My friend's step-dad said he saw PF live. He said during the entire concert they were behind a wall, until the end, where they broke it down, and it was over.
I'd personally think that would suck. |

Good Point |

I'd personally think that would suck.
Yeah, that would've sucked so much ass. You go to see the band play and you get treated with a huge wall instead. That's way Gilmour plays on top of the wall, and somethings are projected to the wall. If not, the tour would've been a flopp... Unless you only care about paying for the music. |
(Sorry for the double post, but I just read this)
"The supporting tour featured an almost life size model spitfire airplane which 'flew' across the top of the arena and crashed into fllames on the stage during the climax of On the Run" ^ That would've been awesome to watch!! |

I just saw Gilmour playing on top of the wall. It was awesome. I literally got goosebumps when I first saw it. Of course, it wasn't the whole thing, but still it was exciting to finally see it.

Where is your usertitle from?! I once lay on the floor quite drunk and listened to Dark Side of the Moon (not my favorite choice of PF albums) with 2 friends in complete darkness, was very odd. I think I may have been falling in and out of sleep, was fun. |
Is syd really dead? or did he just disapear after he went crazy?
|
Nope.
|
Is syd really dead?
Nope, he is still alive. |
Is he mental? like does he still know whats going on or?...
|
Nope, he is still alive.
Oh man good, that scared me because I thought somthing might have happened to him. |
He's insane.
|
He's awesome.

how did he go crazy? i mean i know it was the drugs but did he jus suddenly snap one day?
|
Is he mental? like does he still know whats going on or?...
Syd is still alive, but he now a total recluse (sp?) he dosent leave his house. his family buys his food, ect, and he spends time painting and stuff. |
how did he go crazy? i mean i know it was the drugs but did he jus suddenly snap one day?
LSD is known to bring out metal illness. He already had it, but the LSD brought it out much sooner and more powerfully. |
i downloaded those songs and they wont play.
They are WMA, so play them through Windows Media Player |
Well, people also think it all started when his father died when he was young and that he already was harboring problems in his head. The LSD played a bit role, specially since he basically went through a time when all he basically consume was LSD.
|
So does he still have all his creative ability? does he still do drugs? where might i find some good drugs?
|
He probably does, I haven't heard his solo stuff. He probably doesn't still do drugs or else he'd get worse. The internet.

His solo stuff is ok, I mean some isn't good, but there are some great songs he does |
He doesn't do anything now. They say that everything that reminds of him of his past depresses him for weeks. On his mother's deathbed, she asked that none of the PF members have any contact with him. They say that everytime he paints something new, when he finishes, he burns them. He has diabetes too, and he usually neglects his insuline(sp?) shots.
Oh yea, and they know that he lives in Cambridge, but people usually don't recognize him since every old guy there has the same looks. He is the most interesting member of PF... at least for me. |
He's a very interesting guy. But yeah, a total recluse. Although, according to the biography I read, as of 1989 he was getting better, and thinking about maybe even getting a day job. But, that was 16 years ago, so I have no clue what came of it.
|
Isn't he a gardener?
|
Who knows? There's a lot of rumours about him going around, but no one knows for sure. They say that he doesn't even want to play guitar anymore.
Though his nephew said that he was writting a book about the history of art. (Oh, by the way, great avatar Shazzam) |
syd is wicked, i know this is kinda mean but im glad he went insane, becasue then the world got to hear gilmour.
If he didnt go nuts, i think none of us would know who pink floyd is today, |
According to Gilmour, he could've made it big with Jokers Wild as well. Although I think I prefer Pink Floyd as it stood to Jokers Wild.
Off topic, but could someone send me an album by The Mars Volta? Or maybe multiple albums? I would love you forever. I have a lot to send back. My screenname is DeusExMachina107. |
What if Pink Floyd would've have its 5-man lineup? Syd on guitar, Dave on lead?
Would they have been better or worse? What do you guys think? |
Worse. If Syd stayed in the band, he would've been the primary song writer. The only reason the others wrote was because they tried to keep going without Syd. They completely relied on him when he was in the band, and tried to copy him for quite awhile after he left. And, personally, Waters + Gilmour > Barrett.
|
But many people think that if Syd would've kept going he would've been the greatest songwritter. They had a lot of fate with him, plus, Set The Controls For the Heart of the Sun was written while Syd was still in the band, though not Waters best work lyrically, it showed that he had the potential if he kept going. It would've been another Harrison thing with Waters. Maybe Syd would've dominated at first, but Rog might have kept writting and evolving until what we all know and love about him.
Of course, if Syd wouldn't have gone, well, mad, things like SOYCD and WYWH might not have ever existed... and the world would have been a sadder one. |

Did you read Saucerful of Secrets, the Pink Floyd Odyssey? That's what I read. It said something like "One day he hopes to be well enough to take the bus to and from an office" I highly doubt that's gonna happen though. Syd Barrett IMO is one of the most interesting people ever. |

Waters and Gilmour worked better together I think, but its hard to compare the Barrett years to the post Barrett years because they are so different. |

I agree, it adds so much mystery to Pink Floyd. I mean here you have this brillent psychedelic artist, who just one day drops off the face of the earth. |
I had a half an hour discussion about Syd Barret with my English teacher the other day.
It was awesome  |
