with_rick_rubin.html for those of you that dont know, he started Def/Jam records signing such acts as LL cool J and Run DMC... discuss |
 have you even seen anything from Friedman's solo career? He is clearly better then Mustaine
Why did you refer straight to his solo career? was i right about Mustaine writing 3/4 of what Friedman did? please imagine what Mustaines solo career would of been like(eg hanger18 guitar battle) and it would of got much better then that |
is there any band rick rubin hasnt worked with...smells like bull****.

Rick produced couple of later johnny's albums also which were all good. I can't wait for this next album. I really don't think producers will change alot in how music sounds, as a band gets to say in most things also, but we'll see. |

Anyone know who he's making it with, like bass, drums etc? and is he singing or is it instrumental? |
I've just heard about Rick Rubin producing the new album, thats awesome news, I'm pretty excited about it now.
|
maybe it'll be a half decent album. Slayer is one of my favorite bands so im excited too:D
|
I hope it's got a better overall sound than St. Anger.
They're in good hands now. :) |
Meh, it's only changing the producer, still have the same **** drummer and lead guitarist...
|
Still got the guys that wrote such albums as MoP, RtL, KeA and AjfA.
|
Y the **** does everyone think this albums gonna be better with RR? Its still Metallica writting the music ffs
|
Do you know how much Bob influenced 'Tallica? Besides, Rubin > Rock.
Rick Rubin doesn't make bad records. |
Somewhere i heard that you have to pay some sorta tax for the BBC? is that true?
I loved JJ's drumming...it just made Tallica sound so much more...Fresh
Yes, we have to pay TV licensing because the BBC won't show adverts. The new bassists Rob Trujillo. he's been there for nearly 3 years now. |
tommorow i'm gonna buy tickets for the upcomming liveshow... first time i'm gonna see them finally :D
|

|

Didn't Friedman write the solos he played or were they improved or wrote for him?
|
Most of the solos Friedman played were his own as far as I know.
I hope to see Master of Puppets-esque material out of Rubin's production job, otherwise Rick Rubin is a failure. :D |
First thing rick needs to do is get a voice trainer for James, I'm sure he can bring his voice back
|
Or better yet, get some voice effects on Hetfield's voice. Make him sound like a robot.
|

For the love of God no more wah please!
|
For the love of God no more wah please!
I dont mind the wah that much, but Kirk really should move away from it. |
Kirk isn't into how he did solos in the past so maybe we will have less wah. It couldn't really care either way because they are pretty good with or without the wah
|
Can't believe Rick Rubin's producing Metallica's new album! Judging by his track record with other bands i.e Slayer,RHCP,Audioslave he has not made a bad album. I got my download ticket and I've heard they are going to play some of there new stuff which is good. I thought after Jason's departure and the release of Saint Anger there was no coming back. But just maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.:chug:
|
Is Jason still with Voivod or is he doing something else now? I think he was only with Echobrain for one album and they broke up and he went away from the Ozzy thing.
I'm hoping this next one kicks so much *** though. Rick should put Metallica in the right direction. Oh...maybe they will release temptation on the new one!!!!!!! |
if Rick can bring back metallica to Pre Black Album, he'd be the most respected producer ever.
|
Metallica wou;dn't want that those. James has said that he hopes they change their sound on every album as not to create the same thing over and over again.
