I actually liked God Hates Us All. It wasn't absolutely fantastic or anything, but I never understood why the fans ripped it apart so.

God Hates Us All was poor for slayer standards but was still better than alot other stuff released at the time actually i think Diabolus In Musica was worse

RCA 07-21-2004 02:13 PM

Yea, DiM was pretty bad...

SLAYER Frontman TOM ARAYA: 'Live Peacefully And Love One Another'

SLAYER Frontman TOM ARAYA: 'Live Peacefully And Love One Another'

SLAYER frontman Tom Araya recently spoke to the Denver Westword about his band, his voice, prison letters, child rearing, God, world music and exploiting Satan for fun and profit. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

Westword: Do you still get letters from incarcerated people?

Tom Araya: "Yeah. They're pretty out there. It's like 'Man, dude, maybe it's a good thing you are in jail.' They're genuine letters. I know that they're kids. It's great that SLAYER inspires them to carry on. There's hope. Which is really odd to be saying. People say that listening to SLAYER has helped them along in crucial parts of their life. I've gotten letters from Marines and different branches of the military. They're pretty trippy, too. Actual accounts of them in Iraq listening to SLAYER while they're doing what they do. I'd like to think that it's the music giving them aggression and strength. It kind of recharges your batteries. It's like some of these athletes that we've met listen to SLAYER to get 'em pumped up. Mostly in hockey and football."

Westword: What's the biggest misconception people have about SLAYER?

Tom Araya: "The obvious one: the Satan stuff. I'm not here to fault anybody. And I hate to say this, but Christ came and taught us about love. About doing unto others. That was his preach: Accept each other for who we are. Live peacefully, and love one another. Period."

Westword: Do you believe in God?

Tom Araya: "I believe in a supreme being, yeah. But He's an all-loving God."

Westword: Can you see how people might miss that message in your music?

Tom Araya: "Yeah. And I don't fault them for that. Songs are open for interpretation, you know? It's like we can both be looking at a flower, but the information that we absorb is different about that flower."

Westword: But SLAYER is not about spreading the love.

Tom Araya: "SLAYER's about what we enjoy. Putting together some really cool songs. Like on 'God Hates Us All'. There's some really good stuff in there lyrically that just blows my mind. That's something that intrigues me about what I write. The serial-killer stuff is like, 'What thought process led you to this?' It's like everyone has been asking for a sign. The Twin Towers were a ****in' sign! Actually [September 11, 2001] was the release date of 'God Hates Us All'. We did a midnight signing at a Tower Records. They had over 3,000 kids there. We were supposed to fly out the next day and start a tour in Europe."

Tower Records eh?...

Toozey 07-22-2004 05:49 AM

According to the GHUA poster on my wall it was 10th September 2001

DimebagDarrell 07-22-2004 06:05 AM

Well i was just simple cutting and pasting lol thats what it said

edit: Actually now i think about it, it was 10th september it came out

Toozey 07-22-2004 06:09 AM

Stupid tom.

JMetallica 07-22-2004 06:23 AM

Exploiting satan and senseless destruction... :(

Jamie FT 07-22-2004 06:43 AM

I've just taken this from www.metalhammer.co.uk

22 Jul 2004 Slayer are now looking to begin recording their as yet untitled new studio album in January.

Chimaira guitarist Matt DeVries told Metal Hammer.co.uk: "I've heard some demos and it's awesome dude! It's a mixture of all of Slayer. I don't know how to describe it properly, but if I had to it's a mix of 'Reign In Blood' and 'God Hates Us All'. It's killer!"

Slayer axe man Kerry King dismissed DeVries interpritation in an interview with Hammer saying: "If we crossed 'God Hates Us All' and 'Reign In Blood' it's be fast, balls out chaos! [laughs] Well if you ask me that same question I'd have said 'God Hates Us All' and 'Seasons In The Abyss'. The new record has got some heavy stuff on it with guitars tuned to B, and Jeff's got one with another clean intro which we haven't done since... ****, '213'."

manuscriptreplica 07-22-2004 06:48 AM

Drop B tuning??? Slayer's gone Mallcore!!!

Chimeiera are coming to my hometown soon. Not that I will see them or anything.

Kreator 07-22-2004 07:13 AM

now i'm not really looking forward hearing the new slayer album...

Toozey 07-22-2004 08:09 AM

He didn't say Drop B, B tuning, they tuned to B on GHUA aswell.

manuscriptreplica 07-22-2004 08:22 AM

What is the difference?

GraveRobbersINC 07-22-2004 08:26 AM

I don't think it's detuning, mabye I'm wrong
In any case, At War With Satan or Welcome to Hell. I need new Venom...right now.

Toozey 07-22-2004 08:30 AM
What is the difference?
B tuning = BEADGB or BEADF#B
Drop B = B, F#, B, E, G#, C#

manuscriptreplica 07-22-2004 08:31 AM

Welcome to Hell! The original classic! Far better than Black Metal, I think.

GraveRobbersINC 07-22-2004 08:35 AM

 Never, Black Metal is the best album of all ****ing time!

Corporal Compendia 07-22-2004 09:41 AM

At War With Satan > Black Metal > Welcome to Hell by miniscule amounts for each...

Though all 3 own really.

GraveRobbersINC 07-22-2004 09:45 AM

Well At War With Satan is about a 2 mile bike ride. Welcome to Hell could take all day to get to.

AParanoidIronMan 07-22-2004 09:47 AM

black metal > welcome to hell > at war with satan

although this would be reveresed if you took only 1 song from each albums and stood them next to each other

at war with satan > in league with satan > buried alive

manuscriptreplica 07-22-2004 09:48 AM

Heh... Welcome to Hell is more thrashy, whilst Black Metal and At War With Satan are just in a genre of their own. Black Metal is cool, groovy metal, which is very enjoyable, but I reckon Welcome to Hell owns it severly.

DimebagDarrell 07-22-2004 10:01 AM

Black Metal then Welcome to Hell for me i havent heard enought at war or in league iwth satan too say how much i like them

RCA 07-22-2004 01:46 PM

I'd go with At War With Satan, since that'd be the easier choice for you, but definately look into getting Welcome To Hell.

RCA 07-22-2004 11:00 PM

*takes thread and throws it to the first page*

JMetallica 07-23-2004 12:40 AM

Black metal is ownage. The song is venom's best. :D

RCA 07-23-2004 12:55 AM

^^^ Agreed.

RCA 07-23-2004 01:08 AM

Sorry for the double post, but have any of you heard of Deathchain? They're a thrash/death band from Finland. Check em out! www.deathchain.com

GraveRobbersINC 07-23-2004 06:10 AM

Deathchain is pretty good, their lead singer reminds me of the guy from Zyklon.

DimebagDarrell 07-23-2004 02:38 PM

Anyone heard any O.L.D.? if so any good?

Ratmevilempire 07-23-2004 03:55 PM

God****,i leave for like a week and we have like 5 random newbies,no offense but im just surprised.Anyways,I saw Alice Cooper last night for $10 it was pretty awesome. He really is a legend and he still does the whole stage show wioth the snake and the dummy, its campy but good fun at the same time.Foghat (the guys with the song slow ride, and the one that goes make love to you or somethin like that) opened and I met them and got them to sign my ticket.Anyways it was all good till i missed the train so me and my friend ate ice cream till the next one got there than we went to dennys for a 2 am club sandwich.Just thought you might wanna know, that makes me wonder, does any one else here like alice cooper?

Griffin_Page 07-23-2004 04:30 PM

Alice Cooper kicks ***.. great riffs, awesome lyrics, and the original bad guy in heavy music.
