because once you do, you'll never be able to see yourself, other people, or the world the same way
interestingly enough, this has made me curious..do explain

perriwinkle 12-22-2006 07:35 AM

here's the stuff on the back:

The Tipping Point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flue, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed best-seller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

i'm reading this because i read his other book, Blink, and needed more.

they both really go into psychology and sociology, but i think Blink is focused more on them than The Tipping Point. so if you think you would be more interested in reading about your subconscious and about human psychology than the tipping point phenomenon, then get Blink.

AlienEater 12-22-2006 07:38 AM

OK it sounds fairly interesting I may read it if I get the chance

class 12-22-2006 07:43 AM

Maybe I'll check it out..

This is a demo version of it ripped off Brittish radio. It's not finished though apparantly.

StaticSynth 12-22-2006 12:19 PM

Blink is quite an enjoyable book.

Rabbi 12-22-2006 12:49 PM

Hahahaha. I got out Wendsay. For some reason the Head-Master thought it would be a good idea for us to watch the pre-schoolers sing. One got nervous and puked and fainted. :/

has anyone ever heard of this book called The Aesthetics of Rock ?

I picked it up in the free bin of my school's bookstore (after everyone has sold back their old textbooks and some of them arent being used again). I'm pretty sure the book is just a huge joke, like "hmm how prententious can I possibly sound while describing the impact that Herman's Hermits made on the popular music scene?" it was written in like 1970 and name drops obscure musicians AND philosophers. a double dose of boredom and i sincerely hope it's just tongue-in-cheek.

bleep_bloop 12-22-2006 01:26 PM

never heard of it

Electronic Wolf 12-22-2006 01:36 PM

It doesn't sound that cool.

bleep_bloop 12-22-2006 01:38 PM

nope

Electronic Wolf 12-22-2006 01:41 PM

You know what else is lame? Chris Funk's "solo" on The Colbert Report the other day. I finally got around to watching it and it was awful.

bleep_bloop 12-22-2006 01:46 PM

it was lame how colbert got out of it.

Electronic Wolf 12-22-2006 01:47 PM

Yeah, I wanted him to play.

Rabbi 12-22-2006 03:17 PM

Colbert's a pussy.
You know what else is lame? Chris Funk's "solo" on The Colbert Report the other day. I finally got around to watching it and it was awful.
yeah man i was like "oh hey look a guitarist is gonna solo now" and then after about ten seconds i was like "oh...he sucks :/"

then i proceeded to pwn him with my guitar skills

oh and it would've been gay if colbert played because he obviously would've sucked and it wouldn't have been funny or entertaining at all.

Rabbi 12-22-2006 03:35 PM

I was hoping that he wasn't lying when he said he could play but thats wishful thinking.

class 12-22-2006 05:18 PM
I thought Colbert's reasoning for a 5 neck guitar was hilarious...i still laugh when i think about it
Is it even possible to use the bottom two necks? They seem almost impossible to reach unless you have super long arms or something.

YDload 12-22-2006 08:09 PM
Is that by Richard Meltzer or something?
