I'm gutted that I missed this one. I have the Live at Stockholm DVD and they look like such a great live band. How Eric sings that good while smoking constantly is beyond me.

People who don't like Trouble are most definitely not metal.
Haha yeah It's wierd that he smokes so much and his voice sounds almost as good as it did 20 years ago. He must've gone through about 20 during the show!

Bartender 06-03-2007 12:35 PM
ive been enjoying them quite a bit lately. good choice.
Yeah, I like them. They do very good instrumentals, which was something I was surprised at. I've only got Second Season so far, though.

Txus 06-03-2007 01:42 PM

October Tide are soooooooooooo good \m/

Rain Without End is one of the best Death/Doom albums I've heard lately.

Bartender 06-03-2007 01:55 PM

I just got a few albums in the post, most of them doom-related. Listened to a couple; Burning Saviours were great, groovy 'retro' heavy rock. Centurion's Ghost are, so far, great as well. They remind me a bit of Thee Plague of Gentlemen, I think. Excellent name, anyway. EDIT: Actually, just got to the end of "Misery Serenade" - they remind me a lot of ..Gentlemen.

Of the rest, I'm expecting one to be droning, maybe funeral-like doom, one to be Sabbath-esque proper doom, and one to not be doom at all. I hope I'm right; suppose I'll be letting you know.

Nepenthe 06-03-2007 02:00 PM

October Tide's music could suck and I would still listen to it simply to hear Renske's harsh vocals again. Fortunately, the music is excellent.

Txus 06-03-2007 03:06 PM
Centurion's Ghost are, so far, great as well. They remind me a bit of Thee Plague of Gentlemen
I need to check Centurion's Ghost out then, I loooove Thee Plague of Gentlemen.

And Renske's is a great vocalist, I'm downloading the other October Tide album as we speak.

Jondur 06-04-2007 03:50 AM

If you like TPOG then you must check out SerpentCult who are basically TPOG with a female singer. Great stuff.

Bartender - who is the other one you're expecting to be Sabbath type doom?

Bartender 06-04-2007 04:13 AM

Pale Divine.

I'm still working towards getting albums by Saint Vitus and Trouble and so on, but they all seem to be out of print, limited availability and so on.

I did find some kind of reissue of an album or two by a band called Mercy, which claimed to be along the same lines, but I've never heard of them. Are they any good, do you know?

ATM 06-04-2007 07:10 AM

Anyone heard the new Candlemass yet?

Txus 06-04-2007 08:01 AM

Yeah, the new Candlemass is great.

I was listening to Warning last night, great ****.

Iron Bars 06-04-2007 08:06 AM

The new Candlemass is great, but Warning is better.

Txus 06-04-2007 08:08 AM

I prefer Candlemass, but I'm a fanboy so....yeah :)

And Trouble are SOOOOOO GOOD. I'm getting their discography today.

pate 06-04-2007 09:59 AM

Hell yeah Trouble is amazing.

I like the new Candlemass, but Demonia 6 is a horrid song.

I'm a Rob Lowe fanboy, as well as a Candlemass fanboy, so the match worked well.

When I saw Centurion's Ghost I wasn't that impressed, althought I thought their album was pretty good.

Thee Plague of Gentleman are quality.

Kage 06-04-2007 03:31 PM

You guys into Om?

pate 06-04-2007 07:10 PM

I like them a little.

Nepenthe 06-04-2007 07:22 PM

I love them.

Kage 06-04-2007 07:34 PM

Their album Variations on a Theme kills.

Txus 06-04-2007 08:13 PM
You guys into Om?
I only have Conference of the Birds and their split with Six Organce of Admittance, but yeah, they are great.

Nepenthe 06-04-2007 08:20 PM

Why you would get that split and not Variations On A Theme is beyond me. Variations is the album they are known for. AKA get it now.

pate 06-04-2007 11:55 PM

I just discovered Bitterdusk. They are ****ing amazing.

Iron Bars 06-05-2007 02:02 AM
Why you would get that split and not Variations On A Theme is beyond me. Variations is the album they are known for. AKA get it now.
I think Conference with Birds is alot better though. Haven't heard the split.
Pale Divine.
Great band.
I'm still working towards getting albums by Saint Vitus and Trouble and so on, but they all seem to be out of print, limited availability and so on.
Should be fairly easy to find Trouble albums as the first three were reissued recently. Similarly Southern Lord reissued St Vitus "V" so that shouldn't be too hard to find.

the others may prove more problematic. If you really want them and are willing to pay - I can find them for you.
I did find some kind of reissue of an album or two by a band called Mercy, which claimed to be along the same lines, but I've never heard of them. Are they any good, do you know?
Which album? Messiah Marcolin used to sing for them.

Bartender 06-05-2007 05:18 AM

Witchburner - always an attractive kind of name - and Mercy together, apparently.

I'll try and look harder for the reissues then, to be fair my searching so far has been reasonably minimal. I'm usually willing to pay quite a bit for stuff if I want it though, yeah.

Hell yes.
I love that album.

I will listen to it afterthis album finishes. :D

NemesisDivina 06-07-2007 12:53 PM

I've been 100% addicted to Ahab's The Call of the Wretched Sea lately. The shirt I ordered got shipped out yesterday :thumb: .

the2stranger 06-07-2007 02:05 PM

Awesome, I also want a shirt.
/looks around the internet.

I really hope to catch them live sometime.
They had my favorite album of 2006. :)

NemesisDivina 06-07-2007 02:12 PM

http://www.napalmrecords.com/

go to their store.

the2stranger 06-07-2007 02:18 PM

Cool beans,
Thanks man.
I will order a shirt once I'm back in the Netherlands. :D

NemesisDivina 06-07-2007 02:24 PM

no problem. They're limited to 500 though, so you might wanna get one quick

the2stranger 06-07-2007 03:04 PM

Alright.
Hmm, then I indeed think it would be better to be quick.
Lemme check.

Bartender 06-07-2007 04:10 PM

Does anybody like Ea - Ea Taesse? It's probably my least favourite so far of the albums I've bought in the last couple of weeks, but then from my point of view it was a bit of a risk buying it anyway, and I've quite liked it the couple of times I've put it on.

the2stranger 06-07-2007 04:13 PM

I like it quite a lot, although some buzzing in the production makes it lose some atmospehere at times.
I think it'squite good Funeral doom.
The use of synths is quite well, even though you can draw some clear paralels to other fd bands.

Bartender 06-07-2007 04:32 PM

I just got it because of the dead language thing - I'm shallow like that - but now that I have it, I do like it, yeah.

the2stranger 06-07-2007 04:33 PM

This dead language thing is really just media promotion.
But the music can stand on its own quite well.
Not bad and I will certainly be keeping an eye open for this guy in the future.

RetiredAt21 06-07-2007 05:20 PM

Dead language?

Bartender 06-07-2007 05:30 PM

The name, titles, lyrics and so on are all "based on the sacral texts of ancient civilizations.. recreated according to the results of archeological research". Don't think they give any idea anywhere as to what language it is, which doesn't really seem to matter anyway since as far as I heard the vocals, apart from copious amounts of choir, were pretty sparse.

RetiredAt21 06-07-2007 05:32 PM

Oh. Sounds...interesting, I guess.

pate 06-07-2007 07:35 PM

I recently discovered Bitterdusk and Spiritus Mortis. Bitterdusk is ****ing amazing, and SM is pretty darn good.

Yay for random finds.

the2stranger 06-08-2007 02:25 AM

Bitterdusk sounds very interesting Pate.
I will look in to them.
