I did Coursework and writing
really? did they both count for marks? we were told you do one or the other, or you do the coursework and if it turns out terrible then you go in for the exam.

Jev 05-23-2006 10:04 AM
really? did they both count for marks? we were told you do one or the other, or you do the coursework and if it turns out terrible then you go in for the exam.
Yeah they both counted.
I had 4 pieces of coursework to do, One piece of writing, I chose to write about a holday abroad or something, a listening exam, a speaking exam and a reading exam.

2muchket! 05-23-2006 10:07 AM
i have a bad feeling the RE exam tomorrow is going to be fatally boring.
2 frickin' hours. Aparently the questions on higher were just as easy as foundation. And jesus christ my ICT exam was difficult. I couldn't think of any disadvantages for on-line shopping.

I'm quietly confident about my french. Done 3 practise reading papers and I got two A's and one A*. And I strolled C's on the two practise listeing exams. If I get anything close to that, plus my teacher said my listening and C/W were both B's I should be in for a high-ish grade.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:08 AM
Yeah they both counted.

wait this holiday thing was like an exam thing, or a piece that you did over the year? when i said coursework i meant just stuff that you do over the year in class and stuff.

Jev 05-23-2006 10:08 AM

I did RE last year. I found it rather easy.
Holiday thing was an exam. I swear.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:09 AM

yeah two hours of hellish boredom and squeaky chairs.
ICT was OK for me.
I did RE last year. I found it rather easy.

well then you didnt do coursework like i meant coursework, that was the writing exam. we did things in class like write about your work experience and stuff, and we could get the teachers help and you could work on it at home etc. thats the kind of coursework i was talking about.

Jev 05-23-2006 10:17 AM

I did do coursework. trust me. I did 4 pieces and i missed the deadline by a week and had to spend every day after school with my French teacher finishing them. I'll never forget that.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:22 AM

well i dont know whats happening then, unless theres been a huge misunderstanding and you're actually talking about 3 years ago when you entered a Mathematics exam in portugal.

Jev 05-23-2006 10:27 AM

I did no such thing

Maybe you're on a different exam board or things have changed.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:28 AM
I did no such thing

thats the most likely explaniation. huh, so much for my portugal theory.

FVG27 05-23-2006 10:28 AM

Done my first two exams. I think I've done really well in English lit, I found it easy and I normally get A*s in my practice papers anyway *touch wood*. IT was harder than expected :-/

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:35 AM
IT was harder than expected :-/
i didnt get the question about Computer modals, i have no idea what they are.

2muchket! 05-23-2006 10:38 AM

What how with the spreadsheet can they produce a model. I didn't understand that.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:42 AM

yeah that one. i just wrote stuff like 'spreadsheets can do calculations and stuff'.

Jev 05-23-2006 10:42 AM

I wasn't even entered for any ICT at all for some reason.

FVG27 05-23-2006 10:49 AM
What how with the spreadsheet can they produce a model. I didn't understand that.
Everyone I spoke to was confused about that. Stupid stupid question.... but then if everyone found it hard the boundaries will go down :)

Jev 05-23-2006 10:50 AM

Was the question actually worded like that?

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:52 AM

it was something like: "Explain why spreadsheets are good for creating computer models".
the question before was: "spreadsheets are often used for computer models. explain what a computer model is" i think

Jev 05-23-2006 10:53 AM

I swear these exam boards are running out of questions. They seem to be re-wording the same question over and over.

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 10:56 AM
I swear these exam boards are running out of questions. They seem to be re-wording the same question over and over.
yeah, its like in the music exams when they say: 'Do you like this music?' there wasnt any of that in this years paper though.

Squirrel 05-23-2006 10:56 AM

lol a GCSE in ICT

what is the world coming to

Jev 05-23-2006 11:02 AM

No but I don't see music qualities of some crap that sounds like a machine gun.

EDIT: to Jp

Squirrel : ICT is actually worth 4 GCSEs now

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 11:05 AM

yeah serialist music sucks balls. some minimalist is ok.
EDIT: When are they going to introduce Death Metal onto the paper? that what i want to know. a bit of Dream Theater wouldnt go amiss either, at least there be lots of stuff to analyse

DT is far too long to go on a test, even an extract and then there'd be complaints about Satanism if DM was introduced.
The serialism piece was alright actually. The Minimalism was good. Philip Glass is great. It was just the experimentalism that was balls.
youre kidding me

Yup. It means a lot of stupid students who get 4 C's in ICT and manage another C by luck will be accepted into the 6th Form.

a lot of teachers feel it's a cheat.

Squirrel 05-23-2006 11:11 AM

that and its a retard course that is worth nothing

jpshortstuff 05-23-2006 11:12 AM

as far as serialism goes the test one wasnt too bad. all the practice ones we did in class were terrible. yes i'll take all 12 notes, put them in a random order and then play it backwards, thats music.

EDIT: 4 GCSEs???what the hell im only getting 1 and i chose it as an option.

Jev 05-23-2006 11:16 AM

To get Serialism right sometimes it can be pretty difficult.

And there a lot of people at my school getting 4 GCSEs for ICT. There were 2 ICT options, one for the 4 GCSEs and one for 1 GCSE.

i suppose. mind you some people at my school did a serialism composition as an easy option. someone turned a tape recorder on, then made and ate a sandwhich. then they wrote out a graphic score and submitted it.
wait thats experimental music isnt it. ah well, its still terrible.

They ate a sandwich and called it music? That's cheating!

I have no idea if my school's a specialist ICT one.

FVG27 05-23-2006 11:24 AM

I get half a GCSE for IT but that's 'cause I did short course.

2muchket! 05-23-2006 12:59 PM

GNVQ ICT which is what FD is referring isn't actually worth 4 GCSE's but is worth that equivalent if you get level 4 I think it is. Its how my school cheats so it doesn't look pathetic in league tables. Its also making GNVQ ICT manditory next year for all yr 9. Which is bollcoks as my cousin is having to now do geogrpahy in her spare time. Oh and this year the geniuses dropped a lesson of English down to three so they could fit in lesson of tutorial. Where we just sit around and talk in our tutor groups.
Crap or what :)

Squirrel 05-23-2006 01:21 PM
Squirrel did you get the Origin?
Yeah, cheers man, it's awesome :)

Adam-J 05-23-2006 02:08 PM

i saw a concert of people playing steve rich pieces was kind of boring but the musicicians were pretty damn good

for those who dont know he's a minimalist composer

Sup another exam tomorrow.

Lord Abortion 05-23-2006 02:58 PM

Whatever they call it...General studies, form time, whatever. It's a complete waste of yours and your teacher's time.

It counts absolutely nothing. Unis seldom accept it and all that crap you do, filling out questionnaires, and if you have a progress file to fill out, it counts for absolutely nothing.

Mexican Bandito 05-23-2006 03:08 PM

eww I just got this feeling in my stomach and then threw up :(

Lord Abortion 05-23-2006 03:10 PM
