I found alot of the live acton parts slightly underwhelming and more hit and miss. Some parts were good (pink in the swimming pool) and some weren't (most of the facist stuff). All the animation is great though.
Edit: Hey You is included in the extras. |
I love how they included "When The Tigers Broke Free" in the movie. That is such an incredible song.
I've got no problem with Nick Mason's drumming. It's not complex or anything, but he gets the job done. I actually really like his drumming on Animals. I think it really gives the album a solid foundation, which might be why it's one of my favourites.
Okay just finished watching the movie. I really enjoyed it, it cleared up a fair few things too. Like from the plane sound I always thought that was a plane crashing and couldnt work out whether Pink's dad was in the airforce or the army and now I know he was army and got a bomb dropped on him.
It gets better the more you watch it, you pick more stuff out every time.
Cool, but does anyone know how to get to the secret buttons? I found I can do it through media player and my DVD drive on the computer but I can't work out how to do it on a DVD player.
What are the secret buttons? This is new to me.
When you click em you just get a sound effect. Do you have the deluxe DVD edition?
I'm not sure. Is it all white bricks on the front and back, with the screaming face in the bottom left on the front?
That might be the Digipak version which im pretty sure is the same DVD disc as what I got anyway.
What do you guys think of the Division Bell? I asked for it for Christmas and got but im not sure what to think. Sometimes i just need some guidance on how to listen
It's not my favorite, but I like it. Very chilled out, relaxing music. I find it really similar to On An Island.
Yeah, the Division Bell's pretty good, but not their best. I like it.
It's far from a pop album, so if you need something to listen out for, try feeling the overall atmosphere the album creates, similar to WYWH.
The opening track Cluster One can sound dull to the passive ear, but if you're patient, it's quite stunning :) there's a certain piont where Rick slowly starts making his way up the piano and all of a sudden there's a dramatic chord change. Then the main riff comes in and we're on our way. Soon comes Nick's drums and the rest is purely satisfying. I think I need a cigarette :smoke: The solos are superb too. |
A friend of mine brought along a copy of one of David Gilmours solo albums on vinyl. I didnt get much of a listen but I really liked it. I don't know which one it was just that it wasnt On An Island.
The main reason i wanted it ws because i had heard some parts of songs and the solos sounded really cool. I figured that there would be a lot of focus on the guitar. I just cant help but find myself dissapointed in the lyrics and even some singing.

Probably his self-titled, that's quite a good album. I made this deduction because About Face sucks pretty hard. I'm not the biggest fan of On An Island either actually, it's a bit too mellow for it's own good and it's rather boring on the whole. |

Uh, yeah... cigarette... Come on people, this is a Pink Floyd thread. |
i found "on an island" kind of cheesy :(
EDIT:
I'm not the biggest fan of On An Island either actually, it's a bit too mellow for it's own good and it's rather boring on the whole.
yup i felt the same way |
On An Island is good background or sleeping music, very relaxing and interesting enough for you to appreciate it. The Division Bell is a bit more "happening", but it still has the same vibe about it.
On An Island was good for me, but never really beyond that. Some of the songs grew a bit (Pocketful of Stones is quite nice) but it's still overall a 7/10.

I would give it an 8.5 or so. The title track has such great guitar playing. |

This. I was very fond of the album, I agree it definatly was a little too slow paced, I would have liked one or two lively songs in there to quicken the pace and add a bit of a mixture. Overall though I like the album alot. "Smile" is awesome, and the backing vocals hypnotize me everytime, the guitar playing in On an Island is fantastic, David was way on form, and alot of the other tracks are good listening. Good stuff. Take a Breath is one song I didn't like, but the rest is very good. |
I quite liked Take a Breath :p
Could've easily been on TDB. |
The only thing I disliked about Take A Breath was the creepy old men chanting: "Take a breath, take a deep breath".
So who played on On An Island? Was it anyone particularly famous?
Rick Wright, Guy Pratt, Graham Nash and David Crosby are the ones I immeadiately recognise.

Creepy old men were the only musicians on the album :p That song is fantastic. I love the whole feel of it. |

Is Guy Pratt the guy that played bass for floyd after Roger left? |
Probably.
I know he's the one who played on Pulse

Yes, he was |
He also toured with David Gilmour :)

Man I was listening to music on album shuffle last night, and one of my Floyd bootlegs came on. I just remember hearing some awesome versions of DSOTM songs, and now I have to figure out which one's I was listening to. It sounded so good, and it went with my dream perfectly.
I hate it when I listen to my music on shuffle and some short song from The Wall comes on like Bring The Boys Back Home or Stop.
I never use shuffle.
^Same, I prefer to listen to albums as a whole.

 I made it a point to say that cause I'm the same way. Gotta listen to albums all the way through, they're designed to be that way. |
Ah ok, missed that one. So how many bootlegs do you have?
6 at the moment. I used to have a few more but I got rid of them to free up space.
After checking "last played" I realized I was listening to Echoes In The Garden. It's got DSOTM in its entirety, Echoes, both SOYCD parts, Have A Cigar, and Dogs and Sheep before they were named that. |
