prolly get B& for posting something so long but....
This has to be one of the funniest things in a long time. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This is a true story from the WordPerfect Helpline, which was transcribed from a recording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say the Help Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the WordPerfect organization for 'Termination without Cause'. Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee. (Now I know why they record these conversations!): Operator: 'Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?' Caller: 'Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect.' Operator: 'What sort of trouble??' Caller: 'Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words Went away.' Operator: 'Went away?' Caller: 'They disappeared' Operator: 'Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?' Caller: 'Nothing.' Operator: 'Nothing??' Caller: 'It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type.' Operator: 'Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?' Caller: 'How do I tell?' Operator: 'Can you see the 'C: prompt' on the screen?' Caller: 'What's a sea-prompt?' Operator: 'Never mind, can you move your cursor around the screen?' Caller: 'There isn't any cursor; I told you, it won't accept anything I Type.' Operator: 'Does your monitor have a power indicator??' Caller: 'What's a monitor?' Operator: 'It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?' Caller: 'I don't know.' Operator: 'Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that??' Caller: 'Yes, I think so.' Operator: 'Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall. Caller: 'Yes, it is.' Operator: 'When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one? ' Caller: 'No.' Operator: 'Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable.' Caller: 'Okay, here it is.' Operator: 'Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer.' Caller: 'I can't reach.' Operator: 'OK. Well, can you see if it is?' Caller: 'No.' Operator: 'Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?' Caller: 'Well, it's not because I don't have the right angle -- it's because it's dark.' Operator: 'Dark?' Caller: 'Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window.' Operator: 'Well, turn on the office light then.' Caller: 'I can't.' Operator: 'No? Why not?' Caller: 'Because there's a power failure.' Operator: 'A power ... A power failure? Aha. Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff that your computer came in?' Caller: 'Well, yes, I keep them in the closet.' Operator: 'Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from.' Caller: 'Really? Is it that bad?' Operator: 'Yes, I'm afraid it is.' Caller: 'Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?' Operator: 'Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer!' |

they might have cool songs but they sounded so horrible when i saw them that im never giving them a chance. his tone made my ears feel like they were ready to burst and just bleed horrible black braincummatter out onto the floor
i disagree. i think his tone is perfect for the type of metal they play. i think high on fire are ****ing awesome. for who they are. and ve seen them a few times. maybe u just saw em at a bad show. dethklok are awesome also you know who suck nuts? converge. they suck nuts. |
So today my grandmother came over. She and my mother were going to the eye doctor. As she realized she is really too old to drive long distances. I haven't shaved in a few days, and she asked me if I was "going for the jihad look."
I was kind of like... did she say what I think she said? |

Someone who knows lots about music.
What's the song that starts at 7:20? http://vimeo.com/8382230 Edit: Alright, I've worked out that it's called What It Do, by Lil' Flip feat. Mannie Fresh. Next question is who is it remixed by? |
Lod, ignore aes's question and check out my new mix for me!
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=572119 Top song, but for comparison to the previous mix, check the one below it too. |

Right oh. Anything else to add/ Good/bad points?
|
Everything else sounds pretty good tbh. Can't really comment on programmed drums (never used them myself), but the guitar sound is pretty cool. One of the riffs in there was really groovy, had me nodding along with it. I like it when heavy shit gets a bit groovy occasionally.
|
Cheers hombre, you're ace. I've got about 5 minutes of it planned out in my head but could only be bothered to record like 45 seconds so watch for when the full one is done.
|
the drums (especially the toms and the snares to a lesser extent) have a real 80's kind of vibe to me because of the reverb and the mad resonant frequency boost you've got going. i dont really think it fits with the style. some slightly more hi-fi metal sounding drums i think would fit better. kick, however, sounds pretty solid to me. a nice thick thud that you can hear without a clicky top end.
for my toms i usually try to go for something with a really fast decay and not much reverb if any. bass is pretty huge, maybe too huge, as i mainly hear a big round bass tone, and the guitars dont sound that massive. maybe try turning the bass down and guitars up? or distorting the bass tone so it blends with the guitar more? this kind of stuff gets really hard when you tune down that low. overall that clip is pretty cool though, i dig the riffs and the tom rolls. intro is pretty sweet. |
macks i love you. here's a remixed kit sample
http://www.yousendit.com/download/S1VBblRpTk04NVhIRGc9PQ More like that yeah? |
much better imo, but theres still something about the snare i dont like. particularly i think its the attack, personally i like snares with a real cracky attack and then a short decay, then i'll just use reverb if i want them to ring out longer. yours rings a bit longer to the point where it almost sounds pitched, which i'm not a big fan of. not sure if its the sample or if you compressed the attack of the beginning.
this is probably just a personal preference thing though. is this dfh? i think thats what you were using before, but this doesn't sound anything like it, so if so great job making dfh not sound like dfh, and sound like good instead. |

Yeah it's still dkfh ha. I torrented 2.0 but couldn't fathom how to get the kits to work and such so gave up on it. With the snare I'm not sure what I want with it. I'm mainly using bulb's snares as a basis, but more specifically the deeper, more middy sounding ones like on Ow My Feelings or Press Enter, but with that there's this annoying resonance at about 4k or something that gives it a weird sort of tonal sound but when I notch it out it loses all its attack and 'thwack', as it were. Oh there's no post mix on the guitars yet, just direct from the pod, so I'm hoping the bass will gel a bit more when I've done a some tweaking to the guitars. |
the drums still need work lod confirm/deny

oh yes i did |
Sbt, I'd suggest you give sd2 a chance. The turd that is ezdrummer polished, it cannot be.
You'll be surprised by the realism and depth sd2 gives. It's just plain awesome and mostly made of win. |
won league football game today

Oh for fuck's sake.
|
jus use a normal digi cam, but record the audio seperate at the same time in pro tools and cool edit pro..
then edit it in pro tool sor cool edit, mix it what not, put the audio into sony vegas match it up with the cams audio and mix that and thats it rather complicated for something that could be rather simple, but they do sound proper |
How is every single tab of the Selkies sweeps completely fucking wrong?
|
because once people get good enough at guitar to learn by ear or music rather than tabs, they stop writing tabs or caring about people who still use tabs.
|
How is every single tab of the Selkies sweeps completely fucking wrong?
You tried the powertabs? I found a decent one a while back. |
Yeah, tried the powertabs.
Thing is, right, the sweeps themselves are in a triplet rhythm, but every tab or powertab has too many notes in it. I mean, there's a sweep where at the end he slides his little finger up a fret and down again, and when I slow the recording down I can hear that it is the note he slides up to that is ON the beat, but the tabs all have too many notes and cause the sweep to sound ridiculous if you're a player who can actually play in time. Basically, |-19-15----------------------------15-19-20-19-15----------------------15-19-| |-------17----------------------17--------------------17----------------17-------| |----------16----------------16--------------------------16----------16----------| |-------------17----------17--------------------------------17----17-------------| |----------------19-15-19--------------------------------------19----------------| |----------------------------------------------------------------------------| If you count them in groups of threes, with the 'one's being on the beat, it doesn't match. The 20 is supposed to be on the beat, and the last note in that sweep is supposed to be a 'three' because the starting note on the next sweep starts the next bar on 'one', but noooo. You're right max, tabs are all shit. I basically figured out why this one was crap, and then figured the rest out by ear/looking at the vid of him tracking it. |
