The bassline is so f'ucking good in that song. The Pot has a lot of those "cool lyric to music moments" which is why I really dig it.
|
I just hope he actually gets better live. He sounds good for the most part, but he butchers reflections worse than imagine.
EDIT to shadius: The vocals in the beginning remind me of the garbage on the last APC release I like this song better though, because the music doesn't suck.
I dont care too much about the vocals in this song, for the same reason that you. The bassline is very nice. |
Ugh I like the vocals... Alot... I just said they remind me of APC.
|
IMO, The new album is good, but it feels as if they didn't give it their all.
|

hah, sorry about it, i was reading another post while writing that post. |
I like the song. It reminds me of APC too much though.
After listening a few times, I think the album is all together "good". But I think Aenima is still the album to beat.
Aemina is decent. Undertow had a few good songs. They are very inconsistant though. |

I agree about Undertow, but out of the 9 actual songs on Ænima I adore 7 of them, and Hooker with a Penis is awesome when I'm in the mood. jimmy never sunk in for me though, I know there's a lot of jimmy fans on here, but I always see that track as being actual filler. |
There not just listen to "The Pot" :p
I thought The Pot sounded a lot like their older material minus the opening vocals. Undertow was my favorite Album IMO. I'm glad Tool is starting to lean back to more of their aggressive roots, yet still retaining some of the Lateralus sound in some of their songs. |
Has anyone started a review yet?
I was bored earlier today and started one...I don't think i'll finish it though. It doesn't feel right atall and i can't see myself being happy with getting my opinions across without becoming monotonous and almost listing my points... *Spoilers* (though i feel the tag rather unneccessary, if you haven't spotted a review coming from the first part of my post you deserve to be punished:p)
Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. This band brings in the same kind of opinions, there seems to be no middle ground with TOOL. Their fan base has been drooling with anticipation since the band entered the studio to record the 4th album entitled '10,00 days' almost a year and a half ago. It's been 5 years since the band last released a record (2001's Lateralus) and the hype has grown around the record with information leaking through about a strong meshuggah influencee and a 18 minute epic song. The big question is; does the album live up to the expectation? Well you couldn't ask for a better start than Vicarious. The first single off the album starts timidily with a riff that almost reminds us of the patient, but not quite. The song then jumps in to full flow with a fast paced beat in 5/4, a strange time signature that feels offset. The song is a 7 minute romp, which bareley lets you catch your breath. Maynards vocals are somewhat back in the mix letting the music take your concentration, the mix feels heavy and as the song is brought to a close by Jones' and Careys' pummeling riff. Jambi doesn't give you time to reflect, Jones' chugging guitar comes in with a strange almost tribal riff which i find quite irritating. Maynards vocals are quite laid back, and also quite high in the mix. The vocals added with the slow bassline almost give the song a texture not quite tool (something more like MJK's side project A Perfect Circle?). The song keeps the same feel throughout, with jones keeping that same chigging riff going throughout. It's a strange song and one I think i'd enjoy alot more without Jones' riff. Wings for marie starts slowly with a strange revolving sound moving through the speakers. It's a laid back song which builds to a climax which is nice, but shortlived. The song is pretty insignificant and forgettable but may serve some as a good introduction for the next song. Personally i feel the intro for this song is more than long enough and wings pt1 was hardly needed. 10,000 days (wings pt 2) is one of the hardest hitting tracks on the album. The mix feels heavy reminding fans of push!t as the bass rumbles on through the tack giving it some momentum. It's full of emotion as the song builds to the climactic line '10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you're coming home'. The song then winds down bringing this 17 minute epic wings series to a close.
Yeah a track by track :-/ |
Isn't 10,000 days their 6th album though?
|
Isn't 10,000 days their 6th album though?
why? Salival wasn't new music. |
Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days
I'd class Opiate as an EP...and Salival as a DVD boxset. So yeah 6th release, 4th LP |

Ooh...sorry MY BAD! I was just wondering though, wasn't trying to rag on the review at all...just a question. |
It was put up to be ragged. And it was an innocent enough question, but that was one part of the review that was correct :p

And Lateralus blows them all away. :D |
Meh, I don't really agree with that.
|
Undertow doesn't compare IMO, and Aenima does, but I think that album lacks a bit of the perfection that Lateralus has.
|
And Lateralus blows them all away. :D
It doesn't. Scism is sorta catchy. The Grudge is alright. It's mostly "ehh" though. |
Aenima > Lateralus > 10,000 Days > Undertow
Aenima has the perfect mix...it starts out with the standard rock songs..stinkfist, H etc...then moves on to the more progressive songs Aenima, Push!t and third eye. Lateralus follows the same kind of pattern, but i find i get lost in D/R/T quite a bit so lateralus ranks just below Aenima... |

I thought about doing a review if no one else was going to/wanted to. Clearvision, are you going to finish that review and put it up?

So, we got to the Ticketmaster location about an hour early for tickets to the Chicago show, and when we got there, there was only one guy in front of us, sans a few people buying Bon Jovi tickets. We struck up conversation with this guy, and found out that he ran some beef jerky business with his son. He seemed like a pretty nice guy, a little redneckish, but nonetheless. He even gave us a free bag of beef jerky. :)
We asked if he was also here for Tool tickets, as he didn't really seem like the type. He said that he was buying two tickets for his cousins, and he didn't really know who Tool was. Well, alright. As time passed, another group of guys showed up, they said that they needed nine tickets between all of them. As it got closer to the sale time, about five minutes, the cashier guy started asking the line how many tickets they needed, so that he could just process them all, and we would all pay later, giving everyone good seats. The cashier asked the guy in front of us how many tickets he need, and he replied with "However many you can get me" as he pulled out a wad of cash full of $100 bills. WTF!?!? I could not believe it. They cashier picked out 20 tickets for the guy, then went on to ours. We were lucky to scrounge out all of the tickets that we needed, but the group behind us was not so lucky. They had sold out by then. We seriously contemplated waiting for the guy afterwards and beating the shit out of him. |
Man, there are some real jacka'sses out there. Those kind of f'ucks really piss me off, along with those who only buy these tickets to sell them on ebay taking away from the real Tool fans who are genuinely interested in seeing them.
|
Lateralus is great. Drumming on that > all
|

That's exactly what he was doing, selling them on Ebay. He was like a professional too... he definitely new what he was doing. |

But really, it's all speculative though...I'll agree Undertow doesn't have the whole spirtuality feel that Lateralus has. Personally, I like the more aggressive side of Tool. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Lateralus a lot, I personally liked it more Aenima, but I think Undertow has some amazing songs on it. My favorite songs by Tool off of Undertow are 4 Degrees, Intolerance, Undertow and Sober. Personally, I love the guitar/drum work on Undertow (the song). I thought it went well with conjuction of the meaning of the word undertow. The smashing guitar/drum riffs well represented (in my mind at least) a crashing, wild river/water. Personally, 10,000 days is by far my favorite CD...it blows Lateralus out of the water. |

Im not paying more than 50 for Tool. I have seen em 3 times so far, all of the shows were 35 bucks. That is just crazy. |

I may do. I don't really think it's good enough to be posted though. I hope someone does a real good job. Bartenders lateralus was pretty nice... ANyone think they'll return to the UK? |
